US PGA Tour report and scores

DAVIS TUMBLES, DE JONGE NEW

LEADER, ADAM SCOTT MISSES CUT

Londoner Brian Davis tumbled out of the lead in the second round of the Valspar Championship at Palm Harbour, Florida .. and Adam Scott missed his first cut since 2012 ... one of five Major winners now on the sidelines at Innisbrook.
Davis followed up his first-round 65 with a 76 for 141 and has dropped to T27, the same mark as Martin Laird who had a second-round 72,
New leader is veteran Zimbabwean Brendon de Jonge on 136 with rounds of 67 and 69.
There are five players in joint second place, a shot behind on 137 and another four on 138, including Ian Poulter.
Russell Knox, who started at the ninth still has to complete his round after a first-day 69.
The big names among those who missed the cut at 143 were
Padraig Harrington, a winner last week, Adam Scott, Justin Rose and Ernie Els - all of them Major winners.

 REPORT FROM JASON CROOK, Golf.com

Low scores didn’t come easy on a windy Friday at Innisbrook, but with 36 holes in the books, Jordan Spieth and Henrik Stenson sit just one shot behind a veteran Zimbabwean, Brendon de Jonge, who is chasing his first US PGA Tour victory at the Valspar:
What it means: In case the pressure of trying to win his first PGA Tour event wasn't enough for de Jonge, thanks to a late Friday push from Spieth and Stenson, he will have to try and hang on to his lead with two guys in the OWGR top 10 breathing down his neck.
Also in the mix is Ian Poulter, who is certainly eager for a shot at redemption after collapsing at the Honda two weeks ago, and Glover, the 2009 U.S. Open champ. De Jonge also doesn't exactly have history on his side as no 36-hole leader has gone on to win at Innisbrook since 2006.
Round of the day: Spieth put an exclamation point on his 4-under 67 with a 17-foot birdie putt from off the green at 18 and closed the gap between himself and the lead to one in the process. The 21-year-old phenom equaled the low round of the day with seven birdies to three bogeys as heavy wind gusts took really low scores completely out of play.
Best of the rest: De Jonge, who played in the early wave, birdied two of his final three holes to finish his second-round 69, then sat around as no one could successfully wrestle the lead away from him.  Ernst had the best chance, but the 24-year old Californian bogeyed three of his final five holes to fall into the group one behind at 5 under.
Biggest disappointment: After racing out ahead of the pack with a first-round 65, Brian Davis came back to down to Earth on Friday, bogeying five straight holes at one point en route to a 5-over 76. He enters Day 3 six shots off the lead.
World No. 4 Adam Scott also had a Friday to forget, carding a 4-over 75 to miss the cut by three shots, ending the PGA Tour’s longest consecutive made cuts streak at 45. It was Scott’s first missed cut since the 2012 HP Byron Nelson Championship.
Shot of the day: While it didn’t move him inside the cut line, Jonathan Byrd will always have the memory of his hole-in-one on the 211-yard 15th hole at Innisbrook.
Byrd’s ace comes on the heels of last week’s two holes-in-one in a half hour at Doral, and was the first at the Copperhead Course since 2004.
Biggest storyline going into Moving Day: He’s been close, most notably at last year’s Masters, but Jordan Spieth hasn’t won an official PGA Tour event since the 2013 John Deere Classic. Sure, the budding American star added Australian Open and World Challenge titles to his resume late in 2014, but it will be interesting to see how he handles the pressure of being part of a weekend mix with Augusta right around the corner, especially with the likes of Stenson, Poulter, Patrick Reed and Matt Kuchar in the mix.

2010 BRITISH BOYS' CHAMPION AT

BARASSIE LEADS TSHWANE OPEN

FROM EUROPEAN TOUR WEBSITE
Adrian Otaegui reaped the rewards of his mentoring from fellow Spaniard José María Olazábal by seizing the lead at the Tshwane Open and coming close to firing the European Tour's first round of 59.
Winner of the British boys' title at Kilmarnock Barassie in 2010, Otaegui, now 22, who played most of his junior golf at his local club in the northern Spain seaside resort of Fuenterrabia, where 2012 Ryder Cup Captain Olazábal was born and raised, went round in eight-under 62 today at Pretoria Country Club to sit pretty on 11 under par 129.

