BANCHORY MAN FACING FIGHT TO BEAT HALFWAY CUT
JAMES BYRNE UNDER PRESSURE AT
ASIAN TOUR FINAL Q SCHOOL
Northern Open champion James Byrne from Banchory will be under pressure to make the halfway cut after scoring a four-over-par 71 at Springfield Royal Country Club, Thailand in the first round of the Asian Tour Final Qualifying School.
Byrne, was three over par after only two holes. He ran up a triple bogey 7 at the second. Birdies at the third, long fifth and eighth, offset by bogeys at the short fourth and sixth got him to the turn in two-over-par 37.
The inward half saw no upturn in his fortunes with his only additional birdie, at the 13th, being cancelled out by bogeys at the 10th, 15th and short 17th.
Leading the field by three shots with a 63 is Nathan Holman (Australia).
There will be a cut to the top 80 and ties in a starting field of 238 after the second round.
