Fyfe finishes as top Scot in T12 position at Frilford Heath

SHARE OF THE SPOILS AT europro tour QUALIFYING SCHOOL 2019

Englishmen Jamie Dick and Robert Burlison tied for victory at the EuroPro Tour Qualifying School 2019 final stages after both posted solid scores on the final day at Frilford Heath Golf Club.

Dick’s round included six birdies on his front nine and a further three on the back nine to mark an impressive round of 64. 

Burlison of Enville Golf Club had a consistent week, finishing  with a final round of 69 for the second day running. 

Dick shot hit three rounds of 68, 73, 64 to take him to the top of the leaderboard with Burlison. Both will share the prize pot and both players will be given a Bushnell PRO XE.

Lawrence Allan leads Scots into final round 
at Frilford Heath

Josh Loughrey (Wrag Barn Golf Club) (67-68) leads by one stroke from  Robert Burlison (Enville) (67-69) going into the final day of the EuroPro Tour Final Q School 2019 after rounds on the Blue and Red Courses at Frilford Heath Golf Club/

Three players share third place on seven-under 137 - Swede Daniel Jennevret (69-68), Harry Ellis (Wentworth Club), 69-68, who recovered from an early double bogey, and Maarten Bosch, 68-69.

Jennevret said: “I felt good out there. I was giving myself lots of opportunities and managed to convert quite a few. I have really enjoyed the two courses and the greens are in great condition.”
The best score of the second round came from Pavan Sagoo of Ealing Golf Club who shot -7 to recover from his +1 round yesterday. Sagoo hit seven birdies on an impressive round showing glimpses of the form that could put him well in the mix for the Q School 2019 title. 
Scot Lawrence Allan, Alva Golf Club, also recovered from +1 to finish Day 2 on -4 with a round of 67 to be the highest placed Scot. Meanwhile, Northern Irishman, Owen Crooks attached to Bushfoot Golf Club was the highest placed amateur on -5.
Another Scot, Calum Fyfe (Golf4Life), also went well, shooting -6 today to recover on -3 with a second-round card of 66.

The Cut

The cut was made at +1 on the second round with 80 players plus six ties progressing to the final round of play tomorrow on the blue course. 
Sam Locke (Paul Lawrie Golf Centre) made the cut right on the limit mark of 145 with scores of 72 and 73. He looked on his way 
out of the tournament when he took 40 shots to reach the turn in his second round but Locke stormed home in 33 with three birdies and no bogeys.

All those who have progressed to Final Stage have already earned at least a Category 14 ranking, with golfers making the cut at the Final Stage cut earning a minimum category 10 and the top 30 earning a category 3.

Today (Wednesday, April 17), is a key day at the EuroPro Tour Final Q School at Frilford Heath. At the end of it the leading 80 and ties will qualify for Thursday's final 18 holes. 
All those who have progressed to the Final Stage have already earned at least a Category 14 ranking , with competitors making the cut at the Final Stage cut earning a minimum category 10 and the top 30 earning a category 3.S
Leading Scot on 140 (73-67) is Lawrence Allan (Alva)
Sean Lawrie (Paul Lawrie Golf Centre) is comfortably placed on T24 with rounds of 68 and 73 for 141.
The clubhouse forecast is for players with sub-totals of 145 and better to figure among the leading 80 and ties who will advance to Thursday's play.
That would include Sam Locke (Paul Lawrie Golf Centre) who has had scores of 72 and 73 for 145.

Sean Lawrie (68) makes a flying start at EuroPro Tour Final Q School

Frilford Heath’s own Robert Harrhy tied at the top alongside Harry Konig of Tiverton Golf Club after Round 1 of Q School Final Qualifying at Frilford Heath Golf Club today (Tuesday April 2019) going into Round 2.

On conditions a million miles away from those witnessed in the opening stage of Q School, it was Harrhy and Konig who led the field on -6 with cards of 66. 
Harrhy completing his round with four birdies in a row to finish up going in the clubhouse as the leader. Konig hitting an eagle on the Par 5, 6th hole was a stand-out moment on an impressive round for the American. 

Going into Wednesday's Round 2, amateur Owen Crooks, Bushfoot Golf Club, finds himself in a strong position tied third with -5 alongside Sam Stillwell, Gareth Evans (Wrexham Golf Club), and Robert Burlison (Enville Golf Club). 7 players in total finished on -5. 

Donnington Grove’s tied winner from the first stage of qualifying, Lars Buijis from Royal Antwerp Golf Club, went -4 after his initial round.

