CHRIS DOAK, MATTEO MANASSERO AMONG LATEST CALLAWAY SIGNINGS

Matteo Manassero and Scot Chris Doak are among the latest players to be signed up by Callaway Golf.

In the past few weeks, Callaway has added FedEx Cup champion Henrik Stenson and two-time US PGA Tour winner Harris English to its stable. Now, it also has Manassero, pictured, a 20-year-old Italian who has won four times on the European Tour, including last year’s BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, the flagship event on the Euro circuit.
“After testing lots of different products, I am very happy to be joining Callaway and I am really excited to use their whole range of equipment,” he said in a release.
“I’m really impressed with everything so far and the Callaway Team has been fantastic. I’m looking forward to starting the 2014 season with my new clubs at the Volvo Golf Champions this week.”
Since winning last May at the BMW PGA, Manassero has recorded just one top 10 in his last 17 starts.

Other Callaway signings announced this week include US PGA Tour players John Rollins and Matt Every, European Tour player Chris Doak, pictured right, from Scotland and 2013 Asian Tour money winner Kiradech Aphibarnrat.
Doak was Scottish PGA champion in 2010, and won the Northern Open in 2005 and 2008.

2014 EUROPRO TOUR DATES AND VENUES ANNOUNCED

OLIVER FARR: Winner of last year's PGA EuroPro Tour Championship

NEWS RELEASE
The UK’s leading golf tour is set for its best ever season after the PGA EuroPro Tour launched its greatest line-up of courses to date. European golf’s third-tier tour will visit some of the best courses across England, Scotland and Ireland in 2014 and in a Ryder Cup year starts in style at a former Ryder Cup host venue – the Brabazon at The Belfry, from April 15-17.
As part of a new strategic partnership with De Vere, the tour will also bring Europe’s best young golfers to The Carrick on Loch Lomond (July 9-11) and Slaley Hall (August 13-15).
After starting at The Belfry the tour returns to Montrose Golf Links. The historic course made a successful debut on the PGA EuroPro Tour in 2013 and will again welcome the tour to Scotland’s east coast from April 29-May 1.
Longhirst Hall stages event number three from May 21-23, and for the first time the tour will play on the Dawson Course at the Northumberland venue. The tour then heads to long-standing host Burhill (May 29-31), where the New Course is often praised as one of the best on tour.
Event five sees a return to The Astbury in Shropshire from June 11-13. The course earned rave reviews from players after making its EuroPro debut last season.
From Shropshire the tour travels to Wiltshire for a maiden appearance at Cumberwell Park, described as one of southern England’s best new courses. The tournament will take place from June 18-20.
The short trip to Frilford Heath’s Blue Course in Oxfordshire follows from June 25-27.
The tour stays in Scotland after its week at The Carrick to play at Royal Burgess - The Royal Burgess Golfing Society of Edinburgh from July 16-18.
The final event of July sees a trip to Ireland and the third consecutive visit to the stunning and popular Concra Wood in Castleblayney from July 23-25.
Moor Allerton was rated as one of 2013’s best new events and the tour returns to the Leeds club from August 6-8, before heading to Northumberland to play Slaley Hall’s Priestman Course.
Last year’s Tour Championship hosts Prince’s stages event number 13 from August 19-21 on their Shores and Dunes course, before the tour heads to The Oxfordshire at Thame from August 27-29. The regular season concludes back in Scotland, where Mar Hall will host the tour for a third successive year following which the top 60 on the Order of Merit will be invited to play the Tour Championship.
PGA EuroPro Tour Director of Operations Daniel Godding said: “I am thrilled with the 15 courses we have lined up for this summer’s Tour. We have courses with a great pedigree of holding major tournaments on the European Tour and the Ryder Cup, as well as some of the best new courses the UK and Ireland have to offer.”
A two-hour highlights package from every event will be broadcast on Sky Sports HD four times within two weeks of the tournament, and will later be available on the tour’s YouTube channel.
Details of the 2014 Tour Championship will be announced in the spring. Entries for the 2014 PGA EuroPro Tour Qualifying School have now opened.
Qualifying School takes place over two stages, with players choosing from De Vere Slaley Hall, Formby Hall, Woldingham and The Players Club for their 36-hole first stage (March 26-27) before the successful golfers (maximum field 240) progress to second and final stage, with 54 holes played over the Red and Blue Courses at Frilford Heath
The field will be cut to the top 80 after 36 holes with the qualifiers playing a final 18 holes over the Blue Course.
Entries for the Qualifying School will only be accepted from players who become members of the PGA EuroPro Tour (annual fee £250 in 2013).
Entry fee to the Q School costs a further £145 (that's what it was in 2013).
Amateurs with a handicap of 2 or less are allowed to enter the Q School and retain their amateur status.
The entry fee for each event on the tournament schedule costs a player £275.
Each event is over 54 holes with a cut to the top 50 and ties after 36 holes.
The minimum prize fund is £40,000. The winner of a tournament receives £10,000.
The top five in the Order of Merit at the end of season are promoted to the Challenge Tour. Further details can be found http://www.europrotour.com/

SIMPSON, SPIETH, DUSTIN JOHNSON SHARE THIRD-ROUND LEAD ON HAWAII

FROM THE US PGA TOUR WEBSITE
Webb Simpson shares the third-round lead with Jordan Spieth and Dustin Johnson at 14-under-par 205 in the Hyundai Tournament of Champions at Kapalua, Hawaii.

