Kuchar to make third appearance in 

Scottish Open

American star Matt Kuchar will make his third consecutive appearance in the Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open when he tees it up at The Renaissance Club in North Berwick on July 11-14, 2019.

The four-time Ryder Cup player is the current rankings leader on the US PGA Tour following two victories and a further four top tens, and the Rolex Series event once again plays a key role in his schedule as it takes its traditional slot in the week before The Open.

The 40-year-old American has three top tens in his eight previous Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open appearances, including a second-place finish just a few miles along Scotland’s Golf Coast at Gullane Golf Club in 2015.

His tied fourth place in 2017 preceded his best ever showing 

in The Open at Royal Birkdale the following week - where he 

finished as runner-up to compatriot Jordan Spieth - and he 

went on to finish ninth at Carnoustie Golf Links last season

after once again playing in Scotland’s national open the 

previous week.

Former Scottish Amateur Champion Culverwell joins ProDreamUSA staff.

ProDreamUSA are thrilled to announce that former Scottish Amateur Champion Zander Culverwell has joined the company as a Regional Associate.

Culverwell, who attended both Stirling University and the University of Minnesota on a golf scholarship, enjoyed a successful career in the amateur game, representing Scotland on several occasions and was selected for Team GB at the World Student Games before moving into the professional ranks.

Van Rooyen leads Trophee Hassan by one after a five-under 68

Erik van Rooyen will take a one-stroke lead into the final round of the Trophée Hassan II after a scintillating five-under-par 68 at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam

The South African, chasing his first European Tour title, finished with a flourish as he birdied the final three holes on the par-73 Red Course in Rabat to move to eight under par.

A thrilling final day is in prospect in the Moroccan capital, as four of the top seven players will go in search of maiden European Tour victories.

Jorge Campillo, who finished runner-up twice and also third in March this year, continued the run of form which has seen him move inside the top 100 in the world. The Spaniard carded a four under par round of 69 to take sole ownership of second place.

In third, Sean Crocker sits one stroke ahead of fellow 2018 European Challenge Tour graduate Grant Forrest, who shares fourth place on five under par with Wade Ormsby, Lee Slattery and Julian Suri.

Erik van Rooyen: “I didn't even realise I made five birdies to be honest. I didn't switch any gears. I struggled with my rhythm, my tempo, but in the beginning I think I just kind of found my flow on the back nine. I spoke to Alex, my caddie, and said we'll just keep doing what we're doing. I think we were at level par through eight holes and things just started to click.

“I think I've been in this position a number of times now. The nerves will be there again tomorrow, but I love to be in this position. What we've been doing up until now has been great, and we'll just keep doing that.”

Jorge Campillo: “I played solid today. Better than yesterday. I got a few good up-and-downs and I made a few good putts. It was a good round. Tough day.

“Patience to win and I have to be aggressive to win tomorrow. I'll be patient; if I don't win tomorrow, I'll be patient and try some other weeks, but tomorrow I'll try to play aggressive like I did today and hopefully I can make the putts and hit it good off the tee.”

Sean Crocker: “It always can go better. I haven't been in this stage too many times, other than college and amateur golf. It's still new to me as a pro, so I thought I did all right.

“In Qatar last year, I had a chance to experience the final group, so I learnt a lot of that from that. Just kind of take it one shot at a time and feel my game early in the stages, which it was clicking early, so I thought I was going to be able to take it low. The course is tough.”

Syme and Henry in top 10 at halfway in 

Turkey as Haastrup leads at 16 under par

A stunning 11 under par round of 61 means Mark Flindt Haastrup has reached 16 under par at the halfway stage of the Turkish Airlines Challenge and will take a two-shot lead into the weekend at Samsun Golf Club.

Haastrup carded a blemish-free 61 after five birdies and an eagle on the front nine followed by a quartet of successive birdies on the back nine and leads by two over Adrian Meronk and Matthew Jordan, who both carded incredible ten under par rounds of 62.

