Hero World Challenge in Bahamas

Bubba Watson's repeats Paul Casey's  record

  for two-stroke lead

FROM THE US PGA TOUR WEBSITE
NASSAU, Bahamas (AP) -- Bubba Watson, pictured, holed out with a 7-iron for eagle, made seven birdies and tied the course record with a 9-under 63 today to take a two-shot lead over Paul Casey going into the final round of the Hero World Challenge.
Left-hander Watson tied the record at Albany Golf Club that had been set 10 minutes earlier by Casey, who had nine birdies on a clean card.
It was an example of what can happen with a world-class field on a course that featured pure greens and virtually no wind. The tee times were moved up to avoid afternoon thunderstorms, and most of the 18-man field had its way with the Ernie Els design.
"As we're seeing, when there's no wind -- light wind -- we can score," Watson said. "We're all good players, don't get me wrong. We're all top 50 in the world. But with no wind, this golf course is a little bit easier to make birdies. Obviously, 20 mile-an-hour winds, this golf course becomes a beast."
Watson was at 19-under 197, one short of the 54-hole tournament record Jordan Spieth set last year at Isleworth in Florida.
Watson initially turned down his spot in this week’s field, fearing he wouldn’t be able to complete the paperwork in time for his children to travel with him, but later replaced Jason Day when he withdrew from the event.
This is the first time the World Challenge is being played at Albany after one year at Isleworth and 14 years at Sherwood Country Club in California.
Spieth, in a three-way tie for the lead with Jimmy Walker and Bill Haas at the start of the day, had a 68 and fell four shots behind.
"I shot 68 and got lapped," Spieth said. "It was a day where you really needed to shoot lower. Par for the course is 5 under, especially in these conditions."
Casey made nine birdies in his opening 13 holes, and then had to settle for par for a third straight day on the reachable par-4 14th. He is among four players who have yet to win anywhere in the world this year.
"There's multiple reasons, about four really good reasons," he said about the importance of winning. "Five if you count (Christmas) shopping."
Even with the low scoring, Watson didn't get that much separation. Chris Kirk and Patrick Reed each had a 66 and were three shots behind, followed by Spieth and Haas, who also had a 68.
Woods is the tournament host and followed along the final group throughout the front nine, occasionally giving good friend and NBC Sports reporter Notah Begay a lift.
Watson started the third round one shot behind and made up ground in a hurry with birdies on the first two holes. He faced a little wind from 168 yards in the fairway on No. 4 and chose to take off a little on his 7-iron, which turned out to be a wise move when he holed it for eagle.
He never saw it go in, and there isn't much of a gallery this week.
"I heard a yell," he said. "At least it wasn't my mom yelling. I heard somebody."
Reed was going nowhere with one birdie on the front nine when he saw the scores and figured he better get in gear. Wrapping up his worldwide tour, Reed ran off three straight birdies and then had an eagle on the par-5 15th to get back in the game.
"I finally made a putt and it just kind of propelled me from there," he said.
Spieth is playing his final round of the year Sunday, and he said he would fire at every flag.
"It will be a sprint," he said. "And then relief."
Justin Rose, who now makes his primary home at Albany, finally got it going until a triple bogey on the 18th dropped him to a 70. He was 16 shots behind.

Sergio Garcia in the mix with a round to go

      ASIAN TOUR NEWS RELEASE
Ho Tram, Vietnam: Chinese Taipei’s Lin Wen-tang overcame an early wobble to post a three-under-par 68 for a two-shot lead over Spaniard Sergio Garcia and Shaun Norris of South Africa after the third round of the US$1.5 million Ho Tram Open in Vietnam today.
The 41-year-old Lin had  a bogey and double bogey in his opening four holes at The Bluffs Ho Tram Strip before fighting back with six birdies for a three-day total of 13-under-par 200 total in this inaugural Asian Tour tournament.
World number 12 Garcia endured a topsy-turvy day as well en route to a 68 which kept him in the chase for a first title of the year alongside Norris, who charged into contention with a 65 in Vietnam’s richest sporting event, dubbed Asia’s Grandest Stage.

Russell Knox back in the groove with a 68 but 11 shots off the pace

     Aussie Leishman clickety-clicks to lead

    Nedbank Challenge

    EUROPEAN TOUR COMMUNICATIONS
Australian Marc Leishman, pictured today, charged to the top of the  leaderboard in the third round of the Nedbank Golf Challenge with a six-under-par 66, but he will have the imposing figure of Henrik Stenson breathing down his neck on the final day.
Leishman, who lost in a play-off for The Open Championship this year, birdied the last two holes for a 14 under par total at the Gary Player Golf and Country Club in Sun City, South Africa, one shot ahead of World Number 7 Stenson, who led for most of the day until two bogeys in the last three holes undid his earlier progress.
Still feeling the effects of a virus, Stenson, who won here in 2008, ultimately signed for a 70, which kept him three clear of third-placed South African Jaco Van Zyl, who birdied the last for a level par 72.
American Robert Streb also shot a 72 to lie fourth on nine under, two clear of Austrian Bernd Wiesberger and South African Branden Grace.

