Paul Lawrie matches Welshman's 66 in Round 2

Bradley Dredge leads by three in Denmark

FROM THE EUROPEAN TOUR WEBSITE
Bradley Dredge will take a three-shot lead into the weekend at the Made in Denmark tournament after following his opening 63 with an impressive 66 in tougher conditions at Himmerland Golf and Spa Resort.
The Welshman has an excellent record in Farsø, finishing second in 2014 and sixth last season, and looked set to continue that trend as he got to 13 under and moved ahead of Joakim Lagergren.
The Swede - along with Thomas Pieters and Tom Lewis - had equalled the course record of 62 on day one but with far windier conditions in play, those sort of scores could not be matched on Friday.

Pieters and Lewis both remained well in contention, however, with the Belgian sitting at nine under along with South Africa's Richard Sterne, and Lewis alongside Spain's Adrian Otaegui a shot further back.
Dredge has two European Tour wins to his name but his last came in 2006, although in his current form he could well end that ten-year wait on Sunday afternoon.
Birdies on the second, fifth, sixth, eighth and ninth saw him move ahead and while he dropped a shot on the 13th, he made an excellent up and down on the next.
"You come to courses sometimes and it just seems to suit your eye and I'm comfortable on the greens so you can never explain it," he said. "Golf is always funny and I'm just glad that I'm here and performing.

"I'm delighted with my score. I'm in a good position for the weekend, you know we are halfway through. I've been in a good position a few years ago and got beaten by Marc Warren.

"I feel as though my game is in good shape and weather dependent we will see how it goes, but I know I'm going to have to play well on the weekend to fend off the other guys and hopefully I can do that."
Lagergren was one over par for his round as he stood on the 12th tee but an excellent 25-foot putt on that hole, a birdie on the 14th, and a 15-foot par save on the tough last helped him to a 70.
Pieters played his first two rounds with Darren Clarke and while he showed his scoring ability on Thursday, it was his scrambling and battling that would have impressed the European Ryder Cup Captain in round two.
Bogeys on the first and third saw him slip back but he made three birdies in a row from the sixth before he three-putted the ninth. He then bounced back from a disappointing three-putt par on the 14th with a fantastic chip to save par from a horrible lie on the 15th.
Another clever chip saved another par on the 16th - where Clarke got a rousing reception complete with European flags on Himmerland Hill - and he signed for a level par 71 following a brilliant bunker shot for a save on the last.
SCOTSWATCH: Paul Lawrie matched leader Dredge's second-round 66 in a bogey-free round in which he birdied the fourth, fifth, sixth, 15th and 16th in halves of 33. Paul is now T12 on 136 alongside fellow Aberdonian Richie Ramsay (67-69).
George Murray had a 67 for 137 and a T18 placing. Stephen Gallacher has had a pair of 70s for 140 and a T30 position.
Craig Lee is T41 on 141 (72-69) and David Drysdale had a second-round 73 for 142 and T50.
Scott Jamieson made the cut with nothing to spare on 143 after a second-round slide to a 78, 13 shots more than he required in the first round.
Jamieson had a triple bogey 7 at the fifth in an outward half of 41.
Scots who missed the cut were Marc Warren (71-145), Andrew McArthur (77-146) and Jamie McLeary (70-147).

All seven Scots miss Challenge Tour cut

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
All seven Scots in the field missed the cut at the halfway stage of the European Challenge Tour event at Heythrop Park Resort, Enstone in Oxfordshire today.
Over a par 72 course of 7,108yd, the cut mark - four-under-par 140 - was one of the lowest on the Challenge Tour.
Paul Shields (70-142), Scott Henry (73-143), Ross Kellett (72-143), Jack Doherty (75-143), Peter Whiteford (71-143), Duncan Stewart (73-144) and David Law (73-145) all missed out.
Belgium's Thomas Detry, who had a first-round 60, followed that up with a 67 to lead by four shots with a halfway total of 17-under-par 127.

