Helen Lowe on a high again at
English senior women's
amateur
championship
Former champion Helen Lowe, pictured by Leaderboard Photography, leads the qualifiers for the match-play stages of the English Senior Women’s Amateur at Enville Golf Club, Staffordshire.
Lowe, from Scraptoft in Leicestershire, was the 2015 champion – and followed up last year by winning the English senior stroke-play title.
She worked her way into top spot today with her second round of two-over 74, and heads a leaderboard which is packed with pedigree.
Second place went to Cheshire’s Caroline Berry (Bromborough), another past senior amateur champion. She just pipped Hertfordshire’s Jackie Foster (Bishops Stortford), who has twice won the stroke play.
First-round leader Gillian Mellor (Prestbury, Cheshire) qualified in fourth place and defending champion Aileen Greenfield, came through in 10th spot.
Staffordshire’s senior internationals, Sue Spencer (Whittington Heath and Julie Brown (Trentham), both qualified comfortably among the leading 32 players who contest the match play in the Wendy Taylor Salver.
In the over-60s Ann Howard Trophy, the top seed is Jayne Fletcher (Whittington Heath), while defending champion Carol Wild (Notts Ladies) was second. The top 16 go forward to the match-play.
