Doherty brothers in field for first event
of 2008 Celtic Pro Tour

The Celtic Pro Tour is expecting a strong field for its first event of 2008 - the 36-hole Pembrokeshire Open on April 1 and 2 at Tenby. Scottish brothers Jack and Paul Doherty have already entered, as has the tour’s 2006 order of merit winner Alex Smith (Pyle and Kenfig) and former Wales amateur international Cennydd Mills.
“We’ve been heartened to hear that the former Southerndown greenkeeper Llewellyn Matthews is also joining the tour, and is hopeful of entering the first event,” said tour director Rhydian Thomas.
“Although he’s enjoyed a fantastic amateur career, professional competition is very different, and we hope that the tour can help in some way to shape his future, as well as all the other golfers.”
The field for the Pembrokeshire Open at Tenby, Wales’ oldest club, is limited to 48 and entry is taken on a first-come-first-served basis.
Entry for this event is £149 for professionals who are tour members, with the winner pocketing £2,000. The prize fund will be over £5,100 if 40 professionals sign up to play, with the top 10 in the field winning money. The fund will be reduced on a pro rata basis, depending on numbers entering.
Non-members wishing to enter the event will have to pay a temporary membership fee of £65 on top of their entry fee.
There will be a limited number of spaces for amateur golfers with entry priced at £99 with no membership fee required. The leading amateur will win a voucher.
Annual membership is also still available at £175 for new members and £149 for previous members.
Professionals interested in entering the Pembrokeshire Open or in joining the tour, should contact the Celtic Pro Tour on 07861 686568, or register online at http://www.celticpro.com/.
