RENFREWSHIRE GOLFERS REWARDED

FOR THEIR SEASON’S EFFORTS

RENFREWSHIRE GOLF UNION PRESS RELEASE
The performances of three Renfrewshire golfers during the season have been recognized with two of them being selected to represent Great Britain and Ireland in the Concession Cup in Florida next April and one being named as Boy Golfer of the Year by Renfrewshire Golf Union.

Matthew Clark has been selected as one of the mid amateurs and Ronnie Clark as a senior member of the eighteen man squad.  Both selections were based on their respective Order of Merit rankings and they are looking forward to some early sunshine next year.

Bridge of Weir’s Jamie Stewart was unanimously named as Boy Golfer of the Year as he has had a magnificent season.
In addition to winning the Scottish Junior Champion of Champions and representing Scotland at international level, his winning performance at Arbroath in the Scottish under 16 Championship was probably the highlight.  His scores of 65, 66, 69 and 65 added up to the lowest aggregate recorded in the Championship in its 32 year history.  Jamie, pictured, works hard on his game and had to be persuaded to leave a dark golf course to receive his trophies.  He had been unable to attend the annual prize giving because of Scottish Golf commitments.

Congratulations to all three and best wishes to Matt and Ronnie for Florida next year.

Gunn copes with 80 degree Florida heat to match par of 71 at Web.com Tour Q School

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Arizona-based Dornoch exile Jimmy Gunn coped well with an 80 degree temperature in Florida to match the par of 71 in the first round of the Web.com Tour School final tournament at PGA National, Palm Beach Gardens  today.
With half the field of 155 still to finish, Gunn was lying joint 81st.
All the competitors who have made it through to this stage are guaranteed membership of the Web.com Tour in 2016. How many tournaments they will have access to will be decided by the finishing order after 72 holes.
Gunn, starting at the 10th, was two over par after only five holes, with bogeys at the 11th and 14th, but he covered the remaining 13 holes in two under par with birdies at the long 18th and par-4 second hole.
Englishman David Skinns did not do so well. He had a six-over 77 to be sharing 151st place.
Setting the pace with a seven-under 64 was Canada's Adam Svennson, a shot ahead of Americans Rick Lamb and T J Vogel.

Schniederjans, Pan one back at Web.com Tour Q-School

Two former World No. 1 amateurs rose to the occasion on Thursday at Web.com Tour Q-School.
Ollie Schniederjans and Cheng Tsung Pan posted matching 6-under 66s in Round One on PGA National's Fazio Course to open with one of the lead at the pressure cooker event.
The star former amateur duo only trails Canada's Adam Svensson (Champion Course) and the U.S.'s Rick Lamb (Fazio) through 18 holes.
“I hit it exceptional all day today,” said Svensson, who turned professional earlier this year and finished ninth on the Mackenzie Tour Order of Merit. “I had a couple of nice putts drop there in the end including a tricky right-to-left putt on the ninth that somehow ended up rolling in.”
The top 45 finishers and ties over 72 holes this week in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., will earn their Web.com Tour cards for 2016. But, only the winner (or co-winners) are fully-exempt, with finishers 2-10 (and ties) susceptible to the third reshuffle and finishers 11-45 (and ties) susceptible to the second reshuffle of 2016.
The youth movement, so far, appears to be in line for the best status.
Schniederjans, 22, and Pan, 24, are both regarded as young guns with a bright future in golf, and the Canadian leader, at age 21, actually is the youngest of the trio.
Schniederjans and Pan are the bigger names, though, and their paths to this point since turning pro are remarkably different. It was a tour of PGA Tour sponsor's exemptions for Schniederjans after he moved to the paid ranks in July. Two top-25s in four starts, though, wasn't enough to earn him a spot in Web.com Tour Finals, and the Georgia Tech product needed a massive comeback at Web.com Tour Q-School Stage II to make it to the final stage ... on the number. Without that late surge (and advancement to final stage), Schniederjans would have no shot at status on either the Web.com or PGA Tour for 2016.
But he did make it to this week. And Schniederjans pulled out another clutch stretch Thursday with six birdies in eight holes on his back nine for 66. Apparently the positive vibes at PGA National stem back to his junior days.
"I played the Polo Invitational out here that I won actually," Schniederjans said. "It's actually the biggest junior tournament I've ever won. So I have good memories out here."
Meanwhile, Pan, who turned pro a month before in June, took up residence on the Mackenzie Tour for the latter part of 2015 and only posted two wins and a third in his restricted time. Pan, via just seven starts, finished second on the Tour's money list and earned his Web.com Tour card in the process (he's at Q-School final stage to up his status).
"I'm really happy with my play, my iron play is good. Everything went well," Pan said. "I'm really enjoying it, and looking forward to shooting some more low scores here, hopefully."
T.J. Vogel and Austin Cook, the Monday qualifying leader, are also at 6 under through 18 holes.
Kyle Jones, a 2015 American Palmer Cup team member, posted 4-under 67 at the Champions and sits T-15. Jack Maguire, who recently left Florida State and plans to turn pro after advancing to final stage, posted 1-under 71 (Fazio) for T-56.

