Three Lawries in the Scotscraig field: left to right: Sean, Paul and Craig.
Paul Lawrie wins at Scotscraig with
two-under-par 69
Paul Lawrie beat a field of Scottish pros by two shots with a fine round of two-under-par 69 in Monday's Big Johnson's Tour competition at Scotscraig Golf Club, Fife.
It was sponsored by the Paul Lawrie Foundation, Devel Golf and Golf Marker Systems.
On  a surprisingly firm and fiery course, considering the rain there has been this past winter, Paul was two over par on the ninth tee after bogeys at the second and eighth. But the European Tour player covered his last 10 holes in four-under-par, thanks to an eagle 3 at the par-5 ninth and birdies at the 12th and 16th in halves of 35 and 34.
Tartan Tour campaigner Craig Ronald (Carluke) birdied three of the last four holes for a 71 and second place on his own.
Next event on the tour is at Irvine Bogside Golf Club, Ayrshire on June 6. Pros interested in playing should contact organiser John Henry at johnhenry92@hotmail.com

PGA in Scotland NEWS RELEASE by Lee McLaughlin

Tartan Tour Order of Merit tees off with P and H Championship

The 2016 Tartan Tour Order of Merit campaign is set to swing into action in East Lothian later this month.

For the second year in a row, the 54-hole P and H Championship is taking place at the spectacular Renaissance Club on 'Scotland's Golf Coast' on May 23-25.

Last year's event produced a well-deserved victory for Largs-based Paul Robinson, pictured with trophy, with a seven-under-par 206 total.

This will be the event's third staging, having been won by Robert Arnott from Bishopbriggs Golf Range at Dundonald Links in 2014.

The second event on the 2016 Order of Merit schedule will be the Northern Open as it returns to Royal Dornoch on June 21-24.

The event is part of the club's celebrations to mark 400 years of golf at the renowned Sutherland venue.

It will be the ninth time the Northern Open has visited Royal Dornoch but first since 1994.

Chris Kelly defends that title after winning the 2015 event at Cruden Bay with a 13-under-par total of 267.

Next up is the exciting Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open qualifier, which takes place at Moray Old in Lossiemouth on July 2-3.

The inaugural staging of this tournament proved a huge success last summer at North Berwick, where the five qualifiers included local amateur Calum Hill.

Craig Sutherland, who was born in Orkney but is now based in Kent, won it, with Tartan Tour trio Gareth Wright, Greig Hutcheon and Graham Fox the others who progressed to the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open at Gullane.
The lucky quintet on this occasion will earns spots at Castle Stuart as the event returns to the Inverness venue, having been staged there three years in a row from 2011.
August sees two Order of Merit events - the Deer Park Masters in Livingston on 2-3, then the Kerr Investments Pro-Am at Dumfries and Galloway on 27-28.

The campaign then comes to an exciting conclusion with the 100th Scottish PGA Championship on the King's Course at Gleneagles on October 17-20.
Kelly also holds that title after beating Paul McKechnie in a sudden-death play-off at the same venue last year.

PGA in Scotland secretary Shona Malcolm, pictured right, said: “The priority this year was to enhance the quality of the Order of Merit events, providing playing opportunities for PGA members at some of the best and most challenging venues in the country while presenting attractive prize funds.
"There’s no doubt that this year’s tournaments do just that, and we’ll be aiming to use this as a platform to grow the Tartan Tour in terms of the number and variety of events in future seasons.”

She added: “The Tartan Tour has become increasingly competitive in recent years, and its strength in depth means that there will be many players ready to have a tilt at Chris Kelly’s Order of Merit title.
"The standard of play is top class, and I’d encourage golf fans throughout Scotland to come along to the events to watch the golf, support the national tour and engage with Scottish professional golfers.”

Clarke Lutton best of Scots in Thailand

Aberdeen's Clarke Lutton fared best of the three Scots in action in the first round of the MENA Tour event, the Mountain Creek Open, at Nakhon in Thailand today.
Lurron shot a two-over-par 74 with birdies at the 10th and 17th but four bogeys as well to be tied 19th, five shots behind the Spanish leader, Sixto Casabona-Navarro whose 69 gave him a one-stroke lead from five players on the 70 mark.
Dunbar's Daniel Kay had double bogeys at two par-4 holes, the sixth and 10th, on his way to a 76. On the same mark in joint 32nd place is former Scottish U18 boys champion Paul Doherty who had six bogeys between the sixth and the 14th.
Renaissance Club amateur Ben Alexander had three double bogeys in his first six holes and, after turning in 42, returned an 80 for a share of 54th place.
