Craig Lawrie, 22-year-old elder son of the 1999 Open champion, has failed in his bid to advance to Stage 2 of this year's European Tour Qualifying School.
Playing out of the Paul Lawrie Golf Centre, Craig shot a four-over-par 76 in the final round of the 72-hole eliminator over the Red Course at Frilford Heath Golf Club Oxfordshire and finished joint 42nd on four-over-292. His earlier rounds (76-69-71) had put him the top 20 with one round to go.
Only the top 20, who had totals of two-under-286 and better, advanced to Stage 2. They were led by Englishman Peter Tarver Jones with scores of 68, 69, 73 and 69 for nine-under 279 to earn the first prize of 1,800 Euros but, more important, stage nearer the Final Q School.
+All in all a bad day for the Lawries - Paul withdrew before the start of the second round of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. He was due to play the Old Course today after a 71 at Kingsbarns.
"Very frustrating but had to pull out this morning. Left foot awful ... couldn't get on to left side. Season over till I see doc at end of November" said Paul on website later.
