Tomatin 54-hole pro-am scoreboard

Fenwick and Hutcheon shoot 65s at Nairn

Neil Fenwick (Dunbar) and Greig Hutcheon (Paul Lawrie Golf Centre) had the lowest scores - six-under-par 65s - at the Tomatin three-day programme opened at Nairn (par 71), Royal Dornoch (par 70) and Castle Stuart (par 72).
Fenwick and Hutcheon both had their first rounds at Nairn but as the players switch courses every day, it will be Wednesday before the overall scoreboard gives the true picture of who is winning the 54-hole event.
Probably for the first time in his golfing life, Hutcheon had THREE eagle 3s on his card, at  Nairn's seventh, 10th and 18th. Two bogeys cancelled out his two birdies so the eagles gave him his six-under-par flying start to the tournament.
Fenwick also had an eagle 3 at the 15th and a bag of seven birdies.  Three bogeys pulled him down to "only" six under par.
Also at Nairn, Welshman Simon Edwards was well in themix with a 66. He was six unde par for his last 12 holes.
Jason McCreadie had eight birdies, one double boggey and three bogeys in his 69 at Castle Stuart (par 72). He is one of five players sharing the lead at this venue.
Greg McBain (Paul Lawrie Golf Centre) had the best score at Royal Dornoch - a four-under-par 66.

David Joy to leave England Golf

David Joy, the Chief Executive of England Golf, is to leave the organisation at the end of this year to become the Chief Executive of British Canoeing.
He announced his resignation to the Board and to staff today and will take up his new appointment on 1 January 1, 2016.
England Golf Chairman Graham Yates said: “I must thank David Joy for his enthusiasm and support for England Golf and its aspirations. Significant progress has been achieved during his 2½ years in office, particularly with the launch of the Strategic Plan for England Golf, Raising Our Game.
“David will remain in office until December 31 and the company will continue ‘business as normal’ until a new appointment is made. Arrangements are being put in hand in this respect with immediate effect.”
David Joy joined England Golf in April 2013, following the merger of the former English Golf Union and English Women’s Golf Association. He brought with him over 25 years of management experience within national and local sports organisations, more than 12 of which have been as a Chief Executive.
During his tenure he has overseen the launch of the England Golf Strategic Plan, Raising Our Game, which calls on all who are involved in the sport to work together to create a brighter future for the game. It aims to create: more players; more club members; stronger clubs; winning golfers; outstanding championships; an improved image of the game; and excellent governance.

John Henry's top 10 finish on Alps Tour

John Henry, pictured left, achieved a top 10 finish in the latest Alps Tour event, the Open International de Marcilly at Golf de Marcilly, Orleans in France. The Clydebank and District pro earned 989 euros by finishing joint ninth with scores of 67, 68 and 73 for a five-under-par aggregate of 208 -six strokes behind the winner, Dutchman Darius Van Driel (66-65-71 for 202)

Dutchman Van Driel finally wins in France

Vandriel winwebNetherlands’ Darius Van Driel finally broke the curse and won his maiden Alps Tour trophy, thanks to a level par final round in the Open International de Marcilly.
With this win, he jumps on top of the Alps Tour ranking. Tied for second plac, a shot behind the winner, were  France’s Jean-Pierre Verselin and Damien Perrier.
Van Driel was the overnight leader with a two-stroke advantage over local hero, Alex Kaleka. The latter started with a birdie on the first hole and his playing partner dropped two shots in a row, at the  third and fourth holes. Van Driel struggled early in the round and Kaleka was in control.
At the turn, the two men were -10 and it seemed that once again, Van Driel couldn’t lift a trophy. During the last three weeks, he was each time in contention and finished 3rd, 2nd, 2nd.
But this time, the bad dream was for Kaleka. He had two awful holes as he made double bogey on the 12th and triple on the 13th. His hopes just blew up and Van Driel holed pars until the end to finally won his maiden win which earned him 5,800 euros.
France’s Damien Perrier, in the last group last Sunday, did a perfect come back with flawless 65, -6 to record his second runner-up place and his seventh top 5 of the season.
Josh Loughrey lost his leadership at the Alps Tour ranking despite a nice fourth place on 204 with rounds of 68, 69 and 67.
Fellow Englishman Andrew Cooley finished fifth on 205 with scores of 69, 67 and 69.
