Watch US Tour pros take the Tin Cup Challenge, show off phenomenal hand-eye coordination

There's a great scene in the movie Tin Cup when Kevin Costner hustles another golfer by playing him by using non-golf clubs. Tin Cup makes this look easy (Keep in mind, though, he also shot even par at a U.S. Open qualifier using just a 7-iron), but could actual US PGA Tour pros pull it off? Thanks to Skratch TV we now know. And the answer is yes.
Check out this video of Robert Streb and Ben Crane taking the "Tin Cup Challenge," and marvel at their phenomenal hand-eye coordination. The two play a hole by teeing off with a baseball bat before switching to a shovel to hit their golf balls and eventually putting with bunker rakes:
We're going to assume they didn't actually bet a car, but either way, Tin Cup would be proud, especially of Crane using a hoe to blast out of a bunker to gimme range. These guys are (really) good.

Challenge Tour scoreboard

Jordan Smith leads with seven-under 63 in

France, Peter Whiteford top Scot with a 67

FROM THE CHALLENGE TOUR WEBSITE
Jordan Smith justified his status as the highest-ranked player in the Challenge Tour's Cordon Golf Open field by shooting a seven under par 63 to tie the first round lead at Golf Blue Green de Pléneuf Val André in France
The Englishman, currently second in the Road to Oman Rankings, had five birdies and an eagle in a bogey-free opening 18 holes before compatriot Matthew Nixon matched him on that mark.
Smith was playing on the EuroPro Tour this time last year – ultimately topping the rankings to earn a spot on the European Challenge Tour for this season – and he was pleased with the start he made on his first visit to picturesque Pléneuf.
“I’m definitely happy with that,” said the 23 year old. “I played some really good stuff, the putter was really steady on the front nine and then got really hot on the back nine.
“It’s a great place to do it too – we’ve got the beach, the sea, the views, and today we even had the golf. It’s my first time here but it’s such a nice spot.
“Me and my caddie came up with a good gameplan because you don’t have to hit too many drivers out there, it’s more three woods and two irons to get it in the right positions, which I did really well today.
“There are definitely a few holes that can throw you off – if you miss a green in the wrong spot, because it’s quite firm, it can shoot off 20 yards into the bushes, so you’ve got to stay aware of your surroundings.”
Smith won the second event on the Road to Oman, the Red Sea Egyptian Challenge, and has since been consistently towards the top of the Rankings, though two missed cuts at the end of July gave him pause for thought.
However, following some work on the practice ground, he has been showing his class again of late, with top ten finishes in each of his last two events helping him close the gap between him and leader Romain Langasque to less than 5,000 points – and Smith is ultimately hoping to overtake his French rival.
“I missed two cuts in a row,” he said. “But then I got to work with my coach, on a few technical things, which I was doing over those two weeks and which is why I didn’t play so good.
“Now it’s all slotting into place and it’s all going according to plan ahead of this next two weeks, then a couple of weeks off, and then the long run in.
“I’ve really, really enjoyed this season. I got off to a nice start, which really helps – it meant I got into all the tournaments and could plan my schedule, so I was taking a week off, then playing three weeks, and keep myself fresh.
“I’m definitely aiming to win the Road to Oman Rankings, that’s the aim now. I’m up in second again, but I don’t have a number of points in mind, it depends what Langasque does really, but I’ll just keep going and do my best.”
Co-leader Nixon continued to enjoy the French life by backing up his tie for fifth at Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge – his best result this season – with an eventful opening round, the highlight of which was holing a nine iron for eagle on the 17th.
One shot behind is Robin Sciot-Siegrist, whose outward nine of 29 had his fellow French fans dreaming of something truly special before breezier conditions coming in meant he had to settle for a creditable 64.
In fourth place is Garrick Porteous, one shot further back on five under par, ahead of a large group of players on four under.

Jordan McColl T5 with a round to go on

EuroPro Tour event at Hawkstone Park

NEWS RELEASE BY NICK TEALE
Matthew Moseley, Curtis Griffiths, Chris Lloyd and James Maw share the lead on ten under par 132 ahead of the final round of the PGA EuroPro Tour’s COBRA PUMA GOLF Championship at Hawkstone Park.

