FETCHES £1350 AT POST-DINNER AUCTION

Graham Gordon, a long-time member at Newmachar Golf Club and now representing it on the tournament circuits of the world, flew off to the Far East today,
After campaigning successfully on the EuroPro Tour, the 2003 Scottish amateur champion and Walker Cup player is now going to bid for a player's card on the Asian Tour. The first stage of that qualifying process takes place at Pattana Golf & Sports Resort in Thailand from December 6 to 9.
Only 45 players from Stage One will will go forward to the Final Q School at Panttana and Emerald Golf Club from December 13 to 16. The top 40 and ties after that will earn playing privileges on the Asian Tour.
It takes money to go to the Far East and live there for possibly the next three weeks or so .. and that's what last night's fund-raising dinner, organised by Graham Gordon's dad, was all about.
At the post-dinner auction, the top item was a framed and signed montage of pictures of Tiger Woods which was bought by an un-named guest for £1,350.
Harry Bannerman was an entertaining guest speaker. The 1971 Ryder Cup player, now a coach at Aspire Golf Centre, Ardoe recalled various memories from his own career as a tournament player and how he too was funded by Aberdeen businessmen - Hugh McDermott, Bobby Morrison and Jack Hall - at the start of his professional career.
Compere, master of ceremonies and auctioneer for the night was football referee Martin Johnston.
Also at the top table of guests was Steve Molloy of SWM Golf Management, the man who handles Graham Gordon's affairs. Steve is putting together a TeamScotland of three to four young tour professionals. Graham is the first.