Former international cricketer Sean Ervine teed off alongside Stonehaven's Sam Locke ( Paul Lawrie Golf Centre) and American Andrew Arft, the three coming into the clubhouse on +2, Par and +2 respectively.

A lively Par 3 Hole 6 with two bunkers and a water hazard, proved a great success for Samuel Whitaker,  Blankney Golf Club, who shot a hole in one, finishing -2, 70.

Whitaker said: “I played well today, I was a bit disappointed when I found the water on 3 but didn’t let that affect my round. We couldn’t see the hole from the tee, but on the line, I hit it on, I knew there was a chance of a hole in 1. I’ve only ever had 2 before today and as for another one tomorrow, we will have to wait and see.”

TOMORROW

Tomorrow (Wednesday), is a key day with golfers taking on either the red or blue course, depending on which they didn’t play today. After that, qualifying will be cut to the leading 80 ahead of play concluding on the blue course this Friday.

Sean Lawrie well placed but Sam Locke is going to miss out by one shot 

The leading 80 players and ties after today's second round of the EuroPro Tour Final Qualifying School at Frilford Heath will advance to Thursday's final round.
Sam Locke (Paul Lawrie Golf Centre) is going to miss out by a single shot in joint 81st place with scores of 72 and 73 for 145
Stablemate Sean Lawrie, in contrast, is going to make the final round with east after scores of 68 and 73 for 141, which has him sharing 24th place at the moment.

Snow KOs play at Macdonald Cardrona, Peebles: rearranged for 18 holes only on Wednesday, April 10

There was no play for the second day in a row at Macdonald Cardrona golf course, near Peebles in the EuroPro Tour Qualifying School competition.

Snow was the culprit today and the competition will now by over 18 holes only on Wednesday, April 10.

The final number of qualifying spots will be determined by a percentage of the field once play is underway. Players can withdraw through The EuroPro Tournament office before 3 pm on Friday 5th April 2019 for a full refund.

The PGA EuroPro Tour first Qualifying Round got underway across four courses today (Wednesday 3rd April 2019) as entrants attempted to reach the final stage of qualifying at Frilford Heath Golf Club in a couple of weeks.

A cold snap delayed the start of play across the courses with Macdonald Cardrona near Peebles falling foul of the weather with play abandoned until tomorrow and the competition cut to 18 holes 

Martyn Thompson after his Hole in One

Donnington Grove

A hole in one on the 15th for Martyn Thompson of Parkstone Golf Club wasn’t enough to see him lead at Donnington Grove with James Allan, Lars Buijs, and Sam Day of Chelmsford Golf Club  respectively leading at 3 under. Australian Daniel Gaunt carded 70, -2 to place him second. Thompson shot 71 to be 1 under in third. 

On his hole in one, Thompson said: “I’ve been playing golf for 35 years and that’s only the third ace I’ve had. It’s nice to do it under a little pressure on a tough hole. I was level par at the time. We saw it disappear but I thought it’d disappeared over the ridge. I honestly thought it’d just disappeared over the ridge.”

Caversham Heath Golf Club

Six birdies and an eagle for amateur Daniel Brown of Littlestone Golf Club put him in control at Caversham Heath as he finished round one on 5 under. Thomas Jordan, Ben Smith, Samuel Whittaker, and Dongwon Kim all tied in second on 4 under after Round One with cards of 69. Another notable entrant was former Zimbabwe and Hampshire professional cricketer Sean Ervine finishing Day One on -1 carding 72.

On leading the pack Brown said: “It felt good out there. I was swinging well. I was very pleased with how I played. It felt like the conditions were there for it to be played the way I did.”

Into tomorrow: ” I’ve just got to keep going and doing it tomorrow. Just keep it steady with no unnecessary risk. ” 

Macdonald Portal

An impressive card of 7 under, 66 gave Irishmen John Hickey of Cork Golf Club a two-shot lead at Macdonald Portal. Hickey’s round including seven birdies gave him his lead with James Walker, The Oaks Golf Club, Robert Burlison of Enville Golf Club, Gian-Marco Petrozzi of Trentham all two shots behind on -5 through 18.

Hickey said: “I found it quite good. Cold and wet and managed my way around it so I can’t really complain at all. I’m just going to try and keep grafting and keep the foot down and see where it leaves me.”

Studley Wood Golf Club

A delay started the day at Studley Wood with the frost hanging around but that didn’t hinder 16-year-old Jinpyo Ahn as he went 8 under with a card of 65 to lead by three. Amateur Nathan Slater of Bewdley Pines was closest on 5 under with American Brendan Peel also on -5. Ahn and Peel finished with eight birdies apiece.
