Paul Lawrie wins NE Alliance with brilliant 64 in bad weather at Portlethen

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Paul Lawrie scored his third win of the North-east Golfers Alliance season at Portlethen Golf Club on Wednesday in the last fixture of 2017 with a brilliant round of eight-under-par 64 in very windy conditions with a little bit of rain thrown in for good measure.

The 1999 Open champion, now attached to Gleneagles Hotel, won the top scratch prize of £160 by three shots from John Duff (Newmachar) with Paul's 22 year old son Craig third with a 70. John earned £130 and Craig £100.
Young Sam Kiloh, like Craig, playing out of the Paul Lawrie Golf Centre, was fourth with a par 72 which earned him £80.
Newmachar's Gordon Munro claimed the leading amateur honours with a creditable 73 in the testing conditions.
