North-east Alliance report and scores

Greg McBain wins at Peterhead with a

six-under 64 after birdie-birdie-eagle finish!

JOEL HOPWOOD REPORTING
Greg McBain (Paul Lawrie Golf Centre) scored his second win of the North-east Golfers' Alliance season with a six-under-par 64 putting him at the head of a Peterhead field of 82 who had to endure a mixed bag of weather.

McBain, a winner at Montrose at the end of October, staged a grandstand finish of birdie-birdie-eagle to win the £100 first prize by a stroke from the ever consistent John Duff (Newmachar).

Terry Mathieson (Murcar Links) was third with bogey-free halves of 33.

Even though McBain had birdies at the second, fourth and seventh, with a solitary bogey at the third, he trailed Duff at the end of nine holes, having taken 33 shots to his rival's 31 which featured birdies at the second, fourth, fifth and eighth

But McBain turned the tables with an inward half of 31 to Duff's 34. Duff's fifth birdie, at the 12th, in a bogey-free round put him three shots clear of McBain until the latter had a birdie 2 at the short 16th, a birdie 3 at the 17th, and the tournament-winning eagle 3 at par-5 last.

Full scorecards for the top 5 scratch prizes can be found beneath the scoreboard.

CLASS 1
This weeks Class 1 winner was Inverallochy's Brian Ritchie, he shot a fantastic gross 70 for a nett 67. He beat three players by a single shot, all with the same gross and nett totals, these were Alan Gall (Deeside), Manson Merchant (Newmachar) and Scott Mackie (Kemnay) who finished 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively with their 73 gross, nett 68s. Peterculter's Jim Scott completed the top 5 with a nett 69.

CLASS 2
Stephen Ross (Hazlehead) has once again won the Class 2 section with superb scoring, his nett 63 saw him win by two clear shots from Douglas Booth (Tarland). In third place was Kemnay's R Brown with a nett 70, whilst David Bisset (Banchory) came 4th and Ben Lumsden (Northern) came 5th with their nett 71s.
