USA WINS PING JUNIOR SOLHEIM CUP 13-11 OVER KING'S COURSE

Team USA held off a spirited fightback from Team Europe to claim their fourth consecutive victory in the PING Junior Solheim Cup match over the King's Course at Gleneagles.
The visitors took a 7½-4½ lead into Wednesday’s singles session after drawing the foursomes 3-3 and then convincingly winning the four-balls 4½-1½ on Tuesday, and closed out the win when Brianna Navarrosa beat Mimi Rhodes by one hole
Earlier in the day, Scot Hannah Darling, out first, grabbed a half point against Lucy Li, and wins for Annabell Fuller, Amalie Leth-Nissen and Pia Babnik, who birdied four straight holes to win 2 and 1, narrowed the gap.
However, Rose Zhang stemmed the tide for the Americans in match two, and triumphs for Amanda Sambach, Briana Chacon and then Navarrosa took the USA to the all-important 12 points needed to retain the trophy, and Christine Wang made it 13 points when she beat Paula Shulz-Hanssen in match 10.
American Captain Mary Bea Porter-King said: “‘It was quite the victory, very close, it went up and down all day, they were ahead, then behind. I’m exhausted and I didn’t hit a shot.
“I’m very proud of my team, there wasn’t a whole lot I could do to help them, these young ladies are so talented, on both sides. I am so impressed to see the golf swings and how they play the game, which makes me feel good about the future of the game.”
Mickey Walker, the European Captain, said: “I’m incredibly proud of the European team. They’re very, very talented and we’ve had a wonderful time here. It’s been just amazing, one of the best experiences of my life.
“I think we were good enough to win, but we just missed out by virtue of a poor session in the after yesterday. That’s what did for us. If you took the singles as a standalone competition, we won today.
“But we knew we needed to get eight and a half points and we came up just short. It’s wrong to mention individuals because we really are a team, but Pia Babnik is the first ever junior to play in this from Slovenia and beat Rachel Heck today – an incredible scalp. Rachel’s one of the best American golfers and Pia is relatively inexperienced. The same for Lucie Malchirand beating Alexa Pano in the final match.
“So it augurs very well for the future, and a lot of our team will still be young enough to play in two years’ time.”

Amanda Mayne wins English Senior

Women's County Champion of

Champions title at Woodhall Spa

Somerset champion Amanda Mayne is this year's English Senior Women’s County Champion of Champions.
She followed in the footsteps of inaugural champion Alison Kelly from Gloucestershire by carding two rounds of 79 to claim a three-shot victory on 12-over par 158 at this year’s event at Woodhall Spa in Lincolnshire.

Mayne’s nearest rival was Kent’s Kim Morris who opened with an 82 but then fired a closing 79 to finish alone in second place on 161.

2018 champion Kelly was third on the defence of her title after posting an 80 and an 83 while first-round leader Janet Melville from Lancashire dropped to a share of fourth place with Norfolk’s Tracey Williamson after adding an 87 to her opening round of 77. Williamson carded two rounds of 82.

Mayne’s victory came 12 months after finishing tied fifth, seven shots behind Kelly at the inaugural English Senior Women’s County Champion of Champions event over the Green course at Frilford Heath. Melville was tied-seventh at that event.

NORTH-EAST ALLIANCE

SEAN LAWRIE WINS BY TWO SHOTS WITH

A SEVEN-UNDER 65 AT WINDY NEWMACHAR

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Only four players broke 70 in today's (WED) North-east Golfers' Alliance in which a field of 102 had to contend with a strong wind and a tough course.
There were 20 No Returns, almost a fifth of the field, one of the highest ever one-event NR totals in the history of the Alliance, confirming the view that the Newmachar Hawkshill track is the toughest on the NE Alliance circuit and one of the toughest in Scotland.
Sean Lawrie (Paul Lawrie Golf Centre) was the winner by two strokes with a very good round of 65, finishing two shots ahead of Sam Locke (Paul Lawrie Golf Centre) and Paul Lawrie (Gleneagles).
Sean had a bogey-free, seven-birdie round with halves of 31 (five under par) and 34 (two under).

His figures were:
OUT: 4 4 3  4 4 2  3 4 3 - 31
    IN: 4 3 4  4 4 3  5 4 - 34

Sam crammed four birdies into a five-hole span from the short sixth to the par-4 10th: 2 4 4 2 3

Paul also kept a bogey off his card (32-35) while Sam had halves of 33-34 with one bogey