It looked as though Meronk would be the man to catch as he led the way following the conclusion of the morning groups. Jordan then joined him on 14 under par when he birdied his 15th hole before a bogey-birdie finish meant he had to settle for a share of the lead with Haastrup still out on the course.

After four birdies in a row, the Dane moved to 11 under par with three to play, the possibility of a 59 was on the cards but he could only manage par on each of the last three holes, seeing birdie putts slide narrowly past on both the 16th and 17th, and subsequently signed for a sublime 61.

“I don’t know where that round of golf came from but everything clicked and I got some lucky breaks when I needed to and suddenly I was many under par,” Haastrup said.

“I started birdie-birdie and then hit a horrible shot on the third but hit a great bunker shot and saved par which made that momentum carry on.

“I holed a bunker shot on the next and then at least I knew that if I could keep pressing I could get to six, seven or eight under. Then, suddenly, I kept making birdies and it was a lot of fun.

“It’s very rare that you shoot 30 or under on nine holes so then to do it on two nine holes in row would’ve been unusual.

“When it crept up, I just shook it off and tried to hit the best score I could. If I had a putt for 59 on the last for the magic number then that would’ve been exciting but I missed one on 17.”

The 35-year-old admits to playing poorly in practice rounds at Samsun Golf Club but turned up the style on the second day, although, in typically understated fashion, believes his 11 under par round was not spectacular.

“I liked it when I got here but I didn’t play very well in the practice rounds,” he said. “I found something before the round on Thursday and it hasn’t been spectacular but it’s been solid with a good short game and I’ve putted really well.

“I’ve mostly just been at home so I thought there would have been a lot of rust but maybe it’s rust I need to play well! Maybe I need a long break between tournaments.”

Behind Jordan and Meronk on 14 under par is Robin Sciot-Siegrist who added a seven under par round of 65 to his opening 66 to reach 13 under, while five men sit a shot further back on 12 under par, including first-round leader Francesco Laporta.

One shot further back in tied tenth are four players on 11 under par, including Scott Henry who carded the first hole-in-one of the 2019 Challenge Tour season earlier in the day as he aced the par three 13th with an eight iron from 179 yards.

The third round will begin at 7.30am local time, with the lead group of Haastrup and Meronk teeing off at 12.20pm local time.

JORDAN SMITH'S FLAWLESS 66 GIVES 

HIM ONE-SHOT LEAD A TROPHEE

Jordan Smith carded a blemish-free round of 66 at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam to lead the Trophée Hassan II by one stroke after 18 holes.

The Englishman, who started from the par-four tenth, parred his first four holes in Morocco but birdies on the 14^th, 15^th and 17^th holes saw him make the turn three under par. On the front nine he maintained his consistency, making four birdies in five holes from the third to the seventh as he signed for a seven under par score.

Smith sits one ahead of Spain’s Alejandro Cañizares and America’s Sean Crocker, who both recorded bogey-free rounds of 67 on the formidable par-73 Red Course.

One stroke further back on five under par are Matthieu Pavon and Stephen Gallacher. The Scotsman carded just the second albatross on the European Tour this season, holing out from 246 yards with his second shot, using a three iron on the par-five eighth hole.

Also in contention is the 2016 Trophée Hassan II champion Edoardo Molinari, who sits in sixth place on four under par.

Jordan Smith: “The first four holes, I couldn't really hit a barn door, and just scrambled well for the first two, stuck in there and it all came together at the right time. Hit a lot of nice iron shots sort of close. Made a few nice putts.

“I hit a lot of iron shots close. I think that was key for me today. I rolled it really nice. That's probably the best I've putted for a longs time and I made -- I scrambled when I needed to, when I missed a green, I chipped on and holed the putt. It was all about momentum for me today.”

Alejandro Cañizares: “The first - I would say - 12 holes, I played great. Didn't miss many shots. It was very fun. Had a little luck on a couple coming in on 6 and 7. But yeah, overall, played great. I missed a few, but I made a couple par putts on 2, my 11th hole, and the par 5, I think it was 5. Very pleased, birdied the last, on 9, difficult hole. Very pleased.

