LIAM JOHNSTON FROM DUMFRIES LEADS BY

TWO AT HALFWAY IN CHAMPIONS' TOURNEY

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Liam Johnston made the long journey to Fife from Dumfries worthwhile with rounds of 66 and 63 for a 13-under-par halfway aggregate of 129 and a two-shot lead in the Scottish Champion of Champions Tournament, organised by the Leven Golfing Society, over the Leven links.

Dumfries and County Golf Club member Johnston's second-round, eight-under 63 was not the best on a day of low scoring.
Last year's Leven Gold Medal winner, Barry Hume (Haggs Castle) shot a 10-under 61 in the morning. Preferred lies are in operation at the tournament so Barry's score cannot be considered a course record.
Hume required 10 strokes more in the second round and a 71 for 132 dropped him to a share of third place with last year's Scottish amateur champion,  left-hander Robert MacIntyre (Glencruitten) (65-67).
The unheralded David Morrison (Duff House Royal) moved up through the field withrounds of 67 and 64 to be two shots off the pace in second place on 131.
