SENIOR MEN'S HOME INTERNATIONALS
HUTCH'S HEROES ON ANOTHER
TITLE TRAIL FOR SCOTLAND
AT DUNBAR THIS WEEK
A ‘magnificent seven’ will represent Scotland at the 2006 Belhaven Best Senior Men's Home Internationals, hosted at Dunbar Golf Course this week (fromTuesday to Thursday).
The Scots will be hoping for a hat-trick to round off an impressive season on the home international front, following the boys' and men's teams clinching their titles earlier this season.
Captained by former Scottish amateur champion Ian Hutcheon from Monifieth, the line-up comprises six team members recently crowned European senior team champions at the inaugural event hosted in Nurmo, Finland this August.
Three times Scottish stroke-play champion - and Scottish seniors champion at Alyth in 2004, Hutcheon, pictured above, is joined by current Scottish senior amateur champion Stephen Ellis (Cowal), Brian Grieve (King James VI), 2005 Scottish senior amateur champion Gordon MacDonald (Callander), Alan Ferguson (Drumpellier) and Castlerock’s Donald McCart.
Donald produced one of the shock results of this past summer's Scottish amateur championship this year at Nairn when he knocked out past title-winner George Murray.
The European champions are joined by Royal Aberdeen’s John Johnston who played for Scotland in the home internationals of 1970 and 1971.
Should their mission prove successful, it would be the first time Scotland have ever won the over-55s domestic event in its six year history.
The three-day tournamen, sponsored by the SGU’s official beer partner Belhaven Best, will mark Dunbar Golf Club’s 150th anniversary.
Belhaven Best Marketing Manager, Chris Anderson said, “Belhaven are delighted to be supporting the Seniors Home Internationals in partnership with the Scottish Golf Union. The event provides a great fit for our brand, with our roots in Dunbar and current expansion of our brand into the rest of the UK. We wish all teams the best of luck in what should be a great three days of competition.”