“I think it could have been lower. I missed a short one there, but you know, couldn't complain, as I hit the pin. But I missed a three- or four-footer for birdie, and I missed a six-footer on the next. But you know, I missed a couple, but I made -- obviously I made a few, so I can't complain. Golf is like that.”

Sean Crocker: “I putted really well. I had five weeks off this last – after Kenya, and then I just went home and I just worked on my game and it seems to be paying off.

“For me that was a big key in kind of getting the season rolling in the right direction. My game wasn't far off but it was sloppy and I wasn't making putts, so those five weeks off couldn't have helped me more.”

Stephen Gallacher: “Jack was confident on it. He said -- well, it was only one club. It was just whether the ball flight -- I had to flight it in a little bit. It was 240, so trying to land it 225 and run it up the green. It just came off perfect. The perfect trajectory and got a good bounce and just thought it was going to run up to eight-foot or something like that and it went in. First one as a pro.”

 Day Three Report A record-breaking eight Europeans progressed to the Round of 16 at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play after another fascinating day at Austin Country Club, with Lucas Bjerregaard the only debutant in the field to top his group - setting up a clash against fellow Scandinavian Henrik Stenson. Bjerregard’s match with England's Matt Wallace went all the way to the 18th hole, but the 27 year old battled to a one-hole victory to join nine other European Tour members in the final 16. 
Stenson, meanwhile, beat 2020 Ryder Cup Captain Jim Furyk 5 and 4 to make it three successive victories.
  The 2018 Race to Dubai Champion Francesco Molinari also retained his 100 per cent record with a 2 and 1 triumph over Webb Simpson, as did Branden Grace – the South African overcoming Chez Reavie 2 and 1 to set up a showdown with Ryder Cup legend Sergio Garcia, who progressed despite a 2 and 1 defeat by Patrick Reed. 
 The first day of the knockout stages has thrown up numerous mouth-watering matches in Texas, with Molinari taking on his 2018 Ryder Cup team-mate Paul Casey – who beat Cameron Smith 4 and 3 to top his group – while World Number Two Justin Rose ground out a one-hole victory over Gary Woodland to remain unbeaten. Rose will face Kevin Na in the first knock-out stage. 
 Haotong Li of China overcame Sweden’s Alex Noren in a play-off to squeeze through and he will come up against last year’s runner-up Kevin Kisner, who beat Ian Poulter on the third play-off hole to win his group. 
 Tyrrell Hatton beat his English compatriot Lee Westwood 3 and 1 and he will face Matt Kuchar in the Round of 16, while Louis Oosthuizen triumphed over 2017 European Tour Number One Tommy Fleetwood to set up a clash with Marc Leishman. 
 All eyes in Texas though, are likely to be on the 8:30am match which pitches World Number Four Rory McIlroy against 14-time Major Champion Tiger Woods.

 “Obviously that was the goal, to get through. In the perfect world, I would have loved to win today and I probably had my chances to do it. But you also have to give credit to Patrick, he played really well, mainly the back nine. He shot five-under in eight holes. “So when someone does that to you and you don't take a couple of chances that you had, it's going to be difficult. But we're through tomorrow. That's the main thing on this round-robin thing. And now tomorrow it's a brand new tournament.”

“The whole day was just like a roller coaster, and I didn't play solid the whole day. I was a little bit off on my tee shots and I think that was it. And on my final hole, the 18th, I was just a little bit nervous and hit the putt a little soft, and it didn't get enough break. “But I felt like if happens, it happens. I felt like I ran out of all the energy already. I need to get something, recover and let's see what happens tomorrow.” 
 Paul Casey “I've got to think I had a little bit of luck there with Cam three-putting right there. But I feel really good about the game. The only thing I'm trying to do is save the energy, because the win last week at Valspar, that was hard work on Sunday. 
 “It took a lot out of us. Johnny and I were really tired Monday and Tuesday. I guess the key is play as few holes as possible, I’m just trying to do that.”
 Justin Rose
 “I was delighted to get through that match. It wasn't really pretty, to be honest with you. I think I classed it as a pillow fight and then turned into a bit of a dogfight to the end.
 “Gary actually played pure off the tee, especially. I think he let me in a little on the front nine. I felt like he could be two or three up on me early, but fortunately I think I went one-up through eight. So that was the key moment in the match, about six, seven, eight - just really keeping myself in it or being let back into the match.
 “And then I got a little bit of momentum up, and birdieing 12 and 13 got me two-up. At that point I was just trying to get it into the clubhouse and get through. 
 “Kevin is a gritty player. I think this golf course is his type of golf course. Length is not a big deal here. He's got a great short game. He can walk putts in with the best of them. So I'm going to need to find something a little bit better than what I had today.”

MOLINARI MARCHES ON IN MATCH-PLAY Day Two Report Francesco Molinari’s love affair with match-play golf continued at Austin Country Club, Texas as the Italian cruised to a second successive victory in the group stages of the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play, beating his fellow 2018 Ryder Cup team-mate Thorbjørn Olesen 4 and 3. The reigning Race to Dubai Champion has won more holes than any other player this week after the opening two days of play in Texas, with 15, while he is the only player to have won both of his matches prior to the 16th hole. Including his incredible 100 per cent record at The Ryder Cup last September, Molinari (pictured) has now won seven consecutive match-play encounters in which he has played, and he faces Webb Simpson in Round Three hoping to A Henrik Stenson, meanwhile, will face off with the USA’s 2020 Ryder Cup Captain Jim Furyk in a winner-takes-all clash, with both players having won their opening two matches. Justin Rose will also play Gary Woodland knowing a win will see him through. I played pretty solid and didn't give much for free, even though I tried on one or two occasions. I kept it together nicely, and he gave me one or two easy holes, and other than that I thought I had it under control most of the day.” Sergio Garcia “Pretty much everything went well today. I think I missed maybe one green in these conditions, which were quite tough - a little wind, gusty. I drove the ball very, very well and it my irons really well. I gave myself a lot of birdie opportunities. “I put pressure on him every single hole. And after I got in front - other than that little bogey on 13, I hit a good second shot just a little too hard, I didn't give him anything. I kept putting pressure on him.” Branden Grace “This is fun. Obviously I wish there were more of these events in a year, even if there's just one more. But I think it's tricky around a golf course like this because it's elevated. There's a lot of wind. It's open. “You still have to hit it in the fairways, you can't always just play the golf course and try and make birdies. You have to keep your eye on what your opponent is doing, and feed off that and make decisions according to that. “It's always nice to beat the Number One player in the world. I knew it was going to be a lot of solid golf. And he obviously made a couple of birdies here and there, obviously with the power that he can get on the golf ball.” Li Haotong “It's amazing to win. Today he didn't really give me many holes. It was a tough match against a tough guy to beat. I mean, I've been in some bad positions today, but I just felt I stayed patient. I did that very well. If I lose a hole it doesn't matter, keep my head up. “Even when I won 15 and 16 and 17, I still felt like the worst is I'm going to be half, but it's better than I thought.”

