The Torrey Pines golf courses, San Diego, California home of the rain-interrupted Farmers Insurance Open, suffered significant damage in an overnight Sunday-Mondat windstorm.
A winter storm dumped rain and snow across San Diego County City golf manager Mark Marney told the San Diego Union Tribune that as many as 20 trees were felled by wind on the North and South courses.
At least two prized Torrey pines were among the victims, he said. Winds gusted to at least 60 mph along the coast, according to reports.
The weather caused three stoppages of play on Sunday, and play was delayed Monday due to clean-up operations. An iconic 75ft eucalyptus fell onto the fairway at the par-4 15th, according to the Union-Tribune.
"It's devastating," Marney said to the newspaper as he watched workers cutting up the tree.