The youngster made his ninth birdie with an excellent putt at the 16th, meaning he needed to pick up two shots over the last two holes, both par fours, to create history on a sunny morning.
Otaegui came agonisingly close to a birdie at the 17th, chipping just to the right of the hole from the edge of the green, but could not manage the eagle he then required at the 514 yard last.
Indeed, he finished with a bogey, a sole blemish of his round, like on Thursday.
“It’s a tough par four and it's normally a par five,” he reflected.
Five of Otaegui's gains came consecutively from the eighth hole, a sequence he admitted being oblivious to.
“I was focused and didn’t know that I had made five birdies in a row,” he said.
“I was playing well and made a few putts, that’s all I was thinking about. The best golf is when you think as little as possible, and this was one of those days.”

Otaegui, who has moved to Biarritz but stays in touch with Olazábal, leads by two shots from South Africa's Merrick Bremner, who went round in four under 66, thanks to seven birdies.
Joint overnight leader David Horsey of England is one shot further back, after a mixed round of one under, alongside Italy's Edoardo Molinari plus South Africans Keith Horne and Trevor Fisher Jnr.
Thursday's other front runner Morten Ørum Madsen, who hit a hole-in-one at the eighth in his first round, recovered somewhat from two double bogeys in his opening four holes to finish on five under overall
Only two of the five Scots in the starting field made the cut at 140 and better. Craig Lee is T13 on 135 (67-68) and Scott Jamieson T47 on 139 (70-69)
Chris Doak (70-142), Richie Ramsay (72-144) and David Drysdale (76-149) are now on the sidelines

PAUL LAWRIE LEADS BY THREE

DESPITE 7 AT PENINA'S SHORT 16th

Paul Lawrie ran up a quadruple bogey 7 at the par-3 16th (225yd) today but still leads the Paul Lawrie Foundation Pro Series tournament by three strokes with one more round to go over the Henry Cotton Championship course, which is a par 73, at Penina Hotel and Golf Resort, pictured above, near Portimao on the Algarve, writes Colin Farquharson.
In a fairly strong breeze and with a couple of "testing" pin positions, Lawrie birdied the first, fourth, sixth, 10th, 14th, 15th and 17th in a three-under-par 70 for an eight-under tally of 138.
Neil Fenwick, who had a 69 for 141 is Lawrie's nearest challenger displacing Greig Hutcheon from second place. Hutcheon had a 73 for 143.

NE Alliance Handicap tables sponsored by WLM Golf

IT'S THE BATTLE OF THE DAVIDS FOR

CLASS 1 ORDER OF MERIT TITLE

   By COLIN FARQUHARSON
   Colin@scottishgolfview.com

It's table leader David Fleming (Portlethen) versus second-placed David Mackay (Hazlehead), the NE Alliance joint sec, for the £50 amateur voucher donated by teaching pro Willie McKenzie's WLM Golf Company to the winner of the Handicap Class 1 Order of Merit.
The competition closes with the second round of the Alliance championship at Craibstone Golf Club next Wednesday and Fleming's current total of 1100pt gives him a 75pt lead over Mackay.
Only the five (and ties) prizewinners in Class 1 earn weekly points as follows: 1st 250; 2nd 200; 3rd 150; 4th 100; 5th 50.
David Fleming is pictured on right and David Mackay is pictured below.
Plenty of scope there for Mackay to turn the tables in the Battle of the Davids. At the same time, the advantage lies with Fleming who
is in the driving seat.
The £50 amateur voucher will be presented in the Craibstone Golf Club's Brimmond Bistro clubhouse restaurant after all is done and dusted next Wednesday.
The Climber of the Penultimate Week, but too late to affect the top placings, was a 19-place leap by Robert O'Donnell (Oldmeldrum).
Good performance, Robert, but no cigar!
Many thanks to Willie McKenzie and the WLM Golf Company who also sponsor the £50 voucher for the winner of Class 2. We'll display that table tomorrow.
A lesson or two, maybe three or four, could transform your golf so that YOU could be challenging for the Class 1 or 2 Alliance titles next season. Willie McKenzie is just the man to put you on the right track. He can  be contacted on his mobile phone, 07904 756332 if you want to fix up some lessons. Willie can also be contacted through his website, WLMgolf.com

And thanks as usual to Joel Hopwood, the Royal Aberdeen GC Senior Assistant Professional, for (a) devising the Orders of Merit points schemes and (b) for updating the tables every week and passing them on for you to see on this webstine.
