By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Grantown on Spey's Duncan Stewart, now based in Edinburgh and playing out of Turnhouse Golf Club, shot a best of the final day round of three-under-par 69 to tie for third place in this week's MENA Tour event, the El Jadida Championship at Royal Golf El Jadida, Morocco.
Stewart stepped up a great after pedestrian rounds of 73 and 74 to surge up the leaderboard. He had six birdies - at the long first, sixth, eighth, 10th, 11th and 12th in halves of 35-34. He bogeyed the short fourth, fifth and short 13th.
The Highlander, who earned US $3,497 for his performance, finished five shots behind the winner, Englishman Andrew Marshall whose closing 72 was enough to take him past the faltering overnight leader Florian Praegant (Austria).
Marshall shot 70-69-73 for five-under 211, two ahead of Praegant who had scores fo 68, 69 and 76.
Neil Fenwick from Dunbar tied for fifth place on 218 with scores of 72, 74 and 72. Fenwick had three 6s on his final card, at the first, third (a double bogey) and the 18th which diminished his bag of five birdies

OVERALL SUMMARY by VIREN VARMA

Two shots behind going into the final round, Marshall and Praegant were engaged in a nip-and-tuck battle, but the former European Tour star came through with two birdies in his last three holes.
Praegant had his chances to close the deal, but he stumbled coming home, dropping five shots between 13 and 17 holes, including a double-bogey on the 16th, and that made all the difference.
“I'm really happy and ecstatic to win my first event on the MENA Golf Tour. Morocco has been very good to me,” said Marshall after receiving the winner’s trophy and a cheque for $9,000.

‘Nine is fine’

March 30th, 2016

This is the slogan of ‘Quick Golf,’ to be launched in Scotland at the beginning of May.
As more and more players face pressures on their time, Quick Golf offers a solution for regular players and those new to the game. Play is open to both men and women (with or without a handicap) and takes place at the beautiful Dunkeld and Birnam Golf Club in Perthshire with a quick nine holes available at the value price of just £5 for non-members.
I am confident that many other venues are thinking along similar lines and would be delighted to have more information to share with our readers.

Australian Masters called off as IMG

reassess the event

Peter Senior poses in his golden jacket with the Australian Masters trophy after winning the event last year
Peter Senior poses in his golden jacket with the Australian Masters trophy after winning the event last year

FROM SKYSPORTS.COM
The Australian Masters will not be held this year while tournament organisers IMG reassess the event as they revamp their golf business.
The tournament has been held in November or December since 1979 with a gold jacket awarded to the winner.
Greg Norman became synonymous with the event in its earlier years, winning it six times from 1981 to 1990.
It was won by Tiger Woods in 2009, while Colin Montgomerie (2001), Justin Rose (2006) and Ian Poulter (2011) are also former winners.
Australian veteran Peter Senior claimed the title at Huntingdale Golf Club in Melbourne last year.
"As part of IMG's ongoing evolution of its golf events business, the company is in the process of reimagining its Australian Masters event to ensure the delivery of a world-class experience," IMG said in a statement.
"To best execute a change of this scale, IMG today announced that the Australian Masters will not be played in 2016. IMG will unveil its new plans for the event in the coming months."