Belgian Thomas Detry leads by four strokes

FROM THE CHALLENGE TOUR WEBSITE
Thomas Detry kept up his red hot form at Heythrop Park Resort by shooting another bogey-free round to take a four-shot lead after the second round of the Bridgestone Challenge.
The Belgian smashed the course record on day one, firing 12 birdies on his way to a round of 60 and he made another good start in the Oxfordshire countryside with three gains in his first nine holes.
The European Challenge Tour rookie, who has not missed a cut this season, then picked up two further birdies over his next nine holes to sign for a five under par 67 and reach 17 under par overall at the competition’s halfway stage.
And the 23 year old, who only turned professional in June this year, is confident that he can carry on his remarkable scoring over the weekend.
“I just tried to tee off this morning with nothing in my mind and treat it as a new round,” said Detry, who is a former World Amateur Number Eight.
“After a 12 under par round yesterday it was tough to match that level of scoring again with something similar.
“I got off to a pretty slow start after making a par at both the par fives then I hit one close on the par three 15th which got my round going. To go on and make another bogey-free round with five birdies was great and I am so happy to have done that.
“It was actually a lot different to yesterday. Teeing off this morning it was quite cold and breezy and my irons were flying short as well, so it was not easy.
“Other than that the greens were a little bit better this morning and the course is looking in really good shape – I am excited for the weekend.
“Going forward I am just going to try and focus on my own game and try not to think about where I am on the leaderboard. I will do what I have been doing, just keep on going, and recreate what I did today and the day before.
“I think the key will be trying to play without expectations and I will just try to play my own game and put in two more solid rounds of golf.
Detry’s nearest challenger is South Africa’s Thriston Lawrence who made seven birdies and no bogeys to card a seven under par round of 65 and reach 13 under par overall.
Spain’s Scott Fernandez, who played at The Open Championship at Royal Troon this year after coming through a qualifier at Gailes Links, shot the best round of the day with an eight under par 64 to climb up the leaderboard in Oxfordshire.

Fowler and Walker to be USA's World Cup

pairing in Australia

FROM THE AUSTRALIAN GOLF WEBSITE
OUT Bubba Watson, IN Rickie Fowler.
That’s the chief wash-up of some player changes for the World Cup of Golf today.
Tournament officials announced Olympian Fowler would replace Watson as the top player to represent the United States at Melbourne’s Kingston Heath from November 23-27.
Fowler quickly chose US PGA champion Jimmy Walker to be his partner in the two-man team competition.
Argentina’s Emiliano Grillo also withdrew and, after Andres Romero chose not to commit, Grillo’s place was taken by brilliant young Taiwanese golfer C T Pan.
Top-ranked New Zealander Danny Lee confirmed his selection of Olympic team-mate Ryan Fox as his partner for the 58th edition of the World Cup.
Watson had originally been keen to play on the US team and play in Australia, but changed his mind because of scheduling and personal reasons.
“It was a very difficult choice not to play in the World Cup of Golf. I was extremely excited to have the opportunity to represent my country and to play in Australia, a place where I have always enjoyed playing golf,” Watson said.
“Rickie and Jimmy will do a great job as a team and I wish them the best.”
Fowler and Walker will both be playing in the World Cup of Golf for the first time. Fowler, a three-time winner on the US PGA Tour has also won events on the European and Asian Tours.
He begins the FedExCup Playoffs this week at No.28 in the standings with seven top-10 finishes, a season after his win at The Players Championship and later at the Deutsche Bank Championship. He also won the European Tour’s Scottish Open in 2015.
Walker and Fowler were paired together twice at last year’s Presidents Cup, most notably winning over Anirban Lahiri and Thongchai Jaidee 5 and 4.
“Coming off the amazing experience that I had at the Olympics, it’s great to have the chance to put on the red, white and blue again and play for the United States in the World Cup of Golf,” Fowler said.
“Jimmy is not only one of my favourite guys out here on tour, but he is clearly one of the most talented players as well. I think we’ll make a fantastic team and our strengths will work well together. I’ve heard great things about Kingston Heath and can’t wait to get to Australia.”
All of Walker’s six US Tour victories have come in the last three seasons after playing seven seasons without a win.
The top players from the 28 qualifying countries committed to the event on August 16 and have until August 26 to choose their playing partners.
Already, the field for the World Cup of Golf in 2016 has a number of golf’s biggest names joining Fowler and Walker including defending champions Jason Day and Adam Scott, England’s Danny Willett and Lee Westwood and Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama.
The 2016 tournament will return to a 72-hole, stroke play, two-man team event format.  The first and third days of competition will be the foursomes (alternate shot) format and the second and final days are four-ball (better-ball) play.

