WILL STILL BE A VICE CAPTAIN AT RYDER CUP

NOW STRICKER IS ADDED TO USA TOUR

DISABLED LIST: OUT UNTIL DECEMBER
FROM THE GOLF CHANNEL WEBSITE
Add another American name to the disabled list.
With his FedEx Cup playoff streak about to end, Steve Stricker told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel that multiple injuries will keep him out of competition for nearly the remainder of the year.
"Sounds like I've got a back and hip issue," Stricker wrote in a text. "Going to shut it down till December. Rest and rehab and then try to play and see how it goes."
The 47-year-old has been dealing with a hip injury for much of the summer, and two weeks ago was diagnosed with a torn labrum in his left hip. He also reportedly has herniated discs in both his back and neck.
Stricker tied for seventh earlier this month at the US PGA Championship, carding four rounds in the 60s, and despite making limited starts he finished the FedEx Cup regular season at No. 103 in points, qualifying for the postseason.
He withdrew from The Barclays, and his streak of making the Tour Championship every year since the inception of the play-off format in 2007 will end this year.
He is one of just three players to make the trip to East Lake each of the last seven years, along with Phil Mickelson and Hunter Mahan.
Two weeks ago Tom Watson named Stricker as his third and final Ryder Cup assistant captain, a role he will still fulfil despite the injuries.
Any chances of Stricker filling in as a last-minute substitute player at Gleneagles - Watson had joked during a post-PGA news conference that he told Stricker to "bring his clubs to Scotland" - appear to have decreased from slim to none.
Stricker is the latest high-profile American player to battle injury, with the Ryder Cup just six weeks away.
Matt Kuchar withdrew from the PGA Championship because of a back injury, while herniated discs in his neck will keep Jason Dufner sidelined indefinitely.
Last week, Tiger Woods announced he was withdrawing his name from consideration for a captain's pick after back injuries plagued him for much of the season.

BURNS, FERGUSON IN JACQUES LEGLISE TROPHY LINE-UPAND I BOYS' LINE-UP

FOUR SCOTS IN GB and I TEAM FOR ST

ANDREWS TROPHY MATCH

NEWS RELEASE FROM THE R and A
The Great Britain and Ireland teams to face the Continent of Europe in the St Andrews and Jacques Leglise trophies were announced by The R and A today.

The nine-man teams that will take part in the matches at Barsebäck in Sweden on 29 and 30 August are:

St Andrews Trophy

Ashley Chesters (Hawkstone Park)

Paul Dunne (Greystones)
Ryan Evans (Wellingborough)
Grant Forrest (Craigielaw)
Gary Hurley (West Waterford)
Nick Marsh (Huddersfield)
Bradley Neil (Blairgowrie)
Graeme Robertson (Glenbervie)
Jamie Savage (Cawder)

Jacques Leglise Trophy

George Burns (Williamwood)
Jamie Dick (Forest Hills)
Ewen Ferguson (Bearsden) – Captain
Tim Harry (Vale Resort)
Rowan Lester (Hermitage)
Haydn McCullen (Delamere Forest)
Bradley Moore (Kedleston Park)
Marco Penge (Golf at Goodwood)
Ashton Turner (Kenwick Park)

GB and I has enjoyed mixed fortunes in recent matches, having won last year’s Jacques Leglise Trophy at Royal St David’s but losing two successive St Andrews Trophy matches to the Continent of Europe at Castelconturbia in Italy in 2010 and Portmarnock in 2012.

The 12 ½ - 11 ½ victory for Alexis Godillot’s team in the St Andrews Trophy in Ireland two years ago was the Continent of Europe’s fifth overall compared to 24 wins for GB and I.

Scotland’s Graeme Robertson is the only survivor from that match but recent wins for Ashley Chesters in the European amateur championship, Bradley Neil in the British amateur championship and Grant Forrest in the St Andrews Links Trophy will give GB and I, captained once again by Welshman Nigel Edwards, added confidence that they can regain the trophy.

GB and I will be looking to defend the Jacques Leglise Trophy after their 15-9 triumph in Wales last year. It was their 36th win overall compared to ten for the Continent of Europe.

Four members of that team will tee it up in Sweden this year: Scotland’s Ewen Ferguson, who will captain the side, and England’s Ashton Turner, Marco Penge and Bradley Moore.
Ferguson is on form, having reached the semi-finals in his defence of the trophy at last week’s British boys amateur championship at Prestwick and winning the Scottish boys' open stroke play and Scottish boys' match-play titles this season
Moore won the Irish boys' amateur open championship in June while his compatriot Haydn McCullen won the Carris Trophy earlier this month and Ireland’s Rowan Lester lost out by one hole in the 36-hole final of the British boys amateur championship

The format for the St Andrews Trophy and Jacques Leglise Trophy matches will be four foursomes ties each morning and eight singles matches each afternoon on Friday 29 and Saturday 30 August 2014.