Europeans' good start to WGC-Dell Match play

Day One Report It was a hugely successful opening day for the stars of the European Tour at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play, with Francesco Molinari, Sergio Garcia, Tommy Fleetwood and Paul Casey among the 18 Members to register victories, while Tom Lewis halved his match with World Number Three Brooks Koepka. There were a plethora of notable stories at Austin Country Club in Round One of the Group Stage, with Stenson overcoming Phil Mickelson 2&1 in a rerun of one of the greatest final round battles in Open Championship history back in 2016. Lucas Bjerregaard and Lewis both produced massive upsets as the Dane beat World Number Five Justin Thomas 3&2, while the Englishmen Lewis – who was playing on the Challenge Tour a mere six months ago - clinched a half point against three-time Major Champion Koepka. Matt Wallace also won on his debut, overcoming former Major Champion Keegan Bradley, as did Justin Harding who staged a remarkable comeback to beat Matt Fitzpatrick, having been two down stepping onto the 16th tee. Ryder Cup legend Sergio Garcia beat the current Race to Dubai leader Shane Lowry 4&2, while Ian Poulter – a former winner of this event – sealed a two-up victory over Kevin Kisner. Tiger Woods won his opening Group Stage match, beating Aaron Wise 3&1, while four-time Major winner Rory McIlroy cruised to a 5&4 triumph over Luke List. I was pretty happy with my performance today. I hit some really nice iron shots and made a couple of important putts, as well. “Phil is always worth the price of admission. He hit some fabulous short-game shots on three or four moles holes. He's in some areas where you just can't get up and down, and he's Phil Mickelson and he gets it up and down. So that's always tough to compete against.” Francesco Molinari “I played really well, made some nice putts at the beginning and throughout the match. So I’m really happy the way I played. Obviously, it's a little bit easier when you start that way, but you still have to play a lot of golf and close the match out. “So there were a couple of moments where I could have done maybe better, but all in all a very good day. It's great to start with a win. It doesn’t mean a lot unfortunately, with this format. So I need to show up tomorrow and try to play some similar golf to today.” Ian Poulter “It was a fun match. Up, down, up, all square with a couple to go, so it was interesting. When you're two-up with four to play, you hit a great shot in there to about five feet and Kevin had a putt from about 15 or 17 feet. You've always got to expect him to hole it, which he did. But I wasn't expecting to miss my 5-footer there. So that was a bit of a shame. “And then I hit driver-driver on 16, which I'd like to play the hole over again. It doesn't matter now. It kind of got up on to the green and it just trickled off and obviously he holes out from 70 yards, he goes square, and it's really game on from a position where I kind of had control of it. “And I had a big putt there at 17 to leave myself just under the hole to give myself a right-to-left putt, which was a good one. I holed it, and obviously up and down from the last.” Tom Lewis “Every game will be tough this week. I knew that I was going to get a tough draw, being one of the last guys in. Brooks is a nice guy, I've known him through the European Tour and it was a good day. We weren't at our best. I handed him the first couple of holes. It's a bit frustrating but I'm pleased I made that birdie on the last hole. “I've been working on my wedge play the last couple of weeks, and it’s obviously shown through there. I pulled it the tiniest bit. I knew that the slope wasn't really going to kick in. I was pleased to have a putt for the winning hole.” Lucas Bjerregaard “The last couple holes were a little more stressful than I was hoping. I hit a good drive on 15 and then, it was a pretty simple pitch shot in there that I messed up pretty bad. But I played well today, I didn't make many mistakes. I made that one on 15 and hit a shot in the hazard on three. Other than that I put it in some good spots and drove the ball nicely. “I didn't give too much away. And then I made a couple of good putts where JT had hit it closer than me and he missed those. NACHO ELVIRA LEADS BY TWO INTO FINAL ROUND OF MAYBANK CHAMPIONSHIP Nacho Elvira, pictured above in action today, has a first European Tour title in his sights as he takes a two-shot lead into the final round of the Maybank Championship. Spaniard Elvira, a four-time winner on the European Challenge Tour, missed five straight cuts at the start of the season before finishing second in his last event in Qatar. He closed his third round at Saujana Golf and Country Club with back-to-back birdies to sign for an impressive round of 66, which moved him to 13 under par and gave him breathing space at the top of the leaderboard. David Lipsky of the United States sealed his second European Tour win at this season’s Alfred Dunhill Championship and he is Elvira's nearest challenger on 11 under par after carding seven birdies and two bogeys in his third round 67. Germany’s Maximilian Kieffer, Jazz Janewattananond of Thailand and Australian Scott Hend are in a tie for third at ten under par, with the latter producing a crowd-pleasing moment when he found himself in the trees on the last and chose the perfect angle to bounce his third shot off the grandstand and onto the green. Four-time Major winner Ernie Els and Frenchman Benjamin Hebert, whose 65 was the lowest round of the day and the joint lowest of the week so far, are at nine under par, with England’s Oliver Fisher one shot further back. Couldn't go above, if I went low it would have stopped on the green. Just went six iron and a low punch off the board.   “Look at last year, Sharma shot a ten under 62 in the last round. Somebody is going to light it up, someone always does. So many good players, good depth in the field. If I sign for a 62 tomorrow, I'll be quite happy to sit in the clubhouse and see what happens.” Benjamin Hebert:“I hit a lot of greens today, missing only the first and the last. In the middle it was great.“It was tough yesterday afternoon. I felt like I played good but it was very tough. No doubting Thomas: Pieters leads by one at Maybank Championship 

Round two report

Thomas Pieters will take a one-shot lead into the weekend at the Maybank Championship after the golf course showed its teeth on Friday.

