Louis Gaughan, Neil Fenwick T6 on 68 in

EuroPro event at Moor Allerton

NEWS RELEASE BY NICK TEALE
Nathan Kimsey and Alex Wrigley share the lead in the Clipper Logistics Championship on six under par 65 after the opening round of the HotelPlanner.com PGA EuroPro Tour event at Moor Allerton Golf Club, Leeds.

Kimsey (Brocket Hall Golf Club) sits well outside the Race To Desert Springs Order of Merit top 60 and needs a big week to propel himself into position to earn an invite to the season-ending Tour Championship next month.

Wrigley (Hartlepool Golf Club) lies 17th on the tour rankings, knowing a win could see him move to within the top five, a position which is rewarded with a Challenge Tour card for 2017 should he be there at the end of the season.

Nick Watson (Stoke Rochford Golf Club), Mike Bedford (Bramhall Park Golf Club) and Ryan O’Neill (Penwortham Golf Club) all shot 67 for their first round and share third on four under.
Louis Gaughan (Bathgate) and Dunbar's Neil Fenwick are the leading Scots with 68s to share sixth place

At the end of this week’s Clipper Logistics Championship the top 60 players on the tour’s rankings will be invited to play the big money Matchroom Sport Tour Championship in Spain.

Those still unsure of their invite to Desert Springs know that, should they get to the Tour Championship, not only will their hopes of a top-five Race To Desert Springs finish still be alive, but they will also earn a full exemption on next season’s EuroPro Tour.

Kimsey opened up with consecutive birdies at the 1st and 2nd and moved to three under at the 6th. He dropped a shot at the 8th but made amends with a birdie at the next. Coming in he made four more birdies – at 12, 13, 16 and 17 – but sandwiched that run with a bogey at the 15th.

Wrigley was unblemished for his opening 18. He went out in 33 for two under at the turn but made significant inroads on the back nine, including back-to-back birdies to finish.

The Clipper Logistics Championship continues with the second round on Thursday, September 22, after which a cut to the leading 50 players and ties will be made before the final round taking place on Friday.

Live scoring can be found at www.europrotour.com. Highlights will be broadcast on Sky Sports on Tuesday, October 4.

WIND-TAMER CAMERON WINS N-EAST ALLIANCE WITH A 69 AT NEWMACHAR

    COLIN FARQUHARSON  REPORTS

Winner Ross Cameron (left) is congratulated by Joel Hopwood, the NE Alliance joint secretary. Picture by Cal Carson Golf Agency.

Peterhead born and based Ross Cameron (Saltire Energy) learned to play golf in the "Buchan breeze" so no problem for him to cop
cope well with a strong wind to post a three-under-par 69 and win the North-east Alliance by two strokes at the head of a field of 94 over the Newmachar Golf Club's Hawkshill course today (WED).
With the £150 sponsorship of Mike Smith, proprietor of the Banks of Ury hotel in Inverurie adding £10 to all the prizewinners' cash (pros) or vouchers (amateurs), Cameron collected a first prize of £160  with halves of 36 and 33 which included birdies at the eighth, 14th, 16th and 17th. He had one bogey, at the fifth.
"It's not easy to hold it all together when it's as windy as that," said Ross, "so I was quite pleased to get it round in three under par. I drove well, hit my irons well and my short game was good."
Cameron heads off to Germany for his next event but, more important for his future activities, is the upcoming European Tour Qualifying School Stage 2 competition.
Motherwell's Ross Kellett (Paul Lawrie Golf Centre) was the only other player to return a sub-par round. He shot a one-under 71 with halves of 34 and 37.
Three under par on the 12th tee, having birdied the second, fifth, seventh and 11th with only one bogey, at the third, Kellett had the chance to register a winning score but he bogeyed the 12th, 14th and 15th before closing with a birdie at the 18th.
David Law (Paul Lawrie Golf Centre), two-handicap amateur Cameron Grant (Portlethen) and Kevin Duncan (Paul Lawrie Golf Centre) tied for third place with 72s.
There were 21 no returns - a sure sign that the wind made life difficult for the average player.

Kimberley  Beveridge wins deep in the heart of

Texas - her first win in America

Aboyne Golf Club member Kimberley Beveridge, a 21-year-old second-year student at Tyler Junior College, Texas, won the TJC Fall Intercollegiate by two strokes at Pine Springs Golf Club yesterday. It was her first victory in America.

Kimberley, pictured, who led by five shots after a one-under-par first round of 71, added a second-round 77 for a four-over-par total of 148.
Runner-up on 150 was Bethany Acey (Murray state) with scores of 76 and 74 for 150.
One of Kimberley's team-mates, BoYoung Park finished third on 151 (79-72).
The course was a par 72 of 6,149yd.
Beveridge's success comes a day or two after Aberdeenshire were beaten 5-4 by Dumfriesshire in the title decider at the Scottish women's county finals at Aboyne golf course.
Kimberley had to return to America for the start of the 2016-2017 term and so was not available for the Aberdeenshire team.
Would there have been a different result in the county finals if Kimberley had been able to play?
We shall never know!