BID TO REGAIN EISENHOWER TROPHY IN JAPAN

NEIL, FORREST, ROBB SCOTLAND'S

TRIO FOR WORLD TEAM CH/SHIP
 NEWS RELEASE FROM SGU
The trio of Bradley Neil, Grant Forrest and Chris Robb have been chosen to represent Scotland at next month’s World Amateur Team Championship in Japan, bidding to emulate the historic success of their countrymen in 2008.

Staged in the city of Karuizawa in Nagano Prefecture from 11 – 14 September, the biennial 72-hole strokeplay event is one of the most prestigious in amateur golf and the three Scots will be aiming to add The Eisenhower Trophy to the European Nations Cup won in March in Sotogrande.

Six years ago in Adelaide, Australia, Scotland were on top of the world after brilliantly claiming a first-ever world title victory thanks to the endeavours of Wallace Booth, Gavin Dear and Callum Macaulay as George Crawford captained his side to an emphatic nine-stroke victory over a USA side featuring Rickie Fowler and Billy Horschel.

The Scots also put up a stout defence in 2010, with James Byrne, Michael Stewart and Ross Kellett finishing fifth, before there was disappointment in Turkey two years ago as the team shared 44th.
Other notable recent winners include Joost Luiten (Netherlands, 2006) and Romain Wattel (France, 2010).

It is now the turn of Neil (Blairgowrie), Forrest (Craigielaw) and Robb (Meldrum House) to go for glory, with Neil earning automatic selection as the top-ranked Scot on the World Amateur Golf Ranking at No. 7 and Forrest and Robb, 15th and 85th respectively, earning the two selectors picks.

Having posted seven top-10 finishes already in 2014, Neil highlighted his young career by becoming the first Scot in a decade to win The Amateur Championship at Royal Portrush in June.

Former Scottish Boys champion Neil, who also won the key play-off for Scotland’s Nations Cup success, went on to play in last month’s Open Championship before earning a place in Europe’s Junior Ryder Cup side for the contest against the US over his home course in late September.

Forrest, the 2012 Scottish Amateur champion, has continued his form in 2014, with the University of San Diego student notching a third win on the US college circuit.

On his return to UK soil, Forrest claimed one of the most prestigious amateur titles when he emerged triumphant in a play-off against team-mate Neil in the St Andrews Links Trophy in June, before helping Europe win the Palmer Cup. Forrest is also a past winner of the Scottish Boys and Scottish Under-16s titles.

Robb, meanwhile, has enjoyed a purple patch this summer, claiming three titles on the SGU Men’s Order of Merit, the East of Scotland Championship, Cameron Corbett Vase and the SGU’s flagship event, the Fairstone Scottish Amateur, where he defeated Graeme Robertson in the final.

The former Boys cap made his Men’s debut in last week’s Home Internationals, building on a year which saw him graduate from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with All-American honours following a closing round of 64 in the NCAA Championships.

The Prince Hotel Resort’s Iriyama and Oshitate courses will be used for the World Amateur Team Championship in Japan, the country having previously served as tournament host in 1962.

The event is contested over 72 holes in stroke play format – two scores from three count for the team each day – with the Scots seeking to shine.

National Coach Ian Rae, who will accompany the players in Japan, said: “We have a really strong team and they are capable of doing very well in The Eisenhower Trophy this year. The trio selected are all good at shooting low numbers when required.

“A lot of very good players have just failed to make the team and this demonstrates the strength of the team and the form of those chosen.

“The performances of all three players selected speak for themselves, especially those of Bradley and Grant, with Chris catching our eye throughout this season, having finished his time in the US strongly and then winning three times domestically, notably the Fairstone Scottish Amateur.”

Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods have both featured in winning Eisenhower Trophy sides in the past, while Rory McIlroy, Luke Donald, Francesco Molinari and Martin Kaymer have also competed.

The Scotland team, sponsored by Aberdeen Asset Management and TaylorMade-adidas Golf, is:

·         Grant Forrest (Craigielaw), 21

·         Bradley Neil (Blairgowrie), 18

·         Chris Robb (Meldrum House), 23

Bubba gifts new car, truck to caddie as bonus

Bubba Watson's blow-ups at caddie Ted Scott have been, how should we say ... well documented. Not as well documented are the ridiculous bonuses Bubba The Boss gives to his employees.

In circulation is a tweet sent out by Scott, thanking Bubba and his wife Angie for upgrading the Scott family's vehicles.
They are now the proud new owners of a white Lexus luxury sedan and a black Toyota pick-up truck, thanks to #teamWatson.
If this is the reward for showing up, keeping up, shutting up and taking a bit of a verbal lashing now and again, well then, sign me up.
