Scottish Open exposure leads to worldwide

interest in Castle Stuart links
NEWS RELEASE
Golfers are queuing up to play Castle Stuart Golf Links after spectacular images of the stunning location were seen around the world during the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open.
The Highlands of Scotland links course  has received dozens of enquiries over the weekend from people across the UK, and from Europe and the US, who have seen images on TV, the internet and newspapers during the four-day event.
The course,  on the Moray Firth coastline between Nairn and Inverness, re-opens to the public on Tuesday after staging the prestigious event for the fourth time in six years.
Stuart McColm, general manager at Castle Stuart Golf Links, said: “It’s been a fantastic week. The feedback on the course, the scenery and the area in general has been phenomenal.
“The weather has at different times shown off our wonderful location and tested the players to provide a full links experience.
“Millions of people around the world have been focused on this tournament and the Highlands of Scotland over the last four days and this has given incredible exposure which will provide a lasting legacy for tourism.
“We have received dozens of calls and emails already – before the tournament even finished – from people who have seen pictures of the location and are keen to come here and experience it for themselves.
“Everyone, including the staff at Castle Stuart, the European Tour, sponsors, volunteers and all those involved in providing the infrastructure to stage this great occasion deserve the highest praise.
Mr McColm added: “A big thank you to all those who came here to watch the event. Once again, we have shown that we have everything needed to host a major golf tournament in the Highlands of Scotland.”
Castle Stuart has now hosted the Scottish Open four out of the last six years, having previously held the event from 2011-2013.

Paul Goydos wins third US Senior Tour event

By Kevin Casey

Paul Goydos finished his week at the Dick's Sporting Goods Open with a flawless 69 to win.

Paul Goydos’ streak of winning every year he’s on the US PGA Senior Champions Tour continues.
The 52-year-old American fired a bogey-free 69 Sunday at En-Joie Golf Club in Endicott, New York State  for a two-shot win at the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open.
The flawless 3-under round was Goydos’ third straight sub-70 score for the week and earned him his third Senior Tour title in three years on the over-50s circuit.
Despite that consistency in winning, Goydos coming out on top this week was still a bit out of the blue.
While he hasn’t missed a cut in 14 starts this season, the California native entered the latest event with a recent slate of T24-T38-T36-T17-T54-T36.
Most shocked by the sudden surge in New York was Goydos himself.
“My game is like a jack-in-the box, kind of keep spinning it and it pops up every once in a while,” Goydos joked. “There was no inkling that I was going to play well, other than the mythical law of averages. Things hadn’t gone well, hadn’t played well, my attitude was bad, so naturally I won.”
Goydos sucked the drama out of the tournament for the most part on the final day. After birdies on Nos. 6 and 10, he had built a three-shot lead. And a final birdie on 16 secured his final cushion.
He finished the week at 14 under and jumped from 31st to 12th in the Charles Schwab Cup money list with the win. Wes Short Jr. placed solo second at 12 under and Neal Lancaster sat third at 10 under. John Riegger, Goydos’ co-leader at the beginning of the day, dropped into a tie for fourth with Joe Durant at 10 under following a closing 73.
John Daly, who inexplicably started putting one-handed during the final round and took a 73, his worst round of the three, placed T-11 at 7 under par 209
