WORLD HICKORY OPEN PRO-AM
THE SOLUTION TO SLOW PLAY -
USE ONLY FIVE HICKORY CLUBS!
There has never been a pro-am quite like it on the Tartan Tour before – the World Hickory Open pro-am at Craigielaw.
Gillian Kirkwood reports:
“There were two shotgun starts, at 8:30 and 1:30. I played in the morning, husband David in the afternoon.
"Everyone was limited to five Hickory clubs, and most dressed up in period costume for the event.
"With so few clubs in the bag, there was none of the time-consuming club selection that normally happens, and everyone carried their bag which speeded up play as well.
“Both fields got round in about 3hr 30min for a four-ball – modern golfers take note!
"I played with a very nice young pro called Fraser McLaughlan from Bothwell Castle and David played with Bernard Gallacher!
"Lionel Freedman (pictured right) organised the event which was excellent! Speakers at the dinner were Donald Steel and David Purdie.”
The World Hickory Open will be played over one round today (Friday) and we hope to have the scores from that on display during the evening.