Simpson might have pulled out of the tournament to be with his caddie if he were not on an island in the middle of the Pacific.
Reassurance came from Paul Tesori, his caddie and close friend whose new-born son is in intensive care in a Florida hospital
"Paul sent me a text this morning, just told me he loved me and wanted to go out and fight as hard as I would any other day," Simpson said Sunday after doing just that.
Simpson made four birdies in a five-hole stretch on the back nine at Kapalua for a 5-under 68, giving him a share of the lead with defending champion Dustin Johnson and Jordan Spieth going into the final round Monday on the Plantation Course.
On a glorious day of sun and surf, Simpson played with a heavy heart.
His caddie and friend, Paul Tesori, was in a hospital in Florida with new-born son Isaiah in intensive care.
Simpson said the child suffered a seizure shortly after he was born with indications of an infection in his brain. One of Tesori's best friends in the business is Ted Scott, the caddie for Bubba Watson, who is filling in this week as Simpson's caddie.
Tesori tweeted that he tuned into the telecast at Kapalua in time to see his son's name on Scott's hat.
"I felt like we were out there playing for Isaiah," Simpson said. "Paul needs something to watch there in the hospital. It's been a long few days, so hopefully, we gave him something good to see on TV. But it was tough. I was thinking about him a lot out there."
Winning on Monday won't be easy.
Simpson was the first to reach 14-under 205, thanks to a terrific par save on the 17th and a long two-putt par on the 18th hole, a par 5 with a front hole location that made it difficult to get close because the green and the grain move sharply away.
Spieth, the 20-year-old Texan who looks just as good as he did during a sensational rookie season, got back into the mix with a tough birdie on the par-3 eighth and capped off a 69 with a 15-foot birdie putt on the 17th and a long two-putt for par on the 18th.
Spieth won the John Deere Classic last year. This is his first time with at least a share of the 54-hole lead.
"This is a new position for me," Spieth said. "I've never slept on a 54-hole lead. I'm excited about it and it's going to be a fun time tomorrow to get to play with Webb for the third time this week."
The most intimidating figure is Johnson, whose power is suited for the Plantation Course. Johnson also had a 69 and was disappointed at playing the par 5s in 3-under for the day. One of them was a tap-in eagle on the par-5 ninth. But he had to settle for pars on the long holes on the back nine.
One shot hit the front of the green and rolled off the putting surface on the 15th and into a valley. On the 18th, his 4-iron came up short and left him a pitch that had to be perfect. It was a few inches from that. The pitch didn't have enough roll to glide with the grain and left him a 15-foot birdie chance that he missed.
"Other than that, I played pretty good," Johnson said.
No matter. He's still tied for the lead, still in good position to start the new year the same way he did in 2013.
Zach Johnson, who had a three-shot lead going into the third round, couldn't make anything and shot a 74. His only birdie was a two-putt on the par-5 fifth hole. Still, he was only two shots behind at 12-under 207 heading into the Monday finish.
Instead of building his lead, Zach Johnson effectively gave more players in this winners-only field a chance.
Gary Woodland (67), US PGA champion Jason Dufner (69), Brandt Snedeker (69) and Kevin Streelman, who had a 33 on the back nine to salvage a 70, were within three shots of the lead. Masters champion Adam Scott wasted a chance to join them.
Scott was at 11-under and in range of the par-5 15th until he smothered a long iron into the hazard and had to scramble for a bogey. He missed a 7-foot birdie putt on the next hole, missed the green and took bogey on the 17th and closed with a birdie for a 69. He still was only four shots behind.
Simpson has made 12 of his 18 birdies this week on the back nine, and his hopes are to stay in the mix and work one more day of magic.
The most intriguing character in this mix is Spieth, who a year ago didn't have status on any tour in the world. A couple of good finishes on tour through sponsor exemptions helped secure his card. He won at the John Deere Classic, finished No. 7 in the FedExCup, played in The Presidents Cup team and came into the week at No. 22 in the Official World Golf Ranking.
This figures to be a big test -- a share of the lead, contending with the defending champion and a major champion.
Spieth figures he cleared a big hurdle Sunday when he didn't lose patience over a few bad breaks. He thought back to last year, when he struggled in the third round. He wasted good birdie chances on the 15th and 16th and was starting to run hot.
"But I got to 17 tee box and thankfully, that view kind of calmed me down a little bit and I was able to snag a birdie there," he said.
Spieth figures to need more of those Monday, as will everyone else who wants to open the year with a win and guarantee a return to Maui next year.
