Following on from today's North-east Alliance Pro-Am Event at a very welcoming Portlethen Golf Club, presentations were made to the 2018-19 Championship prizewinners.

First round was held at Duff House Royal golf course and the second round at Portlethen Golf Club.   Both courses were set up well to challenge strong fields, thanks to the efforts of course managers at both locations.

Points of interest
The Uniroyal Quaich was first played for in 1935 which was not long after the North-east Alliance was formed, some 80 plus years ago and still going strong.

J K Hall was a staunch supporter of the Alliance and a member of Royal Aberdeen Golf Club.

"Chapper" Thomson was the father of Muriel, erstwhile professional at Portlethen Golf Club, and secretary of the North-east Alliance.

Major Bill Graham was a real major (retired) in the army and secretary to the North-east Alliance for some time and he was mainly responsible for an increase in the number of competitions from one a month to one every week.
History suggests that the Major asked to be referred to as "Major" when playing in Alliance matches to which Chapper retorted:  "Are you here to play golf or play (sojers) soldiers?"

The Veteran's Pot should be self-evident but perhaps the age criteria need to be reconsidered, thanks to all of our members, thankfully, living ever longer.

Thanks go to Colin Farquharson for this interesting insight to the history of our Alliance which is still going strong today.  Any variation from reality is entirely down to Colin!

SCOTT HENRY WINS OVER JUBILEE COURSE WITH A THREE-UNDER 69

By JOHN HENRY
A great day at the home of golf playing the Jubilee course, St Andrews had by all. Mild temperatures and a stiff breeze made some testing conditions for play.
Having two former British amateur champions in the field, Bradley Neil and Garrick Porteous, was great but to have them play with SGU invitee Connor Wilson was even better for the development of his game to pick the brains of these now Challenge Tour players!
The course was in fantastic condition and the hospitality before and after the round was excellent in the clubhouse and at starters' hut.
The winner with a score of 69 (3 under par) was Scott Henry who has just came back from a long stint in the Middle East playing on the Mena Tour gearing up to start his Challenge Tour season at the end of April .
Massive thanks as always to our sponsors Ellmoll Builders and Golf Finance Ltd.
Next event is on Tuesday, March 26 at Longniddry. First tee time is a noon. ALL welcome .
