BLAIRGOWRIE U.S. JUNIOR INVITATIONAL JULY 8-10

BANNERMAN MEDIA RELEASE
THE PERTHSHIRE golf club which hosted the 2014 Junior Ryder Cup is rolling out the welcome mat for star-studded US state teams.
The “Blairgowrie US Junior Invitational” will be played over the Rosemount and Lansdowne courses from July 8-10, with six American teams joined by a Perth and Kinross select and a Scottish team supported by the Barrie Douglas Foundation featuring top 20  Order of Merit players Sean Logue, Cameron Gallagher, Liam Waldron, Connor Wilson, Aaron Hall and Dean Walsh
The tournament, which will provide spin-off benefits for the local economy, builds on the success of a match last year between Blair youngsters and a touring side from Arizona.
Neil Wilkie, junior convener at Blairgowrie Golf Club, explained: “It has all developed from discussions following last year’s successful match with the team from Arizona led by coach Brian Volmer hosted so well by Blairgowrie.
“This is the big event on their tour but the Americans will also be playing in the St Andrews and North Berwick areas. It’s another feather in the cap for Blairgowrie.
“This year we will have six-person under 18 teams competing, six from America and two from Scotland, which will be a Perth and Kinross select managed by Bradley Neil’s dad Rodney and a Scottish side supported by the Barrie Douglas Foundation and selected by Spencer Henderson, the national junior coach.
“We have four state teams from Utah, Illinois, Arizona and Colorado and composite state teams featuring players from Ohio, Iowa, Florida and Missouri.
“The tournament will be played in a Ryder Cup style format.
“The quality is pretty impressive, with five US state champions in the visiting party.
“It is about building bridges between quality young golfers here and in the USA. There may well be some of our youngsters thinking seriously about college scholarships in America and this is a chance to meet potential compatriots and sound them out about the best golf schools.
The Barrie Douglas Foundation Scotland team is being backed by Perth firm A and B Taxis and the Salutation Hotel.
Jimmy Turriff, A and B Taxis director and a club member, said: “Everyone on the local and national golf scene seemed to know Barrie and we are delighted to support the Scottish team taking part in the Invitational. I can see this going from strength to strength in years to come."
Gordon Paterson, manager of the Salutation Hotel, said: “We are looking forward to hosting the Foundation golf team and wish them every success.”
Neil added: “It’s all mushroomed very quickly so it is very exciting and daunting at the same time.
“There are also real spin-off benefits for the local economy. The US visiting party including coaches and parents will extend to around 70 people and they are staying locally in Blairgowrie and Alyth.”

Day One report
Danish duo Mark Flindt Haastrup and Joachim B. Hansen shone in their homeland as they edged into a tie for the lead alongside Switzerland’s Marco Iten at the end of round one at the Made in Denmark Challenge presented by Ejner Hessel.
Haastrup and Hansen grasped the home advantage as they shot seven under par rounds of 64 to set the pace at a sun-kissed Himmerland Golf and Spa Resort.
Hansen recorded his lowest opening round of the season as he goes in search of his second  European Challenge Tour title in as many months, following his victory at the Turkish Airlines Open in April.
Fellow Dane Haastrup carded an incredible eight birdies in his first ten holes to give him a chance of his first victory on Europe’s top development Tour since the Dubliner Challenge ten years ago.
Iten, who has his sights set on a debut Challenge Tour victory, joined the pair at the top of the leaderboard as he also shot his lowest round of the season.
With his knowledge of the Backtee Course at Himmerland Golf and Spa Resort, 34 year old Haastrup is excited by his chances.
“I’m ecstatic. It was a lot of fun out there,” he said. “The knowledge of this course means a lot because I’ve been in most of the good and bad places, so I know what to be careful of. A normal 30th place could turn into a 20th place and maybe a fifth you could turn into a third by knowing your way around the course.
“It feels crazy when you make so many birdies because nothing really goes wrong. I played really solid. I didn’t hit the longest drives but kept the ball in play. When I got in a little bit of trouble I hit a good shot and then made a long putt. Even when I missed the green on the tenth I chipped in, so I could only laugh with the other guys as well – it was a lot of fun.
“If I can shoot seven under par for every round then I think I’ll be okay, but I have to be realistic. It’s a really good round and I know that the course can bite you. I need to stay patient and play to my knowledge of the course and then we’ll see.”
Hansen will become the new leader on the Road to Ras Al Khaimah with a top 20 finish this week, and the 27 year old is on the right track, especially after he birdied six out of seven holes around the turn.
“That run was really important. I started my round on the tenth and from the 14th through to the second hole on my back nine it was a good stretch with the putter,” he said.
“It was great. I played decent and was quite solid today. I held a lot of good putts out there. I had a few mistakes, a few flyers from the semi rough that cost me a bit, but overall it was a great round.”
Northern Ireland’s Dermot McElroy sits one behind the leading trio while Chilean Matias Calderon and Lukas Nemecz of Austria both carded bogey-free rounds to share fifth place on five under par.

