Leading final totals at Monifieth Links

Gullane's Marc Owenson pips Fraser Mann over final round to win Scottish Alliance Championship

By COLIN FARQUHARSON

Gullane's Marc Owenson edged ahead of Fraser Mann (Carnoustie) with a final round of three-under-par 78 to his rival's 70 to win the Scotsman Trophy as Scottish Golfers Alliance champion over 54 holes at Monifieth Links.
Owenson achieved the best win of his fledgling pro career, worth £1,000 in cash value but probably more in terms of being a confidence-booster, with a seven-under-par total of 206, having had earlier rounds of 70 and 68.
Mann was level with Owenson after two rounds of 69. Fraser has already this season won the PGA senior title for the second time in three years as well as the World Hickory Championship a week or two ago as well as several Midland Alliance weekly competitions.
Craig Lawrie (Paul Lawrie Golf Centre) (70-71-68) and Jamie McLeary (Deer Park) (71-68-70) finished joint third on 209.
Simon Lockhart, who plays off +2 at Bathgate Golf Club, won the Clydesdale Bank Quaich as the leading amateur with scores of 76, 73 and 72 for an eight-over-par aggregate of 221 which placed him joint 12th overall in the field of over 100.
Spearheaded by Marc Owenson's effort, East won the Mountbatten Trophy team title with a total of 1311 - seven strokes ahead of North-east with Midland third on 1326.

Next year's Scottish Alliance Championship will be hosted by Boat of Garten Golf Club from October 2 to 4.