Six golfers are just two back on eight under and a further four are at seven under, setting the tournament up for a gripping finale.

Scot Jordan McColl is T5 on134 after rounds of 68 and 66.
Bradley Neil and Neil Fenwick both scored 65s today.

With just two regular-season events and the Tour Championship remaining after this week’s competition, all eyes are on the Race To Desert Springs Order of Merit, from which the top five at the end of the season earn a Challenge Tour card for 2017.

Moseley (Tenby GC/Steven Rees Wealth Ltd) carded the day’s best round, a nine-under-par 62, to set the clubhouse pace on ten under. Griffiths (Wentworth) soon joined him after a second-round 63 on the par-71 Championship Course, traditionally a par-72. Griffiths is protecting his place in the all-important money list top five after winning at East Sussex National two weeks ago.

Lloyd (The Kendleshire) (66, 66 for 132) has finished in the top ten at three of his last four EuroPro tournaments and knows a win could see him climb as high as fourth on the Race To Desert Springs, while Maw (Rockliffe Hall) (62, 70 for 132) could also move into the top five with victory.

The Sheffield golfer began the second round with a four-shot advantage and ensured himself a share of the 36-hole lead with a one-under-par second round.

“We are approaching the end of the season so you have to try and win now,” said Maw. “It will be all guns blazing tomorrow.
“I was surprised to see scoring so good today. I played well myself but got the choice of a  couple of clubs wrong and didn’t hole as much as I did yesterday. I finished strongly which was nice, because I was falling off a little bit.

“It is nice to be up there but there are a lot of guys at seven under or better, so somebody will go low and hopefully it is me.”
At Montrose earlier in the season Maw began the round with a one-shot lead and was five under for his round when he spotted a leaderboard at the 15th, showing he was still two shots behind eventually winner Billy Hemstock, who had carded a ten-under-par course record to take the title from Maw’s grasp.

“If I play like I did at Montrose again I will have a good chance but after what happened there I will definitely be looking at the leaderboards tomorrow,” added Maw.

A cut to the leading 50 players and ties has now been made with all those two under par or better progressing to play Friday’s final round, highlights of which will air on Sky Sports on Tuesday, September 13.

If only Shannon McWilliam could keep a

double bogey 6 off her card!

Shannon McWilliam, for the second day in a row, ran up a double bogey 6 over her last few holes in the British women's open amateur stroke play golf championship at Knock Golf Club.
In the first round, she had a 6 at the 15th. In the second round, the 6 happened at the 17th and saw the Aboyne player finish the day with a repeat 76 (37-39) for 152 over the par-73 course. She had four birdies but too many bogeys - five in all plus the double to be lying joint 18th at the halfway stage of the 72-hole event.
Without the double bogeys, Shannon would be four strokes better off, a glimpse of the obvious, but it underlines how damaging her bad holes have been.
Hannah McCook (Grantown on Spey) improved from an 80 to a 74 (36-38) with birdies at the short fourth and par-4 15th.
Chloe Goadby (St Regulus) and Gabrielle MacDonald) are both on the 157 mark - one shot inside the cut. Chloe had three double bogeys in her round of 81, which was five shots worse than her Day 1 effort. Gabrielle went the other way, 81 in the first, and 76 in the second. The former Scottish champion could have been even better for she had a double bogey 6 at the 15th.
Moffat-based Gemma Batty, English-born but hoping to earn a Scotland cap once she completes residential qualifications, is best placed of all the Scottish-based players in joint seventh position. She has had rounds of 77 and 71 (36-35) for 148, four behind the leader, Italian 14-year-old Alessia Nobilio from the Ambrosiano Golf Club.
Alessiawas a beaten semi-finalist in the recent British girls' open amateur championship at Royal St David's Golf Club, Harlech, since when she has won the Belgian girls amateur international stroke-play title.

