SENIOR MEN'S HOME INTERNATIONALS DAY 2

ENGLAND DENT SCOTLAND HOPES WITH
A 6-3 VICTORY AT DUNBAR

Scotland’s hopes of winning the senior men’s home international title for the first time at Dunbar Golf Club were dented by England who won 6-3 by taking the singles 4 ½- 1 ½.
Scotland, the European senior champions, had only one afternoon winner - Donald McCart. Skipper Ian Hutcheon gained half-a-point.
In the other match, Ireland overpowered Wales 7-2.
Going into the final day, the position is that England and Ireland top the table with 1 1/2pt each, followed by Scotland with 1pt and Wales none.
In the final matches on Thursday, Scotland play Ireland and Wales meet England.

Foursomes:
S Ellis and B Grieve lost to D Arnold and A Squires 2 and 1; A Ferguson and G MacDonald bt Stewart King and Roy Smethurst 2 and 1; I C Hutcheon and J W Johnston halved with B Knott and C Reynolds.
Singles: Ellis lost to Arnold 2 and 1, MacDonald lost to Squires 2 and 1,
Grieve lost to King 3 and 1, Hutcheon halved with Knott, D McCart bt D Lane, Ferguson lost to Smethurst 4 and 3 (1 ½-4 ½).
IRELAND 7, WALES 2
Foursomes:
A Pierse and B Reddan bt P Jones and K Stimpson 1 hole; H Smyth and D Branigan bt G Rees and J Whitcutt 2 and 1, S McParland and M Kelly bt B Griffiths and B Cramb 1 hole (3-0).
Singles: Pierse bt Simptson 5 and 4, Kelly bt Whitcutt 3 and 2, Branigan lost to Griffiths 2 and 1, McParland bt Rees 4 and 3, Reddan lost to M Rooke 4 and 3, Smyth bt Jones 1 hole (4-2).
