Bon-Accord veteran Raymond Cheyne today added to his collection of Aberdeen Links golf championships' titles. Winner over the years twice of the main event, the Links scratch championship, and once in the low-handicap champion,ship, Raymond has now won the Links seniors' title.
He overcame a two-stroke starting deficit to overhaul playing partner Ally Fiddes (Northern) over the second and final round with a very good round of 70 for a total of 145.
Fiddes was runner-up on 147 (73-74) with John Murphy (Northern) third on 154 (77-77)
Northern's Jim Muir, playing off 13, won the Fred Sutherland Shield with a net total of 135, finishing a shot ahead of Bill McKay (Bon Accord) (19) with D J Hampton (Caledonian) (13) third on 137.
The Vic Bon Trophy for the over-70s was won by George Forbes (Caledonian) who, playing off 10, came storming through the field with a net 62 for a total of 137 to take the title from clubmate E Mitchell (19) who finished second on 138, and A W Mathieson (Bon-Accord) (17), also on 138 but with the poorer second round.
