SCOT FIGHTING FOR TEAM PLACE IN USA

McLACHLAN JOINT 13th AS
TEAM-MATE ALEX
HOGBEN SLIPS TO 10th
Last year’s Scottish youths golf champion Peter McLachlan, pictured right, from Eastwood, a student at the University of Missouri Kansas City, tied for 13th place in the Bill Ross Intercollegiate tournament at Hillcrest Country Club, Kansas City.
Peter had rounds of 72, 72 and 75 for a total of 219 – 10 shots behind the joint winners Bruno Buccolo and Rhein Gibson, both students at Oklahoma Christian University.
McLachlan’s team-mate, Alex Hogben, a freshman from Ringway, Manchester, finished 10th with 71, 69 and 76 for 216 over the par-72, 6,763yd course. Hogben’s final round cost him the joint second place he held with one round to go.
Oklahoma Christian (852) won the team event by nine shots from Oklahoma City. UMKC finished third on 866.
The arrival of the highly-rated Hogben has cost McLachlan his place in the UMKC first team of five players. Peter's scores counted for the UMKC "Blues" team who finished an unofficial fourth in the team event.
His total was the fourth best of all the UMKC players in the tournament so he could be fighting his way back into the team to travel to on the road events. This one was a "home posting."
