Cody Gribble storms to four-shot win at Sanderson Farms Championship

US PGA Tour rookie Cody Gribble produced a final round far beyond his years to win the Sanderson Farms Championship in Mississippi by four shots on Sunday
Gribble (26) was playing in only his eighth US Tour event, and second as a tour member, and his victory was all the more impressive considering his opening round effort.
He had struggled to a one-over 73 on Thursday but went 21 under across the next 54 holes and closed with a bogey-free round of 65 to turn what had been a tight tournament into a rout.
Gribble was one behind Chris Kirk and Luke List heading into the last 18 holes and took his time to get into top spot, making just a couple of his birdies on the front nine.
List dropped an early shot, but picked up two when he eagled the fifth, while Kirk's front nine was frustrating affair that ended with nine pars.
Gribble had seven birdies on Sunday to pull away from the rest of the field

And that gave Gribble the chance to blow the tournament wide open on the way home, as he started his back nine with birdies at the 11th and 13th to reach the summit.
List and Kirk both birdied the 11th as well, but they were left trailing by Gribble's birdie blitz at the 15th, 16th and 17th as he stormed clear of the field and closed on 20 under.
Gribble, who was a team-mate of Jordan Spieth in his collegiate days, said: "There's no words right now. It's an unbelievable experience."
Kirk managed one more birdie at the 15th while List parred his way home, with both players finishing four adrift on 16 under alongside England's Greg Owen, finishing runner-up for the third time in his lengthy PGA Tour career.

Owen closed with a round of 68 but was left to rue dropped shots at the eighth and 12th holes as he was trying to build momentum to keep tabs on Gribble.
Former US Open champion Lucas Glover finished in a tie for fifth after closing with a 70, where he was joined by Japan's Hiroshi Iwata (68) and another youngster Xander Schauffele

Paul Doherty tied sixth in Mena Tour

Championship at Muscat, Oman

MUSCAT, Oman — Max Williams put himself within striking distance of ensuring a perfect birthday present when he shot back-to-back 68s today to open up a one-shot lead going into final round of the MENA Tour Championship at Muscat Hills Golf and Country Club.
England’s Williams, who celebrates his 26th birthday on Tuesday, rattled off five birdies against a lone bogey to reach eight-under for the tournament as the chasing pack included his compatriots Daniel Owen and Joe Heraty and South Africa’s Tyler Hogarty a further shot adrift.
Jordan Garnish, also of England, was sitting solo fifth on six under as Morocco’s Faycal Serghini moved in a two-way tie for sixth on five under along with Paul Doherty of Scotland.
“I am hitting the ball well, probably the best I have struck for a long time. Feeling quite comfortable out there on the course which in great condition. I would say everything is falling into place,” said Williams, who is seeking his first win on the MENA Golf Tour.
“Going into the final day with a lead is a new situation for me. I really don’t what to expect. Will see things unfold. All I know the sun still will come out tomorrow,” said the Epsom native.
A familiar face on the tour, Hogarty rattled off six birdies against a lone bogey while Heraty spiced up his second round with four birdies, one eagle and two bogeys as the duo reached seven-under for the tournament.
“I was a bit erratic off the tee, but my approaches were good and I managed to hole some good putts,” said Hogarty, who hit his nine-iron approach from 171 yards on the 18th to within three feet for a birdie to end the round on a high.
England’s Heraty, who won the Sahara Kuwait Championship two weeks ago, felt he played just solid golf. “I hit plenty of fairways and created good scoring opportunities.
“My putting was okay, but I still holed some good putts,” said Heraty, whose second round was highlighted by an eagle on the par-5, 13th where he drilled a nine iron from 160 yards to within 10 feet.
India’s teenage Rayhan Thomas, holder of the Scottish U18 boys' open stroke-play championship,  carded a 69 to share the lead in the amateur division on four under with England’s Benjamin David, who returned a 70 for the second day in a row.
“I started off really well, making four birdies in a row, but three-putted three times on the back nine and that pretty much sums my up-and-down round,” said Thomas, a 16-year-old Dubai-based prodigy.

Among the notables, England’s Zane Scotland carded a level-par 72 to move into a tie for 15th while the experienced Andrew Marshall slipped to tied 40th on two over after a second-round 76.

European Father & Son Championship logo
Matthew Southgate and father
win 2016 European Father and Son Championship after Spain play-off

Cadiz, Andalucia: European Tour professional Matthew Southgate and his dad, Ian, won the 2016 European Father and Son golf championship (www.fatherandsongolf.co.uk) in dramatic style in Spain after a three-way play-off was required to determine the winners in the Scratch category.
Matthew, currently lying 48th in the European Tour Race to Dubai rankings, and five-handicapper Ian from England completed the 54 holes of competition in 13 under par after a storming 6 under par on the final day to catch the overnight leaders amateurs Gareth Bradley and his son Charles from Cheshire,  who let a four-shot lead slip, to go into a three-way tie including defending champions British teaching professional Gary Milliner and his German-born son, Justin.
After halving the first play-off hole, it was back down the 18th hole again for the three groups where Matthew eventually secured the victory by holing a 15 foot from off the fringe for par in front of a cheering crowd and Sky Sports cameras.
“I cannot believe that me and my dad are European Champions! What a dad! What a legend! What a day! This is such a special event and it means the world to me,” declared an emotional and tearful Matthew, who came fourth in the Irish Open on the European Tour in May and 12th in The Open Championship at Royal Troon in July.
This win comes just over a year after the 28-year-old overcame testicular cancer which put him out of the game for several months.

Meanwhile the Handicap category of the Championships was won by defending champions, the Milliners, in 13 under par, scoring 121 points in the two-ball, better-ball Stableford competition which, like the Scratch competition, was played over the championship courses at the Costa Ballena Ocean Golf Club and the Sherry Golf Jerez over three days (October 26 – 28).
Forty seven teams gathered in this picturesque corner of Cadiz, considered one of Spain’s top golfing destinations, to play golf and have some fun with the family. Golfers from America, Australia, Italy, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Czech Republic, Ireland and the UK contested the ninth staging of this popular event whilst family and friends also came along for the ride and to cheer on their team.
Several youngsters (a couple under five foot!) played in the event but it was Emily Jolly, a 22 handicapper from Germany, who made the history books when she became the first ever daughter to take part in the Championships. Just 13 years old, Emily played alongside her grandfather, Peter, whilst Emily’s father Andy, a British teaching pro in Germany, teamed up with his son, Miles.

The full leaderboard for the Championships can be found here:
