Callum Shinkwin shoots a 62 to put pressure

on leader Lee at Shenzhen International

FROM THE EUROPEAN TOUR WEBSITE
South Koren Soomin Lee saw his lead cut to two shots in the delayed third round of the Shenzhen International as a brilliant 62 from England's Callum Shinkwin set the clubhouse target to put some pressure on the overnight leader.
The duo have played just 17 European Tour events between them but showed no signs of inexperience on a hectic day at Genzon Golf Club where the forecast thunderstorms never materialised.
Over six and a half hours had been lost on days one and two, meaning 35 players did not start their second rounds until Saturday morning, and Lee will have seven holes to complete in his third on Sunday.

The South Korean was one of the players who managed to complete his second round on Friday and none of those who returned on Saturday morning could reduce his three-shot overnight lead.
Lee had extended that to five after three holes of his third round with a birdie on the second but Shinkwin was stealing the show as he turned in 29 to surge through the field.
The 22 year old had played his entire second round in the morning and was in the final group to finish as he recorded a second consecutive 71 to sit just two shots above the cut-line.
He showed no signs of fatigue, though, and birdied the 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th and 16th with an eagle on the 17th to get into a five-way tie for second at nine under.

Lee Slattery birdied the fourth to get to ten under but Shinkwin joined him on the second and when the M2M Russian Open champion bogeyed the seventh, Shinkwin held second all on his own.
A long curling putt on the difficult fifth cut the gap to three shots and the Englishman also birdied the ninth for what would have been a course record at this event but for the presence of preferred lies.
"Tournament-wise it's my lowest round by three shots, so it's nice to be able to do that," he said.
"To tell the truth, I missed a couple of putts as well but it was a great round.
"I drove the ball great and on the par fives, I took advantage of the good tee shots."
Lee made nine pars in a row after that birdie on the second to get to 14 under and has yet to drop a shot this week as he hunts a first European Tour title after finishing second at the Maybank Championship Malaysia.
"I was a little bit nervous today but it turned out okay because I was chipping it well and I was making short putts so that kept me feeling confident," he said.
"I will just try and hit the fairways and hit the greens and just focus on keeping bogeys off the card.
“This week is really helping my game and my confidence. When I played in Malaysia, I felt very nervous but if I have a chance towards the end tomorrow, I think I will be better this time.”
Joost Luiten had started the third round at ten under but was one over for his round through 11 holes, alongside Paul Dunne who had played 12 and Alexander Levy who had completed 13.
Thorbjørn Olesen was then at eight under after a 67 in his third round, with Bradley Dredge, Sébastien Gros and Eduardo de la Riva all also in that group with holes to complete when play resumes at 6.30am on Sunday morning

Shinkwin charging up leaderboard in China

FROM THE EUROPEAN TOUR WEBSITE
Soomin Lee extended his lead to five shots but was looking over his shoulder at an incredible charge up the leaderboard by Callum Shinkwin as the delayed third round of the Shenzhen International got under way at Genzon Golf Club in China.
Lee was one of the players who managed to complete his second round on Friday as nearly six hours were lost to thunderstorms, and none of those who returned on Saturday morning could reduce his three-shot overnight lead.
A birdie on the second moved the South Korean to 14 under after three holes as nearest challenger Joost Luiten dropped a shot on the same hole, but it was Shinkwin leading the charge from the group at nine under.
The Englishman was in the last group to finish their second round as he recorded a second consecutive 71, but he picked up seven shots in his first eight holes in round three to surge into contention.
Scott Hend, Richie Ramsay and Lee Slattery, who had all performed impressively in the morning, completed the group at nine under, as Lee established a cushion in his search for first European Tour title.

The 22 year old was playing in just his sixth event after securing top tens in his first two, and will be hoping the weather keeps at bay in Guangdong.
Challenge Tour graduate Shinkwin is playing in just his 13th event and recorded birdies on the 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th and 16th with an eagle on the 17th on a day where the early starters had proved low scores were possible.
Hend recorded a 65 as he finished his second round with 16 holes in the morning, the highlight of which was an albatross on the 17th, and he had a third round birdie on the second.
Slattery and Ramsay had both returned to complete rounds of 66 and they had gains on the first and second respectively to move into the group five off the lead alongside Luiten and Shinkwin.
Alexander Levy and Brandon Stone were then at eight under after four holes of their third round, a shot clear of Bradley Dredge, Paul Dunne and Nacho Elvira.

