Aberdeen's Greg McBain (Gamola Golf) continued his run of good form at Oban today (Friday) to share the halfway lead with Stephen Gray (Hayston) in the £15,000 Glencruitten Golf Club 36-hole pro-am at the West of Scotland venue.
Over a par-62 course of under 5,000yd, McBain and Gray (pictured right) both shot two-under 60s to lead by one shot from Jonathan Lomas (Caprington), Robert Arnott (Bishopbrigg) and Jason McCreadie (Buchanan Castle).
The stage is set for a birdie/eagle shoot-out over the final holes in the chase for the £1,800 first prize. The top five finishers after two rounds will earn five-figure pay-outs.
McBain had three 2s and seven 3s on his card in a haul of five birdies, offset by three bogeys, in two halves of 30.
Gray had two 2s, four birdies in all but two bogeys.
Arnott have five birdies in seven holes from the third to the ninth, reaching the turn in 28.
"The guys treat this as a fun weekend over a short, undulating course and they all enjoy shooting low scores," said Tournament Director Roy Murra
Heather MacRae (pictured left) was not going to let "the guys" have all the fun - the Gleneagles Hotel staff pro shot a 64 to be tied 10th in a biggest field with a round to go.
The first-day team format of one pro with one amateur saw McBain and host club official Declan Currie, who plays off eight, win the 18-hole event with a 10-under-par net 52.
Another local amateir Ian McCuish had a hole in one at the 15th.
