ST ANDREWS LINKS APPOINTMENT

EWEN BOWMAN MOVES UP FROM TURNBERRY TO BE
CLUBHOUSE OPERATIONS
MANAGER

Ewen Bowman, the golf sales manager at the Westin Turnberry Resort, has been appointed clubhouse operations manager at St Andrews Links.

He will take up the newly created post on Monday, October 9 and will have responsibility for running both the Links and Eden clubhouses at St Andrews.

With more than 200,000 rounds a year played over the six St Andrews Links courses both clubhouses are extremely busy and offer a full range of services to both local and visiting golfers including restaurants and changing facilities.

Ewen, who hails from Kilmacolm, joins the Links Trust ahead of a particularly busy spell which will see the staging of the Women’s British Open, the Curtis Cup and The Open on the Old Course in the next four years.

“I am very much looking forward to the challenge of managing such a busy and dynamic clubhouse operation as the Links Trust’s,” he said. “I have been fortunate to work at such a wonderful location as Turnberry and I am sure that will stand me in very good stead for moving to the Home of Golf.

“Both the Links and Eden clubhouses attract a lot of customers and, of course, a new clubhouse will be created at Course No 7 when it opens in two years’ time. It is going to be a very busy period for the Links in the next few years with the opening of the new course and several major tournaments taking place. I will be working hard to ensure we continue to deliver the highest standards of service in our clubhouses in the years ahead.”

Ewen, pictured above right, has spent 17 years at Turnberry, one of the world’s leading golf resorts, and has held various positions including golf operations manager and conference and banqueting manager before taking up his current post in 1998. He supervised the staging of two senior British Opens at Turnberry, in 1989 and 1990, and his responsibilities included the organisation and delivery of all events at the resort, including major conferences and golf days. Ewen was also the first manager of the clubhouse that was constructed prior to the staging of the 1994 Open Championship.

Alan McGregor, general manager of St Andrews Links Trust, said, “I am very pleased to welcome Ewen on board. With his extensive background in golf facilities management at Turnberry I am sure he will bring a great deal of experience and expertise to this role. Our clubhouses are a vital part of the Trust’s operations and the service we deliver to local and visiting golfers. Ewen will have a big part to play in helping us improve and develop these services even further.”

Ewen is married to Gillian and has two children, 11 year-old Emma and seven year-old Keith.