Four-way tie in Scottish Seniors’ Autumn

Meeting at Nairn Dunbar

By GORDON THOMSON
A dramatic day’s golf at Nairn Dunbar  in the Scottish Seniors Autumn Meeting ended in  a four-way tie on 148 involving Maurice Lindsay (Broughty), Stewart Finnie (Royal Aberdeen), Lindsay Gordon (Turnhouse ) and Robert Smith (Nairn).

Joint overnight leader, Grant McNab (Lundin) was one shot behind on 149 with new senior international cap, Nick Robson (Meldrum House) in sixth place on 150. David Logie (Craigie Hill) finished in a group of five on 151, aided by a hole in one at  the eighth  hole.

Gordon set the early target but dropped shots late on in compiling his 75 for 148. It looked as if Smith would overtake him when he turned in 36 but a disappointing  homeward half of 40 meant he could only draw level.
With the back nine playing increasingly harder as the wind rose, Lindsay and Finnie also dropped shots, returning in 39 and 40 respectively.

Playing in the last match, Grant McNab looked as if he might overtake the leading group or at least join a five-way tie but his chance went with a costly 7 at the long 16th.

The CSS for the day was 75 for the par 72 course.

Laskey wins £10,000 prize for a third time

NEWS RELEASE BY NICK TEALE
Mark Laskey won his third HotelPlanner.com PGA EuroPro Tour title, his first of the season, beating Alex Wrigley by two shots to win the FORE Business Championship on -16 at The Oxfordshire.
Laskey (Brocket Hall/Team Honma) moves up to second on the Race To Desert Springs Order of Merit with the £10,000 win and earns an exemption to Second Stage of European Tour Qualifying School in the process.
The winner, and playing partner Wrigley, began the round tied in the lead at nine under par with Jack Harrison (Wildwood Golf Club) and Craig Hinton (LJD Technology Services). However, Harrison carded a one-over-par final-round 73 to finish tied 8th while Hinton shot a 78 and finished tied 27th.
Hillsborough Golf Club’s Joe Dean shot a final-round 68 to finish third on -11, but as the final pairing played their back nine it was effectively matchplay between Laskey and Wrigley (Hartlepool Golf Club).
The duo stayed neck-and-neck for much of the round but Welshman Laskey birdied the par-three 15th after a tee shot which almost rolled in for an ace.
Both then bogeyed the 17th but having to attack the hole for birdie to force the play-off, Wrigley dropped another shot, making Laskey the victor by two.
“It feels so good to finally get the win,” said Laskey, who wins a brand new Motocaddy S1 Lithium trolley, Bushnell Tour X Range Finder and Bolle Sunglasses as well as the £10,000 first prize.
“Alex and I were both pushing each other along. I knew he was going to keep making birdies so I knew I had to keep doing the same. We weren’t looking at leaderboards but I knew if I could beat Alex it would probably be good enough.
“I holed some crucial putts today. The one at the last, I felt Alex was going to hole his so needed mine, and that was a big putt.
“Getting the Tour School exemption is really good because now I can focus on second stage. We have some good courses coming up; Hawkstone I like and Moor Allerton I have won at before, so I am looking forward to hitting those venues and trying to see out that top five.”
Matthew Cort (Beedles Lake Golf Club; 65, 71, 72) consolidated his position at the top of the rankings with a tied-fifth finish. The top five on the Race To Desert Springs at the end of season earn a category on the 2017 Challenge Tour.
The HotelPlanner.com PGA EuroPro Tour continues with the COBRA PUMA GOLF Championship at Hawkstone Park, starting Wednesday, August 31. Highlights of the FORE Business Championship will air on Sky Sports on Tuesday, September 6.