Forsyth breaks Downfield pro record with a 62

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Alastair Forsyth (Mearns Castle) set a new professional record score for the Downfield Golf Club course in Dundee today with an 11-under-par round of 62 to win the £5,400 RRS Discovery pro-am by five shots from Chris Kelly (Taymouth Castle), Robert Arnott (Bishopbriggs) and Graham Fox (Clydeway Golf).
My earlier story had Forsyth's 62 as 10 under par but as Kenny Hutton, the Downfield club's senior pro, explains:
"The PGA printed our scorecards wrongly. The par at Downfield is actually 73 (the 11th is a par 5 but they had it down as a par 4) so Alastair scored -11. Also the previous pro record was 65 by Paul Lawrie and Andrew Crerar, but the amateur record is 63 (-10) by Graham Bell who is again doing brilliantly alongside Nick Robson and the Senior boys out in Slovenia!
So, Forsyth, who earned £950 for his record round, had two eagles (fourth and seventh), eight birtdies (sixth, eighth, ninth, 11th, 13th, 14th, 16th and 17th - and one bogey, at the second.
The Mearns Castle Golf Academy pro also led the amateur team of Kevin Webster (handicap 5), Drew Webster (2) and Paul Teviotdale (scr) to an eight-stroke victory in the pro-am team event with a 20-under-par total of 124.

Lefty Peterson gets it right in European

Masters' Day 1 with a six-under-par 64

  NEWS RELEASE
Crans Montana, Switzerland: Paul Peterson credited his experience at the Omega European Masters last year for giving him a share of the opening round lead with three other players today.
The American left-hander missed the cut last year but showed no signs of repeating his mistakes as he fired a six-under-par 64 to tie with Daniel Brooks of England and Frenchmen Michael Lorenzo-Vera and Gregory Havret at the €2.7 million  event sanctioned by the Asian Tour and European Tour.
Title holder and Masters Tournament champion Danny Willett of England is a further shot back after firing an impressive eagle on the final hole to share fourth place on 65 with China’s Li Hao-tong, Australians Marcus Fraser and Scott Hend at the Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club.
Julien Quesne of France, Joachim B. Hansen of Denmark, Richard Green of Australia and Englishmen James Morrison and Andrew Johnston also had 65s
Peterson, an Asian Tour member since 2014, continued his fine form at the Omega European Masters after winning his career’s first title at the Czech Masters on the European Tour a fortnight ago.
He marked his card with seven birdies including one on the final hole to give himself a chance to secure a second victory in three weeks.
“It was a much better start than last year. I felt really good to get off to a good start. I was reading the greens well and putting the ball in play. I’m continuing my strong wedge game so I’m really happy,” said Peterson.
“It is really fun to come and play on this course again. Last year was my first time but it shows how far I’ve come in a year. Some things might have worried me in the past. Now I’m able to see where I want to hit it and do it pretty well,” he added.
Playing from the 10th tee, Willett launched his title defence with a stunning round which included an eagle 3 on the ninth hole to recover from a slow start.
“It was an early start and I had a terrible warm-up this morning. I got the ball into play on the first few holes and felt a little bit better. After six holes I made a few good golf shots. This course suits my eye for some reason, it always has. I rolled the ball well but didn’t quite expect a 65 this morning,” said the Englishman.
China’s Li, who won the China Open on the European Tour in May, recovered from two early bogeys to trail the leaders by one-shot as he emerged as the best placed Asian after day one.
“It was a tough start for me but I played quite well after that. I had a lot of birdie chances and sank a lot of putts. I’m more consistent as compared to the last few weeks. I’m working with a new coach and it seems to be paying off,” said Li.
Hend, a nine-time Asian Tour winner and currently ranked third on the Order of Merit, was delighted to return with a battling 65 in tricky and challenging conditions.
“Nothing on this course suits my game,” he said. “This is a very precision type golf course as you can tell from all the past winners. It is not a golf course which you can bludgeoned to death. A lot of patience is needed here.”
“We teed off at 8am and for the first nine holes the ball doesn’t go as far but as it warms up you pick up another three or five yards on your irons. It can be quite tricky for the guys who are playing here for the first time,” said Hend.
Paul Lawrie (35-35) and David Drysdale matched par with a round of 71 apiece. They are T49. Richie Tamsay is T66 on 71; Stephen Gallacher T83 on 72; Marc Warren T108 on 73; Scott Jamieson T130 on 75 and Craig Lee T141 on 76,

