FOUR SHARE HIGHLAND LINKS PRO-AM VICTORY AND EARN £5,875 EACH

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
With a "no play-off" clause written into the rules of the three-day tournament, four men with two-under-par aggregates  shared victory, earning £5,875 each, at the conclusion of the £50,150 Highland Links 54-hole pro-am, sponsored by the Blue Group, over Royal Dornoch, Nairn and Castle Stuart.
Overnight leader by two strokes, Neil Henderson (Renaissance) posted a closing 74 at Royal Dornoch for a total of 211, opening the door for Gareth Wright (West Linton), signing off with a par 72 at Castle Stuart, Neil Fenwick (Dunbar), a one-over 72 at Nairn, and Germany-based Jonathan Grogan (Wumme), a two-under 69 at Royal Dornoch, to claim a share of the spoils at the richest pro-am tournament on the PGA Scottish Region schedule.
Grogan, Fenwick, Wright and Henderson were all in the clubhouse with their feet up, wondering if they would be relegated to joint second place by first-round leader Paul O'Hara (North Lanarkshire Leisure), among the last men to finish.
But, needing "only" a one-over-par 71 at Royal Dornoch for what would have been a winning aggregate of three-under 210, Paul could not seize the chance to chalk up his 11th victory of the season.fin
Instead, uncharacteristically, Paul slumped to a seven-over-par 77 and finished joint seventh on 216 alongside his older brother, Stephen, who closed with a 68 - a score Paul would dearly have loved to finish with. So, instead of an £8,000 cheque, Paul OHara earned £1,700, not to be sniffed at but will a case of "what might have been.".
James Ross (Royal Burgess) steered the Glasgow Whisky 2 team of Rory Taylor (handicap 16), Stephen McGoldrick (7) and John Mitchell (12) to victory in the pro-am competition with 256 Stableford points (86-82-88). Ross earned a £500 bonus for that.
Graham Fox (Clydeway Golf) earned £400 for leading Tomatin 1 to second place with 248pt (79-84-85)
Neil Fenwick (Dunbar) led the Romans Blind Pigs team to third place on 246 (82-84-80) and earned £300.
The Mathers Ltd team, of which Ross Kellet was the pro, finished fourth on 243 (83-77-83) and Ross earned £200.
The EMK Construction team, pro Cameron Marr, also had 243 Stableford points (79-77-87) but were placed fourth on a countback. Marr earned £100.
And a good time was had by all!

Lamb’s birdie blitz nets BIGGA National title

Lamb’s birdie blitz nets BIGGA National titleChris Lamb, who plays off +4 of a handicap at Newmachar Golf Club and is a greenkeeper at Trump International, Balmedie, has won the BIGGA (British and International Golf Greenkeepers Association) national golf championship at Verulam Golf Club, St Albans near London.
Two birdies over the final three holes helped Chris to win the title with a four-under-par total of 140, made up of rounds of 71 and three-under 69.
With four holes to play, Lamb, the overnight leader,  he sat one shot behind the eventual runner-up Tom Workman, of Minchinhampton
The 23-year-old Scot then drove the par 4 16th and just missed his eagle putt with a tap-in birdie to lead by one shot and then he knocked it to two feet on the par 3 17th and again holed for birdie for a two-shot lead and then he parred the par 5 18th to win by three shots.
Lamb had seven birdies in all in his final round.
He has now won both the Scottish and British Bigga championships this year, having won the Scottish at Musselburgh a couple of months ago
Said his father Robert: "Chris is well chuffed. He holds the trophy for a year and won a £500 voucher and will look forward to trying to retain it next year when it comes to Gullane."