The big-hitting Belgian carded four birdies and a single bogey in his second round at Saujana Golf and Country Club to move to eight under par.

It had seemed Pieters and his fellow challengers might be fighting for second rather than top spot when overnight co-leader Nacho Elvira opened up a four-stroke lead over the chasing pack early in the afternoon.

But as the wind picked up, the Spaniard dropped three shots in two holes on the back nine to slip to seven under par, where he sits alongside Indonesia's Danny Masrin in a tie for second place.

It's a first appearance at this event - which is co-sanctioned by the European Tour and the Asian Tour - for four-time Major winner Ernie Els, and after a second round 70 he sits at six under par alongside fellow South African Dean Burmester, American pair David Lipsky and Paul Peterson, Jazz Janewattananond of Thailand, Germany’s Maximilian Kieffer and Australian Lucas Herbert.

Thomas Pieters:

“I struggled off the tee early on, at the end it was a lot better. It didn't feel like a good day to me, I made the best of what I had. I gave myself a lot of chances but I couldn't seem to get the ball in the hole.

“I birdied 16, the par three, it was a nice putt. But other than that I felt like I was missing putts all over. I tried not to over read the putt on 16. When you miss a couple of putts you try to read to much into it. I just put it down, looked once, and gave it a go.”

“It was my idea (to advertise space on his golf bag). My brother has a creative company, but it was actually my idea. I thought, why not, it's empty. I thought it was quite funny, and it got picked up this week. I think it was Jamie Gough that tweeted and a few people were talking about it. If Eddie Pepperell wants to put his face on it, I will happily take it.”

Nacho Elvira:

“I still feel like I'm playing solid. I struggled a bit on 14, I three putted on 13. I had a really easy birdie chance then I three putted. 14 is a really tough hole, everybody knows it. The pin was tucked, I had a hard chip, anyway, double there and then three putted the next hole.

“Overall I'm happy. I'm hitting the ball fine, I'm putting myself in position to find the pins and I'm looking forward to the weekend.

“The tee shots feel like a dream. To be honest I'm picking up a little bit of confidence as the season goes on. I'm happy the way I'm hitting it right now.”

Ernie Els:

“I think scoring conditions are a bit tougher than last year. I've never played here before but from what I've heard the guys usually make a lot of birdies. With the new greens the ball is releasing a bit and I kind of like that. 

“The last four years have been a real struggle, so I'm really happy that I'm playing good golf again. My body feels good and the ball striking is there now. On the greens I'm starting to feel really comfortable, so that means I can have a chance again to play with these guys. That's what I want, to feel like I can have a chance playing Saturdays and Sundays and that's kind of my goal.

“I've got to keep doing what I'm doing and eliminate the little mistakes. The one on 17 wasn't very good. Got to try to get into the 60s and if you're within three or four going into Sunday you've got a chance. Shubhankar showed that last year, coming out of the pack and winning.”

Max Kieffer:

“I played really good today tee to green, hit a couple of wedges really close. Even had a few mid-range putts that just burned the edges, so really good.

“I played well here last year, played OK two years ago. You don't need to be really straight off the tee but if you hit a wild one then it's gone so that kind of suits me. The wind direction suits me better than last year because I can't quite reach the par fives this year. The wedge game was very good today, so that was the key.

“I'm very happy with the way I'm playing. Since I started working with my new coach (Ian Holloway) last year, I've been steadily getting better. Just focus on the process, that's all you can do, and it's been working for me.”
