Perth player Young's 66 pushes him up to joint

third in Q School eliminator at Roxburghe

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Perth's Daniel Young shot into contention for a leading position at the European Tour Qualifying School Stage 1 72-hole competition with a third-round, six-under-par 66 for an eight-under tally of 208 at the Roxburghe Hotel golf course near Kelso.

That put the 26-year-old Craigie Hill man (pictured)  six behind the new leader, England's Sam Hutsby (65 for 202), and four behind the second-placed Dane, Rasmus Hjelm (70 for 204).
John Gallagher, the cack-handed former Scottish amateur champion who now plays out of Duddingston, is another Scot in the mix after a 69 for 209 and a share of fifth place.
At the end of Friday's final round the leading 20 and ties will advance to Stage 2.
Other Scots in the top 20 after three rounds are former British boys champion Ewen Ferguson (68 for 210) from Bearsden, amateur Liam Johnston (Dumfries and County) (69 for 213)  and Tom Higson (Gleneagles Hotel) (68 for 213).
Ferguson is joint eighth, Johnston and Higson sharing 16th place.
Paul McKechnie (Braid Hills), the front runner for the Scots through the early rounds dropped back to joint 23rd place alongside Baberton's Paul Ferrier on 214. McKechnie had a third-round 74, Ferrier a 71.
+The third round has not been completed in the Stage 1 event at Fleesensee Golf Club, Germany. Scot Craig Ross had a first-round 69 but it is not known what he had in Round 2. It is not easy to get information from the venue's website