Russell Knox is T15 after a 68 for 213. His second-round 76 killed any chance he had of winning on his first appearance since becoming a member of the European Tour so that he could earn Ryder Cup qualifying points.
    Quotes
    Marc Leishman
“It was a good day. I got the speed of the greens a lot better today. I’d been nssing a lot of putts low all week from hitting them a bit soft, so I fixed that today and managed to hole some putts. It was a great way to finish.

I saw Henrik was getting away a little bit so I had to try to do something to make it interesting for tomorrow. I’ve been in this position a few times in big events so it’s great to draw on that experience. I’ve come up short a couple of times but I’ve won tournaments before and I’m looking forward to having a chance tomorrow.”
    Henrik Stenson
“I was feeling better when I started but playing in 38 degrees certainly takes it out of you, so after the first ten, 11 holes I was really struggling. I tried to make up some ground, which I did, but I gave it back in the last three holes.

All in all I didn’t play very well today and the short game and the putter kept the score together and that’s why I’m still at the races tomorrow. I made a lot of good par saves and played a lot of goof bunker shots.
The whole front nine was kind of adventurous. The winds were swirling round so much it makes Amen Corner at Augusta look like a standstill. This was as tricky as it gets. You get three different wind directions in 30 seconds. I’ll be resting up tonight and hopefully I can play a bit better tomorrow and see what it brings us.”
    Jaco Van Zyl
“I don’t feel like I’m out of it by any means. But to win an event, you kind of need a couple of lucky breaks and things need to turn around for me. I’ve got to make them turn around. It’s a combination of will, determination and what the golfing gods throw at you on the day.
“I’m just fighting the swing a little bit. It’s just not quite on song. And it’s 36 degrees out there, it’s week six in a row for me, so all of those things do start adding up at the end pf the year and the last thing you want to do is be out there fighting your swing and fighting the golf course.”

Max Orrin wins Mauritius Masters play-off

Englishman Max Orrin won the Mauritius Golf Masters at Anahita today at the first hole of a sudden death play-off against France's Francois Calmels after they had tied on nine-under-par 207 at the end of 54 hole tournament at the Four Seasons Golf Club.
Orrin, 21-year-old 2013 Walker Cup player from Margate, Kent,  made most of the running over the three days with rounds of 67 and 69 but his final round of 71 gave Calmels the chance to close the gap with a 69 after earlier rounds of 70 and 68. Orrin, who won on the Challenge Tour in 2014 and again this year, collected 13,350 euros, Calmels 9,600 euros.

Howell and Widegren share PGAs of Europe

    Beko Classic lead in Turkey

NEWS RELEASE FROM PGAs of EUROPE

The 2015 Beko Classic is set for an exciting finale after a thrilling second round at Antalya, southern Turkey.
Setting the early clubhouse lead was five-time European Tour winner, David Howell, who shot a joint tournament best score of 68 (-4) on his way to signing for a 36 hole total of 138 (-6).
Three straight birdies from the first got his round off to a flying start and with one solitary bogey being the only blemish on his card, a further two birdies on the back nine put the pressure back on to Round 1 leader, Pontus Widegren.
PGA of Sweden Tour Professional and European Tour Member, Widegren, carried on from where he signed off with four birdies and just one bogey in his round of 69 to join Howell in the overnight lead.
With the top-four Professionals being separated by just two shots the chasing pack look set to ensure a close finish.
In third place is James Heath after an exciting second round that consisted of an eagle, two birdies and one solitary bogey that leaves him just one back from the lead and well in contention.
Rounding off the top four is the 2013 Beko Classic Champion and 2014 Beko Classic Runner Up, Robert Coles, who matched Widegren and Heath’s 69s to take him to a four-under par total of 140.
In the Team Pro-Am competition the Beko UK Team stretched out their lead to five points over the field after a second consecutive thirteen under par 85 points. The team were joined by Challenge Tour Member, Adam Gee, for their second round and got off to a flying start with Gee eagling their first hole, setting them up for another excellent score.
Beko South Africa and Beko Poland head up the chasing pack in Tie-Second place.
A special mention also goes to Peter Gustafsson who holed out his second shot on the par-five fourth hole for an incredible albatross – the first of his career!
