Martin Laird's last-round nightmare at La Quinta, California
GREAT DANE HANSEN LEADS NON-AMERICANS
AMONG US PGA TOUR SCHOOL GRADUATES
Anders Hansen from Denmark was the leading non-American among the 40 players with six-round totals of eight-under-par 424 and better who came through to the harrowing experience of the US PGA Tour Final Qualifying School to win players’ cards for next season.
Hansen's financial reward for the performance was a cheque for $27,500 - but worth far more was the key to the door of the richest professional circuit in the world.
They did not include former Scottish youths champion Martin Laird who stumbled badly on the last day. Scroll down for the details of his final round.
Alex Cejka from Germany finished 18th in the European Tour Final Q School at San Roque and joint 20th at La Quinta, California.
“It’s been a hard month for me, playing in two Qualifying Schools,” said Alex. “I just want to go away and throw up now!”
The best story of the final day was probably that of South African Jaco Van Zyl who shot a sixth-round 64, including birdies at three of the last four holes, to squeeze in right on the limit mark of 424.
The winner with 23-under-par 409 was George McNeill, a former Florida University player who spent most of last year as a club professional. His winner's cheque amounted to $50,000.
Nolan and Laird each received consolation cheques for $5,000.
