SOUTH-EAST DISTRICT OPEN
CRAIG ELLIOT LEADS AT HALFWAY BUT LOT
OF PLAYERS STILL IN CONTENTION
Edinburgh player Craig Elliot (Carrickvale), winner of the 2002 Scottish mid-amateur championship when he was playing out of Ratho Park, is the narrow leader at the halfway stage of the South-east District Open championship at Longniddry Golf Club.
Elliot, with rounds of 64 and 65 for a seven-under-par rally of 129, is one stroke ahead of young Robert McKnight (Barassie) who scored 64 and 66 for 130.
There are four players on 131, another two on 132, one on 133 and two on 134 so the stage is set for a competitive final 36 holes on Sunday.
Former title winner Steve Armstrong from Turnhouse had the lowest score of the morning round – a five-under-par 63 – but he could only match the par of 68 in the afternoon. He and Mark Kerr (Marriott Dalmahoy) and Glenn Campbell (Blairgowrie), last year’s Scottish champion, are the trio on 131.
A total of 30 players exactly qualified for the final two rounds with aggregates of three-over-par 139 or better.