Open La Pinetina
Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by AON
Golf La Pinetina (Milan, Italy)
27-29 June 2018

Shadbolt leads Alps Tour event at 12 under par

England's Tom Shadbolt is the sole leader of the Memorial Giorgio
Bordoni by AON at La Pinetina after finishing round 2 at -6 for
a total score of -12.

He is followed by Guido Migliozzi (ITA) at -11 total. Tied for
third place at -10 total are Louis Cohen Boyer (FRA) and Lars Keunen (Netherlands)

Andrea Saracino (ITA), Alexandre Daydou (FRA) and amateur
Jérémy  Gandon (FRA) turned in the best card of the day, a 63 (-7).

« I felt good, I felt good all week to be honest, I played some
real nice golf, drove the ball well, I’m feeling good » Shadbolt said.
« They’re a lot of opportunities if you play smart with a wedge
and I’ve done that quite a lot this week » he explained.
« Tomorrow, I’m just going to play my own game, see what
happens. I’ve been in this position before and I could not finish
it off. I shot 61 around here before, I think it’s still the course
record, it’s still a goal of mine to try to break that anyway, I
still have one more day to try and do it » he concluded.

« Today was a good day for my game, not very good for my
putting. But it’s alright, 3 under par is not a bad score » said Migliozzi

52 players made the cut set at +1 and will play the final round
 tomorrow (Friday).

Bradley Dredge edges ahead in France with a 67
Bradley Dredge battled the windy conditions at Le Golf National to edge clear of Ryder Cup players Graeme McDowell and Andy Sullivan in the opening round of the HNA Open de France – the European Tour’s third Rolex Series event of 2018.
Dredge posted the best round of his season so far with a closing 66 at last week's BMW International Open in Germany, and he followed that with a first round four under par 67 in France.
The Welshman began his round by dropping a shot on the tenth hole, but that was his only bogey of the day as he posted birdies on the 13th, 14th, 17th, third and fifth holes for a one shot advantage.
Two-time Open de France Champion McDowell once again showed his affinity for the Albatros Course that will host The 2018 Ryder Cup in three months’ time, firing seven birdies in his round of 68.
The Northern Irishman, who shares second place with Englishman Sullivan, will be one of Thomas Bjørn’s five Vice Captains in September, and another, Sweden’s Robert Karlsson, also features on the leaderboard following a two under par round of 69 which included a double bogey six on the opening hole.
World Number Two Justin Thomas, who looks set to be part of the United States team at The Ryder Cup, opened his debut in the HNA Open de France, and the Rolex Series, with a round of 70, which also included a double bogey on the fifth hole. He is joined on one under par by Jon Rahm, the only player to so far win two Rolex Series events, whose round included four birdies, one bogey and a double bogey on the 15th hole.
Defending champion Tommy Fleetwood, however, has some work to do on Friday to make the cut after starting his defence with a three over par 74.
Player Quotes
Bradley Dredge: “It was getting tougher and tougher out there. Obviously delighted with that score to start the tournament off.
“Got off to a bad start on ten with a poor tee shot and made bogey, but after that to remain bogey-free, I’m very pleased with that. A great save on seven, that was a bit of a bonus to make par from a poor tee shot. Other than that, just solid golf and kept the ball in play and putted well. It's always going to be a good day then.”
Graeme McDowell: “Very pleased, especially the way I played the first kind of dozen holes. I made two clumsy errors on the greens from 12 and 15 feet where I three-whacked them both. To be making seven birdies on the golf course in the conditions we had today, I felt like the first nine holes we got it reasonably benign in comparison.
“I feel like it's particularly tough this week. The fairways are narrow. The rough is beautifully graded but if you start to miss it, you can count on these strong crosswinds, and you'll pay the ultimate price.
“Having been coming here for years and having some success here, I do stand on some of these tee boxes and feel a level of comfort. When you get a win, you do back to trying to steer it and the fairways become a little looser.”
Andy Sullivan: “I think it's close. Today was up there with it. Feel like I've gone through the tough times now and come out the other side of it and feel like I'm also improving on what I had before.
“It's nice, you know, nice to be back to form and going out there and just playing golf again. No worries, and it was great. A little bit extra motivation out there today with the loss of a loved one close, but still, got to go out there and do the job and hopefully do one for him this week.
“Any time you can shoot in the 60s around here, it's special. They get the course setup perfect every year. If you play well, you shoot a good score. If you don't, you're going to shoot a lot of numbers.”
Justin Thomas: “I played well today. I hit a lot of quality shots and hit a lot of good drives and iron shots into greens. I just had two bad swings that cost me three shots on 13 and then on five, two holes I'm hitting four-irons off the tee and if I get it in play, you are looking to make a birdie and I made bogey and double-bogey on those two holes. As a whole, I felt like I played solid today.
“It's different but it's still the same. I love the fans over in Europe. They are so respectful, and they really appreciate good golf shots. Not that the fans in the States don't but it's so much fun going to The Open Championship is hitting a seven-iron or eight-iron to 30 or 40 feet, and they know it's a great shot and I felt a very similar vibe here.
“I'm not too worried about where I'll be after round one. I'm pleased to get the first round under par, especially at a difficult place like this. If the wind keeps up like this, it's going to play hard this afternoon, but I'll be in good shape.”

