Kevin Duncan setting pace in NE Alliance

Scratch Order of Merit points table

Cruden Bay tour professional Kevin Duncan, pictured, is setting the pace in the North-east Alliance Scratch Order of Merit, sponsored by the "Brimond Bistro," the clubhouse restaurant at Craibstone Golf Club.
Points are awarded every week and Kevin has amassed close on 3,000pt from the first eight meetings of the Alliance season.
Newmachar tour pro John Duff is in second place.
The only amateur in the current top 15 is Newmachar's Christopher Lamb in fifth place. 
 The "Brimmond Bistro" is putting up the same prize money/amateur vouchers for each of the three Order of Merit categories - Scratch and Handicap Class 1 and Class 2.
The winner of each category will receive £75, the runner-up £50 and the third place finisher £40, either in cash or amateur prize vouchers.
The Merit competitions will end with the second round of the NE Alliance championship at Craibstone GC on Wednesday, March 16.
+The current Class 1 and 2 Handicap Order of Merit points leaders will be displayed on this website on Friday evening.

Henderson top Scot by nine off pace in Spain

Neil Henderson (Renaissance) is sharing eighth place in the Spanish Evolve Pro Tour's Bonmont Open at Bonmont Golf Club, Tarragona after rounds of 76 and 73 for 149.
He is nine strokes behind the leader by four, Englishman Ben Stow who has had scores of 71 and 69 for four-under-par 140.
Royal Burgess amateur Malcolm Pennycott dropped back to 14th with an 83 for 159 and was overtaken by the third Scot in the small field, Paul McGhee who has scores 81 and 77 for 158 and 13th place.

PGA EuroPro Tour report and scores in Spain

GAVINS TAKES FOUR-SHOT LEAD

Victory at the PGA EuroProTour’s showpiece season-finale at Desert Springs, Almeria in Spain would see Gavins (Walton Driving Range) make an immediate return to the Challenge Tour, which he played last year having graduated from the EuroPro in 2013.
 That year he held a one-stroke lead after 36 holes of the Tour Championship, where his second-place finish saw him seal promotion to European golf’s second tier.

Aaron Rai (68, 68; DCD Group), Paul Howard (68, 68; Southport and Ainsdale), Sebastian Garcia Grout (68, 68; Tponiente Golf Mallorca) and Sam Connor (67, 69; Alsager Golf and Country Club) share second on eight under par. Robbie Busher’s second-round 65 took him from level par to sixth on seven under.

Rai, Howard and Connor currently sit inside the top six of the Race To Desert Springs Order of Merit but while Connor looks secure inside the crucial top five, Rai and Howard are battling it out to land a Challenge Tour card for 2016.

“I didn’t get much sleep last night,” said Gavins, who had felt unwell ahead of his unblemished second round. “I was just trying to get around, I didn’t come with any expectations of shooting under par; I was just trying to get around the course.

“I have been trying to take the pressure off myself by treating this as a warm up for stage two Qualifying School next week and not worrying about what I shoot has helped me today. I am looking forward to tomorrow now, it should be a good day.”

The Matchroom Sport Tour Championship is a 54-hole strokeplay event which concludes on Friday, October 30. A two-hour highlights package from the tournament will air on Sky Sports on Tuesday, November 10 with a season review show to broadcast the following week.
CAMERON CLICKETY CLICKS TO MOVE UP TO
 
JOINT 7th AT PGA EUROPRO CHAMPIONSHIP

Ellon's Ross Cameron (Saltire Energy), pictured above, took over as the leading Scot in the PGA EuroPro Tour Championship with a sizzling 66 in the second at Desert Springs, Almeria in Spain today (Thursday).
Cameron's six-shot improvement lifted him to joint 7th place on six-under 138, six behind the leader by four, Daniel Givens (England) (67-65).
Cameron birdied the second, third, sixth, seventh and eighth in an outward 33 which included a solitary bogey at the fourth. He parred his way in until birdieing the 16th and 18th.
Neil Fenwick (Dunbar) slashed 14 shots off his first-day score with a 65 to be sharing 32nd place on level par 144 with Jordan McColl (Kingsbarns) (70-74) and Lloyd Saltman (Archerfield) (69-75).
Paul Shields (Kirkhill) had a 70 for 145 and joint 36th place while Michael Stewart (Troon Welbeck) is joint 44th on 147 after a 73.

