GREG McBAIN (handicap now +4)
TO TURN PRO AS ROYAL
DORNOCH ASSISTANT

NORTH CLUB NEWS FROM ROBIN WILSON

Royal Dornoch Golf Club professional Andrew Skinner’s search for a new young assistant ended on his doorstep when he took on Highland College student Greg McBain.
Aberdonian McBain (23), pictured right, will complete his golf management degree course at the Highland College in Dornoch within the next two weeks but before signing his professional forms he is leading the Highland College team in the British universities championships at Hoylake this week.
Greg ended his amateur career with the lowest gross score, a level par 70, in the Burghfield tournament last Saturday.
McBain, who spent a couple of successful years at a junior college in the United States, was a member of Newmachar Golf Club, where he played team golf for the North-east. After Saturday's round of 70, his handicap dropped to +4.
ROYAL DORNOCH PAIR OFF TO
SOUTH KOREA

Royal Dornoch club champions Jimmy Gunn and Kevin Matheson have only been named as reserves in the club team travelling to Invergordon this weekend to make a defence of the Dornoch Firth League Targe.
Jimmy and Kevin left last weekend to represent the club in the World Club Championships at the Nine Bridges Golf Resort in South Korea.
It is not expected they will return in time to play any games at Invergordon. This is Kevin’s second trip to Nine Bridges where a selection of the world’s top 100 clubs/courses are invited to send their champions to compete on an annual basis. Kevin and Chris Mailley were in South Korea in 2002.
The Royal Dornoch team for Invergordon is: Bert Nicholson, Alex MacDonald, Chris Mailley, John Shepherd, Daniel Holden, Colin Murray and Brian Urquhart.
Representing Royal Dornoch in the Senior Northern Counties cup at Nairn Dunbar next week are:
Roly Bluck, Bert Nicholson, Alan Ramsay and Grant Shannon. Their opponents in round one are the Elgin second string.
