SCOT'S GREAT PERFORMANCE

DUNCAN STEWART’S FOURTH
STRAIGHT WIN ON US
COLLEGE CIRCUIT

Duncan Stewart from Grantown-on-Spey scored is first fourth straight win on the American college circuit – and his second after a play-off – at the Country Club of South Carolina in Florence, South Carolina.
Stewart, pictured right, a student at the University of Jacksonville, Florida, shot rounds of 69, 71 and 73 to be one of three players to finish on three-under-par 213 in the RDG Intercollegiate tournament.
The others were Jordy Hayden (Troy University) (66-73-74) and Stan Guerrero (Old Dominion University) (70-72-71).
At the third hole of a sudden-death play-off, Stewart holed a 32ft birdie putt to win. That gave Duncan – winner of the Chiberta Grand Prix in France during his summer holiday – two wins out of two in America to start the 2006-2007 college golf season. He ended the 2005-2006 season by winning the last two events.
Jacksonville team-mate Russell Knox from Inverness finished tied seventh on 216 with scores of 74, 68 and 74.
A third Scot on the team, Jamie Kennedy from Edinburgh, came 91st in a field of 95 with scores of 78, 84 and 77.
Kennedy’s final round was important because it gave Jacksonville victory in the team by a single shot. They finished on 874, just ahead of Troy (875) and Tennessee-Chattanooga (878) in the field of 18 college teams.
Like Duncan Stewart, Jacksonville have won four straight team titles.