Scotland and France joint leaders with a round

to go in PGAs of Europe team championship

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Graham Fox still leads the individual scoreboard but Scotland have been joined by France in a share of the lead with one round to go in the PGAs of Europe international team championship at Gloria Golf Club, Belek in southern Turkey.
Fox contributed a one-under-par 71 and Gareth Wright a 69 for a Scotland best of three (David Orr had a non-counting 72) third-day team score of 140.
France had started the third day three shots behind the Scots but their third-round tally of 137 enabled them to draw level.
It looks a straight fight between Scotland - defending champions and eight times title winners in all - and France as they are three shots clear of third-placed Ireland (423) with Wales (424) and England (425) coming next in the leaderboard.
Fox's 54-hole aggregate of 10-under-par 206 gives him a one-shot lead over Italy's Luca Beneduce and Welshman Sion Bebb.

PGAs OF EUROPE NEWS RELEASE

France not only dressed to impress in the third round of the PGAs of Europe International Team Championship but played golf to match.
In doing so, they set up a final round showdown with Scotland over the Old Course at Gloria Golf Club in the Turkish resort of Belek.
Sporting patriotic red, white and blue attire bought from the club shop, the French posted their best round of the tournament to share the lead with the defending champions on 12-under.
It also returned them to pole position, the berth they occupied on day one after their previous best of five-under put them a stroke clear of the 23 team-strong field pursuing the €6,000 first prize.
Then, Michael Altmeyer had been their star performer with a round of six-under. This time Raphael Eyraud and Arnaud Verhaege, followed suit.
The former posted four-under while the latter weighed in with three-under for what was his first contributing score of the tournament.
“I was one-over and four-over in the first and second rounds, so it’s good to contribute this time,” he said.  “It was a good round for us today – let’s hope we can do the same tomorrow and have the French flag flying over the clubhouse.”
Explaining his team’s choice of clothing, Verhaege added: “The ones we were meant to wear didn’t arrive so we bought replacements from the club shop – the choice of colours was deliberate.”
Article-Header-Images_2015-ITC_Arnaud-Verhaeghe_01
Verhaege’s three-under was matched by Gareth Wright of Scotland and with Graham Fox, the scourge of both the Old and New Courses, having a relatively quiet day with a round of one-under, the French erased a three-stroke deficit.
That is the advantage the joint leaders have over Ireland but, with the best two scores from three counting, it is a slender one. Similarly, Wales on eight-under, and England, a stroke further back, are very much in the mix.

Wales were indebted to Sion Bebb who posted his second successive five-under-par round of 67, a score that puts him level with Italy’s Luca Beneduce on nine-under individually for the tournament, one behind Fox.
Meanwhile, the conclusion of the International Team Shield, the competition for teams representing a PGA with 100 members or fewer, looks set to be as competitive as the main tournament.
Host nation Turkey have led the tournament within a tournament from day one but their advantage over Poland going into the final round is just four strokes.

