ENGLISH NEWCOMER IMPRESSES IN US

McLACHLAN JOINT 12TH WHILE
FRESHMAN HOGBEN FROM
MANCHESTER LIES SECOND

Peter McLachlan, last year’s Scottish youths champion from Eastwood, was lying joint 12th after a pair of 72s for a level par 36-hole tally of 144 in the Bill Ross Intercollegiate 54-hole golf tournament at Hillcrest County Club, Kansas City.
McLachlan, pictured right, a second-year student at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, was outscored by a newcomer to the Kangaroos squad – Alex Hogben, a 6ft 3in freshman from Manchester, seventh in the English boys’ championship for the Carris Trophy this past summer.
Hogben (picture on right by courtesy of TOM WARD), who finished joint seventh - the best by a UMKC player, in his debut appearance on the American college golf circuit earlier in September, scored 71 and 69 to be one shot behind leader Richard Graham (Oklahoma Christian) (69-70).
UMKC share the team lead with Oklahoma Christian on 572 in a field of 12 colleges.
