John Duff scores third win at Spey Bay as NE

Alliance title defence approaches

JOEL HOPWOOD REPORTING
North-east Alliance champion John Duff (Newmachar) will be defending the title next month and he is running into form at just the right time with a third victory of the 2015-16 season on a great winter's day for golf at a Spey Bay Golf Club links in immactulate condition on the Moray Firth coastline today.

Duff, pictured, headed a field of 66 players with a five-under-par round of 65, winning by one stroke from Fraserburgh amateur Gordon Munro.

Duff's bag of seven birdies came at the the third, sixth, seventh, ninth, 14th 16th and 18th in halves of 33 (two under par) and 32 (three under). He bogeyed the first and fourth.

Munro had a bogey-free 66 with birdies at the third, ninth, 15th and 17th.
Kevin Duncan (Paul Lawrie GC), winner of last week's Alliance fixture at Newburgh and lying send behind Duff in the Brimmond Bistro scratch table in the NE Alliance Order of Merit, could do no better than finished T19 today with a seven-over-par 77 which included a 9 and a 7.
Duff, therefore, increased his lead over Duncan with time getting short to win one of the 1-2-3 prizes, sponsored by Craibstone Golf Club's in-house, open-to-the-public restaurant, in the scratch and two handicap tables.
There was a tie for third place on level par 70 between Royal Aberdeen's senior assistant pro Joel Hopwood and Keil Beveridge (Kippie Lodge)
John Hosie (Kemnay) won Class 2 by virtue of a better inward half than Nigel Parker (Murcar Links). They both had net 70s off their handicaps of 14 apiece.
The decisive blow was struck by Hosie who had a hole in one at the 15th (117yd) using a pitching wedge.
Les Fowler (Royal Aberdeen) won Class 2 with a 67 off seven.

Jordan Findlay sets up base in Tennessee to

play US mini tours

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Fraserburgh's Jordan Findlay - twice a finalist and once a winner in the British boys' championship - has returned to the United States where he spent four years at East Tennessee State University and met his wife-to-be Tara, also a student at ETSU.
They are now based at Johnson City, Tennessee.
"My season starts mid-March. I'm living in the USA now and I will be playing mostly on mini tours over here this year such as the swingthought.com Tour (formerly the Hooters Tour) and also competing in Monday qualifiers for the Web.com Tour," Jordan told www.scottishgolfview.com

"However, I do plan on playing some events in the UK later on in the summer. "

Final word from Paul Lawrie:
"Jordan is still attached to Paul Lawrie Golf Centre and will continue to be supported by the PLF this year.
"Of course  everyone at PLGC and PLF wish Jordan all the best with his golf in America this year and look forward to seeing him when he comes over to the uk in the summer."

Matthew Cort cards 66 to lead at La Manga

SCROLL DOWN TO END OF ARTICLE FOR LINK TO FULL SCOREBOARD

NEWS RELEASE
The PGA of Great Britain and Ireland’s Matthew Cort leads the way after a five-under 66 in Round 2 of the 2016 La Manga Club International Pro-Am in Spain, securing a buffer of three shots heading into the final round.
Calmer conditions favoured competitors for Day 2 at La Manga Club and the scores certainly reflected that, with both the Professional Individual and Pro-Am standings being tightly poised, promising an exciting and tense finish to the tournament.
Leading the way in the Individual Professional event is Matthew Cort who continued on from where he left off in Round 1 with five birdies on the front nine of the club’s North Course.
“I’ve not played the North Course for a few years so it was almost like playing blind,” said Cort.  “My team are doing well in the team event so there’s a chance to really compete on both sides so I’ll just try to enjoy it.”
On the back nine one solitary blemish on the card on the 13th hole was promptly cancelled out by a birdie on 17 resulting in the lead at the close of play and a three-shot cushion over fellow 2015 Golfbreaks.com Four-ball Champion, Craig Shave (PGA of GB&I).
Cort is also chasing a PGAs of Europe treble, having already won the Golfbreaks.com Four=ball Championship with Craig Shave in 2015, along with the PGA Professional Championship of Europe in October.
Shave meanwhile remains in touching distance of Cort after two one-under par nines resulted in a 69 (-2) and a 143 (-1) total.
Finishing off the top-three is Ireland's Brendan McGovern, whose round of 70 (-1) took him to even par for the tournament and hot on the heels of Cort and Shave ahead of the final round.
In the Team Pro-Am it was all change at the top and the team led by McGovern closed the three-point deficit, earning a slender lead heading into the final round.

An excellent team effort saw McGovern’s team sign for a total of 166 (-22) and a one point lead over Cort’s team who signed for an impressive 10 under par and a 165 point total (-21).
