Broadhurst and Lane share Mauritius seniors' lead and Monty is in the mix

EUROPEAN TOUR COMMUNICATIONS
Former Ryder Cup players Paul Broadhurst and Barry Lane share the lead on ten under par after the second round of the season-ending MCB Tour Championship at Constance Belle Mare Plage, Mauritius today.
Broadhurst, winner of the Senior Open Championship Presented by Rolex at Carnoustie earlier this year, and a member of Europe’s victorious 1991 Ryder Cup side, carded the best round of the day, a seven under par 65, to take the clubhouse lead before being joined by Lane who finished in the second to last pair of the afternoon.
The 51 year old is bidding to become the second consecutive player to take home both the MCB Tour Championship title and the John Jacobs Trophy for topping the European Senior Tour Order of Merit, which he had already secured before teeing off in Mauritius, following Colin Montgomerie’s success in 2015.
“I didn’t feel as in control as I did yesterday,” said Broadhurst. “I had a few bad hybrids and a few poor drives, I was lucky to scrape par on the last.
“My game is close, but it’s close to being the other way as well. I’d have taken that score this morning, you’re always happy to be in contention.
“There aren’t many scoreboards on the back nine, so I wasn’t sure how I was doing until I played 17. I guess you’ll have to get to 15 or 16 under to win this.
“The usual suspects are at the top of the leaderboard, so I’ll need a low one tomorrow.”
Lane, who represented Europe in 1993 at The Belfry, birdied the par five 18th hole to join Broadhurst at the top of the leaderboard after his five under par round of 67.
The 56 year old has been a runner-up twice in Mauritius and is determined to go one better in 2016.
“I’ve played really well for two days, I think I’ve hit just three bad shots,” said Lane. “It should be really good fun tomorrow.
“You know you’ll have to shoot 65 or 66 tomorrow, so it’s just a case of attack, attack.”
Also in the hunt heading into the final day are the Ryder Cup pair of Montgomerie and Phillip Price and South Africa’s David Frost.
“Senior Open Champion Broady is there,” added Lane “And there’s Monty who finished second in America and Pricey who came second in Italy. Tomorrow will be a really fun day.”
The trio share third place on nine under par and former Ryder Cup captain Montgomerie was pleased to be in the hunt in his bid for a second consecutive MCB Tour Championship title.
“I was disappointed not to birdie the last again but we’re okay, we’re in there,” said Montgomerie. “There are a few of us in the same boat, so it’s good. I’m in position and I’ll look forward to tomorrow.”
On seven under par, in a share of sixth, are Paul Eales, winner of the Prostate Cancer UK Scottish Senior Open earlier this year, and James Kingston.