MARK YOUNG LEADS BY ONE AS SEAN LAWRIE  SLIPS BACK TO SEVEN SHOTS OFF THE PACE

Mark Young carded a second consecutive round of 65 (-6) to hold a one-shot lead heading into the final round of the HotelPlanner.com PGA EuroPro Tour’s Cumberwell Park Championship, Bradford Upon Avon.

Young (Longridge Golf Club) cruised to a comfortable clubhouse lead early in the day, completing his round bogey-free and collecting six birdies along the way.

It’s a track the Lancashire lad has had formidable form on throughout his EuroPro Tour career; in the three years Young has played at Cumberwell Park he has only ever carded a 69 round or lower.

This year has been no exception, just one bogey in 36 holes and a one-shot lead over his nearest rival means the 36-year old has a very real opportunity to win consecutive EuroPro Tour titles, and another step towards to the coveted £250,000 four-win bonus and Challenge Tour spots.

Reflecting on his week he said: “I’m on a bit of a roll at the minute, and long may it continue. The course is holding up well, the fairways are firm and the greens are soft so you’re able to aim at the pins if you hit plenty of fairways.”

Young is no stranger to winning now but admitted being out in front will be a different challenge. He said: “Last week I was a couple of groups back and had nothing to lose and just go for it, but I’m leading now. I’ll probably do the same tomorrow, though and try and take my chances when the pop up.”

He added: “If I won, it would be one foot in the door for the Challenge Tour spots, which was my aim at the start of the season.”

Welshman James Frazer sits just a shot behind after carding a second round of 66 (-5), still in search of his first win on the EuroPro Tour.

Local amateur James Cooper (Cumberwell Park) stole the headlines after carding a solid second round of 67 (-4) to sit two off the lead, a feat that has attracted the 18-year old plaudits from players and spectators alike.

Talking after his round he said: “I feel great, I’ve gone out there and tried to enjoy it. I felt I played well today and hit plenty of fairways which really helped. I try not to get flustered by the situation, there is still a long way to go.”

He added: “It’ll be great fun going out there tomorrow with the cameras watching and trying to get hold of that trophy; it’s 18 holes of golf and that’s all I’m trying to think of it like right now.”

A cut to the leading 50 players and ties has now been made with those two-under par or better advancing to the final round.

Spectator entry is free throughout and live scoring of the final round will be available on europrotour.com. Highlights of the Cumberwell Park Championship will air on Sky Sports Golf on Tuesday, 10th July.

McDougall wins Scottish Young Pros' title despite two

double  bogeys in final round at West Lothian

Graeme McDougall (Elie Links) had two double bogey 6s in his final round but still managed to win the Scottish Young Professionals' Championship at West Lothian Golf Club today.
McDougall has rounds of 70, 68, 68 and 70 for an eight-under-par total of 276 - a shot ahead of joint runners-up James Steven (Pumpherston) (70-69-70-68) and Tom Higson (Gleneagles) 67-71-67-72).
McDougall's double bogeys came at the ninth and 13th in halves of 35. He was able to stay in the mix with a bag of five birdies.
Steven birdied the 16th and 17th in an inward 32 on his final round but came up one short of forcing a play-off while Higson was one over par for his final six holes so there was no late challenge from him.
Chris Curran (Bathgate), overnight leader with 69 and 67 for 136, fell away to final scores of 76 and 78 for 290.