Rory McIlroy wins  November's European

Tour golfer of month award

EUROPEAN TOUR COMMUNICATIONS
Rory McIlroy’s victory in the season-ending DP World Tour Championship, Dubai – which helped secure a third Race to Dubai crown in four years – has earned the Northern Irishman the Hilton European Tour Golfer of the Month award for November.
McIlroy’s affinity for Dubai, and in particular the Earth Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates, was once again in evidence as he edged a thrilling final round duel with Andy Sullivan to claim the European Tour’s season finale for the second time, following his victory in 2012, and with it the Harry Vardon Trophy.
The World No 3 entered the last day with a one stroke deficit behind Sullivan, but ultimately held off the Englishman’s challenge, courtesy of a closing round of 66 which included a “career-best” bogey at the par three 17th hole where, after his tee shot had found the greenside lake, McIlroy maintained his lead in dramatic fashion by holing a putt from 30 feet.
With his win, McIlroy, who has now finished outside the top five just once in seven appearances in the DP World Tour Championship, became the seventh player to be crowned Europe’s No 1 in back-to-back years, and the fifth – after Colin Montgomerie (eight), Seve Ballesteros (six), Peter Oosterhuis and Sandy Lyle (both three) – to win the money list three or more times.

Donaldson sizzles with a 63 in Thailand

Championship

  ASIAN TOUR NEWS RELEASE
Chonburi, Thailand: Welshman Jamie Donaldson set the stage alight with a sizzling nine-under-par 63 to take the first round lead at the Thailand Golf Championship held at the Amata Spring Country Club on Thursday.
The Welshman was clearly a man on fire as he brilliantly navigated his way around the 7,453 yards, par-72 course by marking his flawless card with nine birdies to take pole position at the US$1 million Asian Tour event.
Thailand’s Chanat Sakulpolphaisan, a recent Asian Development Tour (ADT) winner, and Chinnarat Phadungsil spearheaded the home charge by returning with matching 66s to share second place with Spain’s Sergio Garcia.
Donaldson, who is making his debut at the Thailand Golf Championship, stormed off the blocks quickly with four straight birdies from his opening front-nine first.
After turning in 32, he made his homeward run even more remarkable with birdies on holes 10, 14, 15, 17 and 18.
“I played really good all day and I couldn’t really do anything wrong. I just need to continue this form for the next few days and not concentrate on things that are out of my control or ahead of me.
“I just want to stay in the present as they say and take it one day at a time,” said Donaldson.
Chanat, who lifted his maiden ADT title in Malaysia last month, showed how valuable his winning experience was when he surged ahead of the morning pack with four birdies in his opening five holes.
He dropped a shot on 16 but came back strongly with three birdies in his closing four holes.
“Winning on the ADT last month has given me a huge confidence boost. It was also a platform for me to hone my skills and improve my mental game.
“I hit my driver really well and missed only one fairway and two greens. I putted well and also made a lot of birdies,” said Chanat.
Despite arriving home late from Japan, Chinnarat showed no signs of lethargy as he ensured a strong Thai presence atop the leaderboard.
Chinnarat’s only blemish came at the par-five 15 where he double-bogeyed but otherwise it was a good round for the three-time Asian Tour winner.
“I hit the ball really well despite not having any practice rounds as I just returned from the Japan Golf Tour Q-School yesterday.
“My tee shots and approach shots were solid. I made four birdies in a row to turn in 32 and managed to build on that momentum by sinking three straight birdies after the turn. Although I had double-bogey on 15, it’s still ok as overall, I’m glad with how I played today,” said the 27-year-old.
Garcia also set out his intent on winning again with yet another commanding performance especially with his back-nine 31.
Fresh off his victory in Vietnam last week, the Spaniard mixed two birdies and a bogey for an outward 35.
After dropping another shot on 10, he roared back into life with six birdies to stay three shots back of Donaldson.
“I’m definitely happy. It was wonderful back nine and I’m obviously delighted with shooting five-under there.
“I am feeling good. It hit some very good shots throughout the day and I feel like I’m in a good position going into the next day,” said Garcia.