Hong Kong Open

Cabrera Bello and Brazel level with round to go

EUROPEAN TOUR COMMUNICATIONS
Rafa Cabrera Bello battled to a level par 70 on day three of the UBS Hong Kong Open to head into Sunday's  final round with a share of the lead alongside Sam Brazel.
The Spaniard entered Saturday with a three-shot lead over his Australian playing partner and he extended that to five on the front nine but three bogeys in four holes before the turn and a double-bogey on the 14th saw him lose the lead for the first time since midday on Thursday.
Brazel turned in 34 and three birdies on the back nine had in him in front but birdies on the 15th and 17th kept Cabrera-Bello's hopes of a wire-to-wire victory alive.
England's Tommy Fleetwood was two shots behind the leaders at nine under, with American David Lipsky a further shot back at Hong Kong Golf Club.
David Howell had equalled the course record before the leaders evened teed off with a 63 to get to seven under which saw him end the day alongside Andrew Dodt and Justin Walters in a tie for fifth.
A win for Cabrera Bello would cap off an excellent 2016 that has seen the 32 year old make an undefeated Ryder Cup debut and finish eighth on the Race to Dubai Rankings presented by Rolex without missing a single cut.
Player Quotes
Rafa Cabrera Bello: “Today, my score had all colours of the rainbow in it! There's been a lot of positives and a lot of negatives. I got off to a good start after the bogey on the first with birdies on two, three and five was what I was looking for. But then silly bogeys on six and seven ruined the tone of the day a little bit. I was trying to find a stable day where I was just playing solid like I had these past two days. But the best thing, is I'm still in it. I'm still leading. Of course it would have been nicer to have a few to spare but I still would have needed to play great tomorrow and I'm still in a position.
“What's going to win tomorrow? I don't know. Sam and I have a say in it – if either of us play good, the others are going to struggle a bit, but then there's a couple guys, I think Tommy and David perhaps, just two and four shots back, they could have a say. I don't know, it could be 12 under; it could be 16, so within that range.”
Sam Brazel: “That was fun out there. I started a little nervous on the first but I guess that's the situation you're in. I felt the nerves a little bit at lunch time, but just sort of grinded it out and it was fun out there. We all get a bit nervous from time to time. It's good to have nerves I think. I won't speculate on what it would mean for me to win. I'll just go play one shot at a time and see what happens. I’ll try and control the nerves a little better than I did today. Just try to go out there and enjoy the atmosphere of it all and just take it all in. It's been fun.”
Tommy Fleetwood: “It would be great to win tomorrow obviously. I haven't won for a long time and it almost feels like I have had a year out of the game because I was playing dreadful from mid-2015 to the middle of this year. I've sort of been on a path since August, if you like, getting my game back. I was just playing dreadful. Just rubbish. My game's been coming back and I've had some good results towards the end of the year.
“I went back to my old coach and I've had one of my best mates on the bag since July. Things have just turned around. I've worked hard. We had to make some changes and we had to put a lot of hours into it, and sometimes when you're doing it all and you're shooting 78 in first round of The Open, you just think, what's the point? But it began to show, and I've been having a nice time on the course. Like I say, caddie and coach have made the biggest difference and I've been enjoying my job again.”

Shanshan Feng wins record fourth Omega Dubai Ladies Masters title

By VIREN VARMA
DUBAI— Her putter on fire, Shanshan Feng produced a compelling fightback, carding a magical eight-under 64 to win the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters for a record fourth time in five appearances at Emirates Golf Club today.

Starting the final round a good five shots off the pace, China’s most decorated golfer reeled off five birdies on the front nine and four coming home to reach 10-under for the tournament, claiming the season-ending Ladies European Tour event by a good two shots ahead of England’s Charley Hull, who climbed up the leaderboard with a brilliant closing 65.

“I'm really happy that I actually brought out my A Game today,” said a jubilant Feng after receiving the iconic trophy from His Highness Shaikh Hasher bin Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum,

“I knew that it was going to be windy and I knew that playing in the wind is one of my strongest parts. So even though I was five behind, I always thought that maybe I would still have a chance to win. I tried my best and an 8-under was a pretty good score,” said Feng, who first won the title in 2012, and then again three times consecutively from 2014.

The genial Chinese golfer, who is also an Omega brand ambassador, flew out the gate in style, rolling in six birdies in her first 10 holes and that hot streak took the world number four to with one stroke of the lead, held by held by the overnight leader Felicity Johnson

Another three straight birdies from the ninth gave her a one-stroke advantage and it was effectively all over when she made her eighth birdie on the 14thhole to hit 10-under-par in total, before ending with four straight pars.

For Feng, this was her seventh Ladies European Tour victory and her fourth title of the season, following the Buick Championship, Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia and TOTO Japan Classic, as well as Olympic Bronze at Rio 2016.

Tied for 23rd on one-under overnight, England’s Charley Hull made her presence felt with a flawless final round.

“It could have been a really good score, but missed a lot of putts. I also holed good putt and that kind of evened itself out. It was really windy out there. So I'm quite happy with my score in the conditions.”

India’s Aditi Ashok ended in a tie for third with England’s Florentyna Parker on six-under-par and sealed Rookie of the Year honours.

“It was pretty solid. I actually didn't start very well. I was one over after four holes. All four were actually birdie-able with the tailwind. So I didn't really make use of that.

