Lloyd Saltman unlikely to get past Stage 1 of Q School at Roxburghe

The hopes of Lloyd Saltman, one of the most talented amateurs Scotland has ever produced, winning his way through to the European Tour look to be over for yet another year.
The Archerfield man is lying joint 69th in a field of 82 players at the Tour School Stage 1 72-hole tournament at the Roxburgh Hotel course, Kelso.
Saltman has shot rounds of 75 and 78 for 153 - nine over par.
Only the leading 18 and ties at the conclusion of 72 holes will advance to Stage 2 at four Spanish venues in October.
Mark Hillson is the best placed Scot at halfway with rounds of 69 and 68 for seven-under 137, two shots behind the Welsh leader Rhys Enoch (68-67).
Neil Fenwick (Dunbar) is lying joint fifth on 139 (68-71)

Memorable scoring continues in Paul Lawrie Men's Invitational

Razor sharp McKechnie lowers Deeside record

to 62 and leads by 3 with a round to go

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Another fantastic day of low scoring at the Paul Lawrie Men's Invitational saw a new Deeside course record of eight-under-par 62 set by Paul McKechnie (Braid Hills), pictured today by Cal Carson Golf Agency.

There were also three rounds of 63 - Jason McCreadie (Largs), Ross Kellett (Paul Lawrie Golf Centre) and Cameron Marr (Mussleburgh) - and 30 second rounds under the par of 70.
The cut to the leading 28 and ties fell at one-under-par 139 with 31 qualifiers for the final 18 holes. Good to see five amateurs beating the cut - young Sam Locke (Banchory), Jamie Savage (Cawder), Calum Fyfe (Cawder), Craig Ross (Kirkhill) and Scott Gibson (Southerness).
Glasgow-born and based McKechnie (38) says he has now broken 14 course records over the years.
"This is my two-year-old son Oscar's birthday today so I will dedicate this record round  to him," said Paul who has maintained the momentum that has seen him win his last three events at Elgin, Drumpellier and Skibo Castle.
"For some reason I felt really sharp today and the course is in such good condition, particularly the greens, that good scoring, not only by me, follows almost naturally."
McKechnie birdied the fifth, sixth, ninth, 11th, 13th, 14th, 16th and 18th, sinking putts of 30ft at the 16th and 8ft at the last.
Paul's 14-under-par tally of 126 gives him a three shot lead over Jason McCreadie (66-63) with Paul O'Hara (Clydeway Golf) in third place on 130 (66-64).
But the Braid Hills Golf Range player is not counting his chickens as far as the £8,000 first prize is concerned.
"I shall just go out and play the third round as it comes. I never believe in increasing  pressure on myself by saying I have to do this or that ... "
McCreadie, 48, a former Northern Open champion from Skelmorlie near Largs, had eight birdies and one bogey in his 63 and admitted it was his best round of the season so far.
"I've not been playing well this year for some reason. Missing too many greens and not getting up and down. Hopefully, this round will be my turning point."

More fantastic scoring in Paul Lawrie Invitational

More McKechnie magic - lowers Deeside

record to 8 under 62 to retain lead

The "slaughter" of the Deeside golf course in wind-free conditions continued  when Jason McCreadie (Largs) set an unofficial pro course record of seven-under-par 63.
Little over an hour later ovrernight leader Paul McKechnie (Braid Hills) lowered the record - definitely - to eight-under 62.
"My son Oscar is two years old today so I would like to dedicate this round to him," said Glasgow-born and bred Paul who has now broken 14 course records over the years.
The cut to the leading 28 players and ties came at one-under-par 139. There will be 31 qualifiers competing in Thursday's final round.

McCreadie was the first to raise the bar another notch after Paul McKechnie shot a 64 to lead it  two shots at the end of the first day of the Paul Lawrie Men's Invitational 54-hole tournament at Bieldside, a western suburb of Aberdeen.
McCreadie had eight birdies and one bogey in halves of 32 (four-under-par) and 31 (three under). With a 66 in the first round, Jason led the field - with overnight leader McKechnie still out on the course - for about an hour with an 11 under par of 129.
It is certainly Jason's best round of the year - "I have not been playing particularly well this season. Missing too many greens and not getting up and down. Hopefully, this round will be the turning point for me although it's a bit late in the season."
He birdied the third, fifth, sixth, eighth, 13th, 14th, 15th and 18th.
His only bogey came at the short 12th.
McCreadie, 45, from Skelmorlie near Largs in Ayrshire, said he drove the ball well and putted well on his way to his 63.
"The greens - the whole course, in fact - is in very good condition. The longest putt I holed was a 25-footer for a 3 at the eighth although the 10footer I holed at the 18th for a 63 seemed longer than that when I was lining it up.
"I've set a few course records at Tartan Tour events but, funnily enough, I never thought I would do it at Deeside. The whole course is soft because of the amount of rain we've had this year and that's why so many guys are shooting well under par.
"Normally, the Deeside course is much firmer and when that's the case if you miss the green, then your ball can bounce anywhere. But this week if you miss the green, you have a much better chance of getting up and down to save par."

Clark Clicks to Claim SGU Seniors Order of Merit

Ronnie Clark wins SGU Seniors' Order of

Merit for first time

 SGU NEWS RELEASE

Erskine’s Ronnie Clark has been crowned the SGU Seniors Order of Merit winner for 2015, topping the domestic rankings for the first time at over-50s level.

Building on his fourth place finish in last season’s standings, the 54-year-old stormed to an impressive 755 points during this campaign. That total was helped by three victories from just six starts – one of which came with a demo driver after his own club was unfortunately run over in a car park.

Clark began in style with victory at the North of Scotland event in Elgin in May, before sharing top spot at the Central Scotland Open at Glenbervie and then emerging victorious at the South of Scotland Championship at Dumfries & County.

Clark, commercial director of a construction company, admits he has been building up his golf in recent seasons as he looks ahead to being eligible for the over-55s circuit.

“During my time at senior level, I’ve won six out of the 11 events I’ve played in,” said Clark. “I’ve been building up my golf and I’d like to think I’ve played well this season.”

It was his victory at Elgin that proved the greatest highlight of his year, given the remarkable tale that unfolded.

“Winning up at Elgin with a replacement driver was a bit of a story,” added the Erskine and Glasgow Golf Club member. “Somebody ran over my driver in the car park, half an hour before my tee off time!

“The pro up there was kind enough to give me a demo driver of another make. I actually drove the ball pretty good with it, but I did get my old driver replaced.”

Clark beat Royal Troon’s Paul Moultrie into second place (713 points), with David Gardner from Broomieknowe, the 2012 Seniors Order of Merit champion, coming third on 597 points.