FROM THE PGA WEBSITE
Ryder Cup winning captain Bernard Gallacher was on hand to congratulate the class of 2015 as the shining stars of the PGA Foundation Degree returned to Birmingham for the annual PGA Graduation ceremony.
Gallacher greeted every attendee at the University of Birmingham as they embarked on their fledgling careers in the profession.
By coincidence, it also happened to be a Scottish one-two in the Titleist PGA Assistant of the Year awards. A ‘chuffed’ Keir McNicoll of Gullane Golf Club captured the top honour, which secured him the Whitcombe Cox Trophy a cheque for £3,500 and a personalised golf bag and clubs from Titleist.
Runner-up was Bobby Rushford of Glenbervie Golf Club, who acknowledged fellow Scot and former European Tour player Dean Robertson as his inspiration for taking the degree.
Third place went to Moor Park’s Harriet Key, who was also named the LET Female Assistant of the Year, which secured her the Beverly Lewis Trophy and a cheque for £1,750 to go with the £1,000 for finishing third.
The top second year assistant was Robin Hood Golf Club’s Jamie Carney, who made the short trip from Solihull to collect the Lord Derby trophy and £1,000.
Rookie of the Year went to Hawkstone Park’s Daniel Leeke, who picked the sport back up after seeKing a potential career as professional footballer. He was presented with the Major John Bywaters trophy and a cheque for £1,000.
The PGA training programme, encompassing the three-year Foundation Degree, was founded more than 50 years ago and covers all aspects of golf including business, equipment technology and repairs, rules and tournament organisation, sports science and sports psychology.
Training and education remain an integral part of The PGA - it also runs an honours degree in association with the University of Birmingham and this year has launched a new partnership with the University of Highlands and Islands in Scotland.
Once qualified, PGA Members undergo a process of continual professional development to keep them up to speed with all the latest developments in the sport and wider golf industry.
PGA chief executive Sandy Jones said: “The PGA Graduation day is always inspirational and gives me great confidence each year the game of golf is in good hands for generations to come.
“The quality of the graduates coming through our PGA training programme are second to none and there’s no doubt they are starting at the beginning of their careers which will take them to almost any corner of the world.
“I congratulate each and every one of them for their hard work and effort they have put into obtaining the qualification. I wish them all success wherever the game of golf takes them.”
Matthew Johnson, Titleist brand director, said: “We are pleased to continue our support of the Titleist PGA Assistant of the Year award, recognising this as a starting point of the PGA's commitment to provide its members with a framework for lifelong learning.
“Titleist has had a long standing commitment to PGA professionals, we realise and endorse that they play a key role in the development and growth of the game across all levels, and we are delighted to support the next generation of qualified professionals, we look forward to working with them and would like wish them well with their future careers.”
On a day of recognising achievement, Foxhills’ Scott Sellars took top spot in the equipment technology exams.
Former Assistant of the Year Sarah Walton (Kington) was back at the Great Hall, having achieved Director of Golf status. Poultwood’s Rupert Valentine also collected his Director of Golf award.
Tutor Jerry Hayes had a special presentation after retiring from the education programme, while Greg Brodie and Rick Valentine collected their PGA Level 4 certificates.

Brendan Steele takes 3-shot lead in Texas Open

CBSSports.com wire reports

SAN ANTONIO (AP) - Brendan Steele completed an 8-under 64 in the morning and shot a 70 in the second round Friday to take a three-stroke lead in the Texas Open.
''You always want to keep going when you're feeling good,'' said Steele, who was 8 under through 13 holes Thursday when first-round play was stopped because of darkness.
''The ball was going a long way in the afternoon. Really good conditions. ... Come out this morning early and little bit colder and try to re-gather that momentum was a little bit different.''
The 2011 winner at TPC San Antonio for his lone tour title, Steele had a 10-under 134 total.
''I always feel good here,'' Steele said. ''I know the shots. The course sets up really well for me. Kind of plays into my strength, which is usually driving the ball.
''And so to see it play a little bit softer and with a little less wind, my eyes kind of lit up. It always plays so difficult, firm and fast and the winning score is just a handful under par usually. To see it soften up a little bit, I knew it was good.''
Play was suspended because of darkness with 13 players left on the course. The schedule was thrown off Thursday morning with a 3 1/2-hour rain delay.
Scott Langley, Stuart Appleby and Charley Hoffman were tied for second. Langley shot 68, Appleby 70, and Hoffman 71. Appleby rallied after four-putting from 7 feet for a triple bogey on his opening hole.
''I was swatting at it - a golf ball got in the way,'' Appleby was able to joke. ''I was doing like when Seve (Ballesteros) had a four-putt many years ago. I asked him, `How did you have a four-putt?' He said ''I miss. I miss. I miss. I make.'''
Patrick Reed (73) was 6 under along with Ricky Barnes (70), Jon Curran (68), Sung Kang (67), Spencer Levin (69), Peter Malnati (71), Ryan Palmer (70) and Mark Wilson (69).
''I feel like I hit a couple of loose shots,'' said Reed, who was born in San Antonio. ''The game feels solid. Just the ball striking a little bit.''
Branden Grace, the RBC Heritage winner last week in South Carolina, shot his second round 72 to make the cut on the number.
Defending champion Jimmy Walker missed the cut with rounds of 75 and 77. Phil Mickelson also dropped out, shooting 77-71.
''I don't feel bad about the physical game, the ball coming off the blade,'' Mickelson said. ''The swing is on plane. I need better mental focusing, seeing the shot before I step into it.''
Former SMU star Bryson DeChambeau also missed the cut in his second pro start, shooting 74-73.