Van Zyl leads with 11-under 61 in Turkey
 
EUROPEAN TOUR COMMUNICATIONS
South African Jaco Van Zyl produced the lowest round of his European Tour career – a sublime 11 under par 61 – in the first round of the Turkish Airlines Open, where Rory McIlroy and Lee Westwood also made promising starts.
Van Zyl racked up nine birdies and an eagle at the Montgomerie Maxx Royal in Antalya, including five in his last six holes, which would have set a new course record had preferred lies not been in operation after heavy rain last week.
Westwood was his closest challenger, the Englishman firing an impressive eight under par 64 – his best round of the season – to lie second, while his compatriot Chris Wood is third thanks to a 66.
McIlroy, the current Race to Dubai leader, opened with a five under par 67 to join a group of seven players sharing fourth spot, picking up four shots on the way in after reaching the turn in one under.
The Turkish Airlines Open is the first of four lucrative events comprising the Race to Dubai’s Final Series. With eight million points on offer at each, heads to the WGC-HSBC Champions and the BMW Masters, both in Shanghai, before the season finale, the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai.

“I played really nicely, and honestly I thought four under par around here was a good score. I got it going early in the round and just kept it going. It was really good fun. I’ve had lower scores but not on a golf course of this calibre.

“I was sort of trying to find my rhythm a little bit for the first few holes and then I actually made a good par save on 18 which gave me some momentum going into the front nine. I hit a lot of quality shots on the front nine and gave myself a lot of looks and holed some putts. Overall, I’m pretty pleased about everything today. I said to JP after I holed the putt on three that it was probably the longest putt I've holed in about four months. So it was nice to see a few putts go in like that and it definitely gives me some confidence going into the next three days. I've won the Race to Dubai twice before and it’s always been a huge thrill, and Dubai has been a very good place for me throughout my career. It would be great to go to Dubai and win it again. It would be another great achievement to put on my CV.”

Piercy leads by with a 10-under 62 at CIMB Classic at Kuala Lumpur
 
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia -- Scott Piercy allied some crisp putting to solid tee-to-green play and shot a flawless 10-under 62 today to take a three-stroke lead after the first round of the US PGA Tour's CIMB Classic.
The American made 10 birdies at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club to pull away from Japan's Hideki Matsuyama, who had eight birdies and a bogey in his 65.
Piercy's 10-under score matched the tournament record set by Nick Watney, who had a 61 at the par-71 Mines Resort and Golf Club in 2012.
Jason Gore was tied for third on 66 with American compatriots Keegan Bradley and Charles Howell III plus Germany's Alex Cejka and Cameron Smith of Australia. Eight players shared eighth place on 67, including last year's runner up Kevin Na.
Two-time defending champion Ryan Moore was again in contention, tied for seventh with seven others on five-under 67.
Adam Scott was tied for 16th on 68 in a group of 10 players including Padraig Harrington and Scott Brown, who made up for an earlier double bogey by sinking a hole-in-one on the par-3 15th and winning a BMW sports car as reward.
Piercy's 10-under was his lowest round since a closing 61 at the Phoenix Open two years ago.
The Las Vegas native, who turns 37 next week, started with birdies on the first three holes and also finished well with birdies on 17 and 18.
Piercy began the new US PGA season with a tie for 25th at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, and blamed bad putting for disguising a game he otherwise felt "was in a good spot."
"I made the putts I didn't last week and got a little lucky as well," Piercy said.
One of the "lucky" holes was the par-4 13th, where his approach shot dropped 10 feet below the green, but he managed to chip in for birdie.
"It was good fortune, a good break and it was nice to see the ball go in," said Piercy, who has three US PGA Tour victories, including the Barbasol Championship in July.
"I only missed three or four greens today so if you got 14 chances, you're doing pretty well."
Matsuyama said he aimed to get plenty of rest ahead of another round Friday in the draining tropical heat.
"In this weather, you can't beat yourself too much. I'll practice a little bit and head back to the hotel," said the 23-year-old Japanese.
"I hit my driver really well today and that was the reason for my low score. This is my third time here and I love the course. Playing the last couple of years prepared me for that."
Former world No. 1 Scott was satisfied with his 68 and being in a good position to challenge for the lead in the coming days.
The Australian, now 16th in the world, had an eagle on the par-5 5th but also bogeys at 7 and 12.
"The greens are rolling so you could really make some putts and I should have done better but overall, I'm happy," Scott said.
"We have to hit good shots as there are some trick lies and you have to play solid. You need to play good shots to get a good score."