Jeff Wright (Forres) earned 200 points as winner of the Blair Trophy at Inverness and Forbes added another 130 points to take his total to 605, forty points ahead of Bryan Fotheringham (Forres) who got ninety points from the Inverness event. Fotheringham's total now 565.
Other significant point earners from Inverness event were: Jordan Shaw (Boat of Garten)180, Kyle Godsman (Moray) 160 Alan Cameron (F and R) 130, and Bryan Fotheringham (Forres) 90.
Forbes and Fotheringham are still involved in the semi final stages of the North District match-play championship, still to be played, at either Castle Stuart or Skibo Castle, but who ever wins the match-play points no player can better Forbes's total.
What may change is third and fourth place involving the two other semi-finalists, David Joel (Inverness) and last year's winner Fraser Fotheringham (The Nairn). The points they will be given from their match-play results will lift them both above current third place occupier Alan Cameron (Fortrose and Rosemarkie) whose final total is 295. The outstanding semi-finals are Forbes v Joel and the two Fotheringhams against each other.
The current merit leaders are
605 J Forbes (Inverness).
565 B Fotheringham (Forres), R A L Cameron (Fortrose and Rosemarkie).
290 D Joel (Inverness).

Ross-shire League Success For Tain

Tain team who won at Fortrose and Rosemarkie. Left to right – Kieran MacKay, Munro Ferries, Billy Ferries, Ewan MacPherson, Dave Clark.

By ROBIN WILSON
Stunned by their defeat in last year's final at Muir of Ord and suffering beatings in other finals since 2007, Tain Golf Club ended their nine-year wait to land a third Highland Fabricators Cup from the Ross-shire Leagues when they beat Alness in last Sunday's final over the Fortrose and  Rosemarkie course.

Tain took their revenge over Gairloch in the early season quarter-finals played at Tarbat, then booked their place in a successive final with a 3-2 win over Invergordon in the morning semi finals at Fortrose.
Tain won the first two ties against Invergordon and then the fourth game to set up the 2017 final of the Ross-shire singles competition against Alness who had beaten Strathpeffer Spa 4-1.

The Tain team included their Inverness-based club champion Kieran MacKay who had the backing of the ever present Ferries brothers, Billy and Munro. Ewan MacPherson and Dave Clark completed the Tain five-man team.

In the top match, after Andrew Brown for Alness had birdied the 17th hole, Tain's MacKay went to the final green still with a one- hole lead. They halved the final hole in bogeys to bring in Tain's first point of the final.
Craig Taylor levelled for Alness with a 17th green success over Munro Ferries and the tie was still level when the Alness greenkeeper Gary Urquhart and Tain's Billy Ferries could not be separated after 18 holes.

This match saw some of the best golf played all weekend when seagulls and dolphins frolicked on the firth - not the windless conditions Urquhart was told to expect on his first visit to the course but he thrived in them as the pair exchanged birdies over the 18 holes.

Urquhart got his final birdie on the last green from a superb four- iron to six feet and earn a halved tie but they had to remain by the 18th green until the result of the next two ties were were known.
If these points were to go one to each club Urquhart and Ferries would have had to continue their tie into extra holes. Word filtered through that Dave Clark in the fifth game had won his match on the 17th green against Alness's Lewis McCloy so the focus and outcome rested on the one remaining match, between Shaun Hogg for Alness and Ewan MacPherson for Tain.

Still being contested on the final hole neither player found the par-3 18th green with their tee shots but a marvellous chip followed by a 4ft putt from MacPherson for a par -3 won the hole and the cup for Tain by a 3½ to 1½ margin.