“Things were better on the back nine which I covered in two-under. I'm happy with two-under scores three days in a row. I feel it was consistent but it could have been better. But there's always something you can do better every week. So it's fine.”

First round leader Parker signed off with a 71 and said: “I struggled on the front nine, but I finished really well, so I was 3-under for the last five holes and I'll take it. I've had a great year and eight top-10s. I'm really thrilled.”

England’s Georgia Hall tied for fifth on five-under alongside Ashleigh Simon, who is getting married next week, a year after being proposed to by her boyfriend and caddie David Buhai on the 18th green.

Meanwhile second round leader Felicity Johnson ended with a 75 for a share of seventh place. “I'm not a massive fan of playing in the wind, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it might have been.

“It was tricky to pick the direction out there. But yeah, it wasn't as bad as I thought it might have been. It's obviously a top-10, any day, you've got to be happy with.”

Kuchar, English pull ahead at Franklin Templeton Shootout

NAPLES, Florida -- Here are a few observations following the second round of the Franklin Templeton Shootout at Tiburon Golf Club at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort where Harris English and Matt Kuchar claimed a one-stroke lead with a 6-under 66 in the modified alternate-shot format and lead by one heading into the final round over the team of Steve Stricker and Jerry Kelly.
Who would've thought a Georgia Bulldog and a Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket would get along so famously as a team. Harris English, the proud Bulldog, and Matt Kuchar, the Yellow Jacket grad, are now a combined 114 under par in their last 11 rounds in this event.
The bogey-free, 6-under 66 in the modified alternate shot format on a breezy, overcast day may have been their best effort yet. Under the rules of the format, each player hit a drive on every hole. The player whose drive wasn't selected had to hit the second shot and then they alternated shots until the ball was holed. It didn't hurt the leaders that English bombed drives 30 yards past fellow competitor Steve Stricker to set up Kuchar's strong iron play.
"He was 50 yards past me," Jerry Kelly, Stricker's partner, said.
"There's just a lot of offense on that team," Stricker said.
So how have English and Kuchar, standouts from rival schools, come together to perform as one? "It's a unique pairing that way and there's a decent rivalry, but I think both of us look at it as more respecting each other's game," Kuchar said. "We have very similar laid back, easygoing personalities. Just kind of we let that bit slide and just try to play some good golf together."
They made it look easy early, making birdie on six of their first 11 holes to open a four-stroke lead before closing with seven straight pars and finishing at 21-under 123.
Since joining forces in 2013, English and Kuchar have a victory and runner-up finishes the past two years. "Nice to have a one-shot lead," Kuchar said, "but that's no great cushion against guys like (Stricker-Kelly) that can really do some scoring."
It wasn't as pretty as their first-round performance but Jerry Kelly and Steve Stricker rallied with four birdies on their closing nine holes to shoot a 4-under 68 in the modified alternate shot format.
"This is really the tougher format mentally," Kelly said. "I was very shaky at the start. I just didn't have the swing as much as I normally do."

COMO ESTA, RUSSELL?

Russell Knox has an off-season practice regimen that doesn't involve his golf clubs. The 31-year-old Scot says he intends to learn to speak Spanish, and for good reason. His wife, Andrea, was born in Colombia, and is fluent.
"I'm fed up with her complaining that I don't speak the language," Knox said with a smile.
Knox said he can understand the basics, but wants to be able to converse in Spanish with his wife. He's still determining how he will go about doing that, be it audio tapes such as Rosetta Stone or an instructor.
"If I dedicate myself I think I can pick it up pretty quickly," he said. "But for the last eight years I've said I'm going to workout and just look at me and you know how well that's gone."

First Round, Scramble - Each player hits a drive on every hole and the best drive is selected. Each player then plays a second shot from the spot where the selected drive lays, and the best second shot is selected. This process is repeated until the hole is completed.

Second Round, Modified Alternate Shot - Each player hits a drive on every hole and one drive is selected. The player whose drive is NOT selected hits the second shot, and they alternate shots until the ball is holed.

Final Round, Better Ball - Each player plays through every hole using his own ball. The player whose score is the lowest on each hole will be the team score for that hole.
