Harburn amateur wins Edinburgh and East

Alliance Trophy at Falkirk

REPORT FROM ALAN GREENSHIELDS
Despite a gloomy forecast,  a snow-free Falkirk Tryst course provided a welcome game to 70 Edinburgh and East Alliance members on this winter of testing weather.
The silverware up for grabs today was The Alliance Trophy and, like last week, the result went down to a count back on the inward nine holes with again a half-shot deciding the winner.
On the par 70 (36-34) course there were three gross scores of 67 and top scratch prize was shared  by Neil Henderson (Renaissance Club) (35-32), Ross Munro (Duddingston) (33-34) and Duncan Stewart (Turnhouse) (32-35).
Neil Henderson, just back from a win in Florida, looked like he might secure the trophy with his two under par inward nine of 32 but, on 31.5 with a back nine of level par 34 less 2.5, a five-handicap Harburn amateur Robin Cockburn will see his name on The Alliance Trophy for 2016.
Robin was top handicap prize winner with net 67 (72 less 5) with second place going to Paul Porteous (Longniddry) on 69 (73 less 4). Third spot went four ways to David Brydon (Torwoodlee) (75 less 5), John Masterton (Mortonhall) (79 less 9), Robert Pelling (Craigielaw) (82 less 12) and Alan Stronach (Falkirk Tryst) (83 less 13).
Top Trainee was Marc Owenson (Gullane) on 72.
Top Senior was Alastair Love (Mortonhall) with net 70 (76 less 6)

Order of Merits see the top three in both doing some swapping of places -
Scratch Order of Merit now reads:
1. Duncan Stewart (Turnhouse) - 461.5
2. Craig Gordon (Edinburgh Golf Centre) - 456.0
3. Andy Marshall (Houston Golf Range) - 431.5

Handicap Order of Merit now -
1. Robin Cockburn (Harburn) - 130.5
2. Paul Porteous (Longniddry) - 127.5
3. Ron Grant (Baberton) - 116.5

Next week we head for the penultimate outing of the season at Longniddry.
