SCOTTISH AREA TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

PERTH AND KINROSS, ANGUS, RENFREWSHIRE
AND LOTHIANS QUALIFY FOR SEMI-FINALS

Perth & Kinross and Angus are through to the semi-finals of the Scottish Golf Union area team championship at Glasgow Gailes Golf Club on Saturday October 7.
Heavy rain nationwide marred the final set of group qualifying matches.
The Angus v North-east Group B match at Letham Grange was abandoned in mid-morning without any foursomes being completed. Each side earned one point for a drawn match.
Angus had won their two previous group ties and so topped the section.
In the other Group B tie at Tulliallan, Clackmannanshire led Dumbartonshire 3-0 after the foursomes but play was then abandoned.
Perth & Kinross’s Group D tie against South was held up by the rain but eventually P and K completed their third win of the section, by 5 ½-3 ½ over South.
Glasgow and North drew 4 ½-4 ½ in the other Group D tie at Glasgow Gailes.
Lothians will play defending champions Renfrewshire while Perth & Kinross will meet Angus in the other semi-final.
This is believed to be the last time the SGU area team championship will be run under this sectional qualifying format. It is understood that all the action will be condensed into one weekend in future with all 16 areas sending their teams to the chosen venue.
Final sectional ties resulted:
Group A – Fife 3, Argyll & Bute 0, match abandoned after foursomes (rain) (at Lundin); Lanarkshire 0, Lothians 3, match abandoned after foursomes (rain) (at Colville Park). Qualifiers – Lothians.
