Russell Knox wins US Tour Q School Stage 1 event
Russell Knox, the Scot who is one of the leading money-winners on the NGA Hooters Tour, swept through to Stage 2 of the US PGA Tour Qualifying School process by winning the Stage 1 event at St Augustine, Florida by three shots today.
Inverness-born Knox, who stayed on in the United States after spending four years playing the US college circuit as a Jacksonville University, Florida student, had rounds of 69, 70, 68 and 66 for a 15-under-par tally of 273.
Cardross-born Ross Bain, based in Dubai, missed out in the Stage 1 eliminator at at Dayton Valley, Nevada. He finished with a 71 for a four-under-par total of 284, seven shots too many to figure among the 22 qualifiers from this venue for Stage 2.
